I had a rather interesting thing happen today. It may only seem humorous to me because I have a cold and I'm not too clear headed. My niece stopped by with her 6 year old boy and she was eager to show me her new snazzy cell phone that has a nifty little camera on it as well as drop off some movies and a belated Christmas present. I felt good because the living room was nice, my office was decent, even the dishes were done and the bathroom was fine -- even my bedroom was tidy and bed made. The front bedroom was excellent since I just finished a few days ago in there. Which leads me to what happened. My nephew decided he wanted to take a picture of my cat. We gave him permission to do so just told him not to get too close. He wandered about giggling and then came back to show his mom the picture he took. She said "what the heck is that?" -- and he replied "that room over there". He had given up on the cats and instead photographed my DHs office room which is currently still stuffed with furniture, boxes and stuff. It has been worse but it was not pretty. I guess 6 year old's are magnets for the most horrid room. My niece deleted the picture and admonished him -- told him "only the cat" and he tried again -- this time getting my cat. I don't feel horrible because really the house is so much better than it used to be. But yet ................ that picture was B-A-D. Yikes. I could be feverish. My husband keeps saying I'm not making a lot of sense because I thought it was funny. For sure if it was my office it might not seem so funny. He is never embarrassed by his stuff to my knowledge so it wasn't a case where I was worried about his feelings. It just struck me silly because of all the rooms in the house that was the one that got photographed.

I know how kids are. They are drawn to the worst room in the house, anything with a door shut fascinaes them. nd the younger they are the worse they are. y cousin who is around 70 babysits her 2 year old grandson. When that kid comes over, he runs around the house making messes. He heads for her back room, off the kitchen, which is used for storage and has her laundry in it. She chases him away from there, then he heads for the fireplace (not currently in use) and starts pulling on the logs stacked next to it. . Pulls one out and starts an avalanche. My cousin has a ton of energy for her age. Keeps house pretty darn well, has a garden, babysits a 2YO and does lots of needlework. Chris, don't worry that someone took photos of your worst room. It's just one of Murphy's Laws.

Of course kids are magnetically drawn to the one thing we want them to leave alone, and I don't blame you for thinking this is funny.
Also, don't worry about how bad the room was. Except for the most hyperorganized, most people have one room they tend to not want others to see, or at least a closet or two or a garage they don't want to open in front of company.

I think it's wonderful that your house is plenty clean enough for you to see the humor in this! It's a great story :-) Ah, the unanticipated consequences of the age of technology!

I think it truly was a sign that our mess and hoarding is getting better. And in defense of my husbands messy office -- as soon as we're able to get the extra desk in there that I am going to sell -- out -- then it will be easier to get around and pick up. It has that warehouse kind of stacked look now mainly because of having 3 desks in a tiny maybe 8x10' room. Plus an easy chair which may go to his sisters and a hope chest that well I don't want anymore but he can't part with because he likes it. Kids are something else though . I'm glad I could laugh about it. It has not been that long since I would have been horrified and there were more rooms than one that were doom rooms.

Oooo my goodness - I have been going through some papers, mixed in are photos - I found several of my cats and was STUNNED at the mess shown in the background! !! I did not even think of that when taking the photos - and these were not digital pics - I am shocked I sent them off for processing! !! I am wondering if the people who processed them were like CHECK OUT THIS REALLY INCREDIBLY MESSY HOME.

It's just so great that we now can do digital photography and not have an audience. Just imagine all our before/after shots back in the day of regular film processing .
