Working on DS's room - took the big plunge yesterday. Felt good about it - but today I plummeted. There is SOOOOOO much to do - I've been working hard, and when I felt that anxiety/panic creeping in, I'd just stop and admire his closet. It is now a useable WALK-IN closet! Hasn't been that way in heaven only knows how long. Looking at yesterday's progress helped - initially - but it can only do so much. The thing is - with the closet stuff, I did one of the following: * put it in it's real home * threw it away * organized it in the closet. It was a self-contained area. Smallish - compared to an entire LARGE bedroom. I'm struggling - I find myself at this pile, then on to that one, then oh, yeah - I need to do something with this pile. Before I knew it, I was sitting there just staring at all of it, wondering whatever possessed me to think I could get through this by the weekend. I have asthma. I attacked the dust bunnies in there yesterday, and start spot vacumming as I went. The dust bunnies are angry and they are taking revenge on my asthma. Stupid dust-bunnies

Dang those dust bunnies!!! Well I'm sorry to hear about your asthma acting up that's not good! I'm kinda in the same boat myself. I really want to get in my son's room and get it cleaned up this weekend. But looking at all that mess in there is really daunting. So I will do what everyone suggests and just do one small area at a time. Perhaps his desk. When that is clean, I will move on to his tv stand. Later still, I will clean the area in front of his closet so I can actually get to his closet! As these small areas become clean they will slowly merge into one clean bedroom. The only piles I will worry about are piles of garbage and laundry. Those will be taken out of his room as needed. The rest will be put into boxes or plastic bags until I have clean areas to put everything away. This is my game plan and I'm sticking to it! I know you can do this too Ms.Choc-o-lot!!! You've done so much already!!! There are alot of people here who will cheer you on!!!

I got a phone call that interrupted my cleaning spree. When I went back into 'the' room - it wasn't nearly as bad as I was thinking - a LONG way to go, but I am seeing major progress. I get rid of the recliner (heaped with clean clothes for the time being) and the dresser - we will deliver those tomorrow. Of the six drawers in the dresser - I have five of them empty and new homes for the junk - primarily the trash can. The top of the dresser is semi-manageable. Mainly - I just need to organize/sort/purge/re-home. I don't have many things in my house as it stands right now, that have an assigned area. That is the LARGEST problem I am facing. Thanks for the cheers - I love the smileys - especially the one you used for the dust bunnies. I am an animal lover - but dang - those dust-bunnies MUST go! I also ran across something embarrassing - in the dresser - a ton of mouse droppings. I shouldn't be surprised - when you live with things piled up in over half your house, and you live out in the middle of a pasture - it just goes to reason that there are plenty of places for the nasty vermin to live. Does the presence of their droppings in my Level 2 house make me actually at a level 3 instead? Geesh - this isn't good - I'm going backwards

For what it's worth - this dresser is an extra one - and so it has been filled partially with just stuff. Some of the drawers were 90% empty - which is why I am getting rid of it.
Our laundry situation has been so bad for so long, that we basically wash as we need.

Congratulations on how much you've done. Also, good job recognizing that fact! We tend to be to hard on ourselves, and not see what we *have* done. Piles are mean suckers, and usually best conquered one at a time. Otherwise it feels like they are ganging up on you. As for laundry, could you commit to doing one extra load a day until the clothes are done? Sort out what you don't need or use any more either straight from the pile if it is clean or as it comes from the dryer if it was dirty. Put it straight into a bag and get it to a local charity. Every time you start to feel overwhelmed, take a break. As you found out when you were interrupted, walking away for a few minutes and coming back gives you a new perspective, so walk away on purpose at fixed intervals to do something nice for yourself. You are working hard and you deserve to do that. You are doing awesome.

Of course you can get through this. I know from firsthand experience that dust bunnies and asthma don't mix. Do take care of yourself and take breaks when your body tells you to.

Does the presence of their droppings in my Level 2 house make me actually at a level 3 instead? Geesh - this isn't good - I'm going backwards No, sneaky little mice do not count as level 3 as far as I am concerned. We all get a poopy little mouse in the house from time to time. (But they do not last long with my cat Amanda on the prowl, bwah ha ha!!) You are doing really, really well. Do not be hard on yourself!

Thanks girls - I have made a lot of progress today - not as much as I had wanted - which was to be D.O.N.E - but I knew realistically that wouldn't happen. Maybe tomorrow. maybe. I have the extra recliner and the dresser loaded up to be delivered tomorrow! YIPPEE! And guess what. Go 'head. Guess. Guess what I did with all the clean clothes piled up in that recliner. YEP! I put them away - instead of just piling them somewhere else. VICTORY over the laundry pile! Now, if I could just get ahead with the dust bunnies

You're doing FAB!!!! Keep going, I know you can make it with this room!!! And when you're done, I'll be totally in awe and inspired to do the same in MY bedroom, which is sort of in-the-middle-of-the-process at the moment and waiting for me to get motivated and finish it!

Thanks girls - I have made a lot of progress today - not as much as I had wanted - which was to be D.O.N.E - but I knew realistically that wouldn't happen. Maybe tomorrow. maybe. It's okay! In fact, it's great! You've gotten so much done! Dust bunnies and asthma sucks. Keep at it and they'll go away There will be no "maybe". You'll finish this. I think a lot of us have a bad habit of really setting unrealistic expectations. I'm sitting in my bedroom right now and I was SURE I'd be able to clear 3 years of clutter in a day. Ha! No. But I did get a significant chunk done and when I'm done checking the board, I'll go back and get some more done. I will finish this. You will finish yours too. It's going to take time to get there. We need to remember that. Give yourself a hug...you're doing great!

I'm sitting in my bedroom right now and I was SURE I'd be able to clear 3 years of clutter in a day. Ha!
Seeing YOU type that out, makes me giggle - because I recognize just how non-feasible it really is. WHY oh WHY can I not see the same in myself? I'm so excited about the room - it is really coming together - I still have a bit of work - so I am going to get off line now, and go work on it - I'm fighting the urge to take a nap - but I don't want to be up at 3:00 am like I was last night/this morning. Thanks for the cheers - it REALLY DOES help!
