Sigh. Somewhere between 2005 and now, I lost my Social Security Card. And believe me I have lookedI had to go down and wait for 2 hours to apply for a new one. (It was cold, but not all bad -- nice people in line. And the people in the SSC office were very efficient, so once I got in, I was out quick.) --- I've been doing a bit more baking lately, and purchased a springform pan, but in order to make a (vegan) cheesecake, I really did need a hand held mixer and ... that meant purging 2 drawers in the kitchen so that I would have a place to put the mixer when I got it. I threw away about 1/2 of it as crap, and the rest got consolidated into the other drawer or put in a box to get taken to where it really belongs. My husband's idea of "cleaning" is to take stuff and tuck it out of sight. I found things that I have been looking for for years and thought were lost forever. A lot of it was stuff from the 2001 Comic Con and ... I was overwhelmed with emotion to find it again. I thought it had been thrown away. 2001 was a very bad year for me, and Comic Con had been the one big bright spot in it. These small keepsakes (my con-badge, a sketchbook, an illustrated card signed by a creator who has since died, a few pins) meant the world to me. Cleaning and purging can be emotionally draining, but sometimes, it can bring unexpected joy. (And yes, I immediately put everything where it belongs.)

Awesome! I will say one interesting thing about my experiences in squalor/hoarding was that there were times when it was like Christmas.

That sounds like more than a "small update". You accomplished a lot. Getting the replacement ss card would be huge for me. I HATE doing that kind of stuff. So for that! Clearing out your kitchen clutter is also a biggie. 2 drawers done! Another for you! I hope you enjoyed your cheesecake, you deserved it for a job well done.

kadymae, you are a person to be envied because you are seeing the beauty inherent in everything if we are only able to look. I hope the vegan cheesecake turned out well. It sounds like you have experience with your recipe. The only time we tried a vegan cheesecake it formed a scummy puddle on top as it cooled . We blotted the top and it tasted okay, but it certainly wasn't company fare.

It was delicious and didn't form a puddle on top, but it did crack a wee bit.

I am so-o glad you found your treasures. Just in case you ever lose your social security card again, you can order one online and it takes about 10 days, usually less, to arrive. Wonder if I should order a spare .....

I just saw the Oprah show about veganism and wouldn't you know I just stocked the freezer from a meat sale - any way - I tried it before and I am thinking of trying to go vegetarian again - at least gradually cutting back and maybe this time I will be able to stick to it. I KNOW it is healthier and I know I do feel guilt when I eat meat. It does take alot of discipline and I admire anyone who can stick to it.
