I am new to all this but one of my motivations for cleaning up is that I can't find things.
Right now I am missing a credit card, house keys, and a social security card. Haven't seen the keys in 2 years.
I do enjoy finding things that I forgot I had or that I bought and they sunk to the bottom of the pile.
What good things have you been happy to find while cleaning?

I've found a box full of things I'd been missing for a while.
I do have a list of things that I'm looking for, though. Anyone seen my pendant and timer?

My Social Security card was lost for. . . oh, ten or fifteen years, I'd say!
I finally found it several months ago. It was right where I had looked for it many, many times. It was in a divider section of an old wallet. HOWEVER, the problem was that it had adhered itself to the back of an outdated credit card!!!! Had I not turned the credit card over by chance, I'd never have found the Social Security card. (I'd not applied for a new card because I KNEW that it was in my house somewhere.)
I was all ready to put it into my current wallet so that I wouldn't lose it again when the word came out that because of identity theft, one never should do that. So, I didn't. Now, if only I could remember the *safe* place that I put it after finding it again . . . A-r-r-r-g-g-g-h-h-h!!!
Good luck at finding your missing items!!

When I invent a safe, logical place to put an important item, it is lost forever.
Still missing some art prints from when I moved 3 years ago. But I found a lot of things this year when unpacking some boxes. I was especially delighted to find my photos from college... when I unearthed a forgotten box from DH's closet!

shopgirl is right....when I invent a safe place it is gone forever....I did that with a dog collar that I wanted to keep safe from the shredder dog....then of course he shredded his own collar and I could not find the one I invented the safe place for....until I bought a new collar today....then on arriving home from Petsmart I found the other collar...right where I put it before...on top of the entertainment center...about six feet off ground and out of eyesite of the dog and me of course!

My parents gave me an opal and diamond ring when I graduated high school. I wore it often and kept in in my jewelry box in it's gift case. It was there for about 30 years. Then one day I looked and it was gone. Turned the house upside down looking for it. I finally decided a babysitter must have gone snooping and took it. A perfect gift-complete with a box. Never confronted her, just moved on. Then one day last summer I pulled a box of clutter out of a closet. Found many interesting things, including my opal ring& box. I called my Mom and told her the whole story. I had been too ashamed to tell her it was missing.

just today while cleaning upstairs I found:
*one lottery ticket: DearHubby has been looking for this for a while....(put by work satchel: will check on Tuesday or something) *2 panties in gym bag: clean, but they don't belong there........(to dresser drawer) *a zillion dead pens in night-table drawer (to trash)
I know a couple who kept a piggy bank just for CASH they found in their occasional clean-ups: then they had a big treat..........

Last winter I lost my last set of car keys... I had to go to the dealer to get a new car key. When March came and the snow melted, there they were in the driveway- right in front of where I park! They probably fell into the snow while I was replacing window washer.

A word to the wise- get rid of your lousy purses- you didn't use them for some reason or another-- if you are like me you would start to use them and then change back to one that worked because they -- opened too easily- didn't hang on your arm right- were too small- were too large and things got lost- had stains on them that embarrased you -etc- BUT maybe they cost a lot- or were leather and designer bags- were at one point a favorite- etc etc etc.
I used one such bad this last week and dropped it- strap didn't fit on shoulder right and didn't stay closed real good but was beautiful. Had to pay more attention to carrying it than i should have had to. Christmas Eve was doing last minute shopping at Walmart-=and in putting all the bags into my car at night- my wallet fell out in the parking lot- They called this morning to tell me someone turned it in. I called all credit cards and the bank- and was gratefull someone turned it in but so much other stuff in the wallet that someone could do identity theft with- even if they turned it in- not to mention- reciepts and business cards and other important stuff i keep in my wallet(that should not be there)
I keep finding these old nifty bags and purses and not rembering exaclty why I haven't used them- if you find one stuffed away- think of why it is stuffed away and toss it if you rember why it is a dud. Use it once if you can't remember and it will come to you.
Lots of times my old bags are still filled with important like things- makeup or reciepts or whatever that I have not cleaned out- and that is why I have kept them- they are perfectly good- and I have to change how I hanlde them--but often times- they are just not right.
same iwth blets and shoes and hats, wallets, old jewelry and seemlinglygood underwear- jeans that fit but have zippers tha won't stay up after you wear them for an hour-- all stashed in unlikey places. I am finding that I do just as well with a few things that work than a bunch of things that don't but have a hard time sorting them out when they are all stuffed away- all over the place.I cannot remember what is what -if I don't do something with them right away as soon as I make the discovery. Whicvh i have not yet learned to do consistently- but am going to start doing in a serious way.. This also inclides many cosmetic items-. That hairspray or other bottle that is full but the spray thingy won't wrok- body cream that stinks or is icky but is there in case I run out of good stuff- and deaodorant that won't roll up right. And pens and lighters that have quite working that I just stuff back into the drawer. The biggest drawback- besides having too much STUFF- is that I can't find the things I need- that WORK because of the defunct crap and waste time using the defunct stuff instead of the good stuff. And using old mouse that makes you hair sticky and then tyring to go over it with t the stuff that does-- it don't work- so you have to start over.
Trying to find the treasures in our trash is a big problem-= at least for me. I also find that being afraid I won't be able to afford to get anything else when I run out of the good stuff- and will need to somehow make the crap stuff work- enters into it. This may be true- but probably not. If I took better care of the good stuff- it would last longer and I am probably going to find I can do as well or better with less. Just an idea. Hope my wallet comes back with all the stuff in it. Need to go through it. I tossed the purse today into the trash instead of donating it. No one should buy it at a thrift store and have the same problem. It is a really beautiful purse and once was a favorite. Thanks for the thread! Bizzy

About a month ago, I found a bunch of copies (5 or 7, can't remember) of keys to my van. I had copies made because we kept losing the keys or misplacing them or weren't working well... and every time I locked my key in the car... very difficult for someone to help me out if they couldn't find a key to my car. I had totally forgotten that I even had the copies made. They had been in a box of other stuff since last summer when I had them made. cd BTW, welcome to the website!

I finally cleaned off the stacks of stuff on top of my china hutch today. I had assumed they were empty boxes. Imagine my shock when I found that not only did they contain things, but they contained nice, brand new things that I didn't even realize I owned A gorgeous red pillar candle holder and a stainless steel roaster that matches my other cookwear. Both would have been nice to have for holiday dinners, but I guess there is always Easter I also found a small bag of essential oils that I have searched everywhere for the last month and I cannot explain how they ended up on top of the cabinet. My guess is that a child threw them and got a lucky shot.

I found a three year old Social Security check from the month before my mother died. Does anyone know if that's cashable if I ask for a duplicate? She was entitled to it and I sure could use it.
