If you've ever fried pork chops you know it takes a long while cooking them 2 or 3 at a time, especially if you're frying up a family pack.
The daily drudgery of loading and unloading the dishwasher and still having a ton of dishes that need to be run through the dishwasher and clutter every where, makes me feel like I'll never get the kitchen clean.
This evening I tried the reverse. I had all the side dishes cooking and while I was cooking the pork chops I started to straighten the pantry. I finished before the first round of chops were ready. I decided to check the frig for old food and wipe up any messy spots. The first round of chops were ready. I put on another round to cook. While they were cooking I cleaned the kitchen table. Hey, this is working pretty good I thought to myself. I continued cooking chops and cleaning any and everything I could find.
I put away a few clean dishes, filled my 7 day meds container, put away cooking oil, cleaners, threw away some trash, unloaded the cooler that still had drinks in it from a bonfire 5 weeks ago, wiped out the cooler and put it away in it's "home", wiped down the counter on the stove side of the kitchen, threw out left over chicken bones from last nights dinner, feed the kittys, an took a load of clothes out of the dryer.
When my oldest daugher stopped by to visit she noticed it looked "clean" in the kitchen, even though I still had dirty dishes.
Now, I'm going to go to the chat room and will use the 15 minute Challenge Train to fold and put away that load of laundry, unload and load the dishwasher and sweep the kitchen floor.
Ladies, that 15 minute challenge has really changed things for me. I love getting the praise and giving the praise for a job well done. I getting stuff done and it feels gooooood!!!!!!!!!

My DearHubby worked full-time in construction: until he was almost 70 years old!!!!!!!!!!!!! I used to make enormous 3-course-meals almost every night. He needed a LOT of food; he needed stuff for lunches. And so on. Well.....I learned that while I was cooking stuff, I could do all kinds of things in the kitchen. As I worked full time too until 5 years ago, I used to assume that DH would be home between 5-6 pm (though sometimes much later) and I would be home by 4:30. That gave me a GOOD HOUR. Wowowowow: I could do a LOT of extra cleaning things while 'stuff' cooked. For me: the biggest TREAT was getting most of the cooking stuff washed dried and put away BEFORE we even sat down to eat! thank you for posting the Pork Chop method of kitchen clean-up. I'm sure you have inspired someone today. And you gave me a great trip down memory lane (now that DH has retired, he does most of the cooking...........) xxoo

- This is very cool. I love this kind of creative thinking and usage of time. There is like Meme's "222 Rule" ... She noticed that it takes 2 minutes and 22 seconds to steep tea, and she tries to get stuff done during that time. She did stuff while waiting for Ramen to cook in the microwave. Your "pork chop method" is very much like one aspect of the "BDG method". BDG was the username of a member of our forums who passed away. She had a similar approach. She did stuff during small blocks of time. I use the BDG method every day. I liked her idea of, if you are going from one room to another, to get a drink or whatever, carry in whatever goes in that room.As you move from room to room, keep doing that and put stuff away. It just makes your time more valuable. Every day I constantly think of that and practice that. It really doesn't help ( for me anyway because I require big blocks of time to de-squalor)if you have major de-squaloring to do, but for me, it helps me maintain by constantly putting things where they should be.

I left the chat this evening with heavy eyes pooped from all the challenges I had done today. I thought I'd stop by and see if anyone had replied to post.
Once again, y'all are so encouraging. Lion I checked out the BDG sites you sent. Wow! I've only done that on a very small scale. After reading all the BDG post I went to the kitchen for some tea. I grabbed up some little things that needed to go, things I would have before just left for another day. On the way back to my bedroom I grabbed up some little things and took them to the bedroom. So easy! It is the little things that pile up and make a big messy pile. I used the restroom and remembered I had a HUGE container of those wipes under the bathroom counter. I got them out and wiped the seat and got another one and wiped the sink. They've been in there so long, I thought maybe they had dried up.
I think I need to fry up a whole chicken!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's exactly right Helen-"it's the little things that pile up and make a big messy pile". That's why the BDG method is SO great!! If you do it every day, it is not AS BAD to maintain. Granted, sometimes you are just too tired, or not feeling well, etc., but if you do it pretty much mechanically every day, it makes a BIG difference! It has really helped me A LOT!
