"If you haven't failed, you aren't trying hard enough."
reminding me of à twelve-step saying:
"If you like everyone you've met in AA, you're not going to enough meetings."
I hereby solicit tales of failure gone right -- the lost job, opportunity, boyfriend, life prospect, home -- whatever -- that left you better than it found you.
(I was offered à full-time job, which I didn't take. It was on the 103rd floor. Of the World Trade Center.)

Almost got married right after high school...now he's on drugs, has been to jail, cheats on his current wife, has children all over the place, doesn't work and lives in his mom's basement. I'm thinkin' I dodged a bullet there...

Been thinking about this a couple of days. I was fired many years ago, MUCH sobbing, etc for about 4 hours, then I remembered I HATED the job. It was being a caretaker (of all things!) In an apartment complex that was constantly being trashed. I was supposed to dust cobwebs, 3 floors up, HOW? ? Vacume with a broken vacume cleaner. 6 months pregnant, blah blah, you get the picture. All this for less than 2 bucks an hour. New caretaker happened to be the managers good friend who'd just lost her job. hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm I learned that some very black looking clouds DO have silver linings.

thanks for bumping 'cos i would have missed this hopehope, and i cried when i read about your untaken job. will be back later. mind blank at the moment.
however this thread reminds me of one of my favourite theories of my very own.... "you are exactly where you are meant to be". i believe this is the case no matter what difficulties we find ourselves in, there is always a reason for it and a benefit to it.

I agree. When my daughter was killed (through negligent homicide) and I survived, I wondered what that reason was...sometimes it is revealed to me...sometimes not...the journey continues...

I am twice divorced.
I am SO glad that marriage #1 ended, and fairly quickly. It was a mistake from the word "go".
Divorce #2? Still working on making peace with it.

There were a couple of reasons for not taking that job. One was that on the hundred and third floor, the building swayed. You could feel it. It was supposed to -- part of the design, safety, etc. But it gave me the willies...
