So as many of you know, I was on vacation for approximately a month. I returned on Wednesday only to find that my Air Conditioner quit blowing cold air and the apartment was incredibly stuffy and at least a level 1.5. I did a power clean and brought it down to a level 0.5 and at least presentable for a repair guy. I also bought 2 standing fans to help direct airflow until the AC could be fixed. I also purchased frozen italian ices and Minute maid juice frozen thingys to cool myself down with while I waited. (this is important later)
The repair guy came on Thursday and replaced a part in the outside part of my AC unit, the unit now functions and cools nicely. And the guy didn't even have to come inside. However... I guess since one thing broke, other things have to break too.... I notice my frozen juice pops arent staying frozen, and now my meat is starting to thaw as well... oh CRAP!
Walked into the Landlords office today and explained about the refrigerator and freezer unit not doing ITS job. They sent a repair guy #2. Repair guy #2 actually came in and evaluated the refrigerator and concluded the compressor was not doing its job right anymore. He tells me he's going to call my Landlord and tell them. I call Landlord to follow up, Landlord hadn't recieved a call, and in the meantime, my food is about to go bad. One hr later I get a phonecall... this time....
Delivery guys with a BRAND NEW refrigerator. Seriously just out of the box, still with the foam in it and everything!! I power emptied my fridge, saving and tossing what I needed to. Then I helped move my couches to maneuver the fridge in and discovered a small plate (OOPS) underneath one of the couches.
Finally after all said and done, brand new fridge, AC is working, and next to tackle the bathroom which needs some repair!!!! Can't believe I was able to let repair guys and delivery guys inside my apartment! Additionally, I have 2 cats, which I'm technically not supposed to have in this apartment, but I never signed a lease agreement or a copy of the rules, so legally the Landlord has no right to press eviction. My biggest fear in all of this is that repair/delivery guys are gonna care that I have animals in this apartment and that they're gonna take action and tell the Landlord. In the 4 yrs I've been here, I recieved one notice from the Landlord not even addressed to me, but to the apartment downstairs, to get rid of the cats. The apartment downstairs put it on my door thinking it was meant for me, and that gave me a sufficient scare at my worst squalor period. Anyhoo, I'm rambling now.

Congratulations on your progress and WTG with taking care of yourself and getting those repairs and replacements; you're worth it! Great job on the maintenance too!

Great news re having a place that's decent enough for the repair guys to show up.
Hopefully, they didn't notice or, if they did, notice they don't care enough to report you.
Its awesome having stuff working, right?

Mostly, I figured out, they dont care. They get paid to evaluate the fridge, fix the air conditioner, etc... not evaluate the state of my apartment. I figured as long as there was no smell, and trash was well contained, they didnt need to know what my other rooms looked like. my office right now is a level 1.5, my bedroom is a level 1 - i've got laundry in my bedroom that needs evaluating, and i temporarily stored trash bags in my office. Total count: 12.. they will be progressing to the dumpster over the next 3 days.

Wonderful, Phoebes! I'm so glad that you were able to figure out that the freezer wasn't working! And a new one! Woo hoo!
It amazes me sometimes, how much easier life is once most of the squalor is conquered. When you can regain a decently clean space quick enough to have repair workers in! Enjoy your AC and new fridge/freezer!
