Hi, Gang A couple of things.... I was all gung ho to vacuum my living room -- which hadn't been done for months. I dragged out my newly reconditioned vacuum (it had totally died in the process of trying to vacuum up something or other). I started out doing a very thorough job of vacuuming and got about 3 square feet done and I got caught in a tight corner and in the process of trying to vacuum my way out, the vacuum tipped over. The little pedal you step on to move the vacuum from the upright position to the vacuuming position snapped off and the falling vacuum tore skin off my big toe. And the vacuum was locked into the stand-up position, so I couldn't use it. So much for my attempt to step out of squalor! ha ha Anyway, I took it into the vacuum repair shop -- the very next day! I was worried about what it would cost to fix it as I'm already struggling to get to payday, but the nice man fixed it for me and didn't charge me anything. I brought it back home and very uncharacteristically brought it in from the car on my first trip into the house (much more like me to leave it on the back seat for days or weeks). (Everything in this paragraph wouldn't have happened before I joined the Squalor Survivors community and become more aware of my thoughts and actions.) So, I've given myself three challenges for the weekend: 1) Finish vacuuming the living room (note to self: wear shoes); 2) mop the kitchen floor, which literally probably hasn't been done in a year. Luckily it's an apartment and the entire kitchen floor is about 6 feet square, and 3) clean ONE thing in the bathroom. Every weekend I'm going to clean the bathroom, and I never "get to it," so this weekend I'm just going to clean one thing in there. I think I can, I think I can, I think I can. Laura

Thanks, Courageously_Lion, for the link to the thread about cleaning floors. Funny (and reassuring!).
Well, it'll have to be tomorrow, because I did the fun stuff today....dog park and library!
It's supposed to be at least 100 degrees tomorrow in Denver (but it's a dry heat...har), so I'll crank the A/C early and get going before heat prostration takes its toll.
Thank you all, as ever. I'll "fess up" how much I actually get done!

Vacuum cleaner mishaps! I once caught my hair in my vacuum cleaner while bending forward to pick something up that was in the way. I had to reach up and backward to turn it off while it was sucking my hair and rolling it up in the beater bar. It sounds so comical now, but at the time it was instantaneously alarming.
I hope your toe is okay.
That's great about the repair. I also had the same good fortune the last time I brought mine in for repair. Completely free. I was really surprised, but so pleased that I did bring it in right away (to be repaired, as well as inside from my car.)
So much progress! Congratulations.
I remember reading somewhere that some people mop their kitchens daily. I don't know if I'll ever do that in my own home. We do it at the restaurant, but there's a lot more traffic there. I suppose I may have mopped daily back when we had dogs and rainy days and a muddy back yard and my boys were quite young and I wasn't yet struggling with the housekeeping-challenged side of my nature that later developed. But that is a very long time ago, and I cannot say for sure.
