Moggy, Spitty is awesome! And don't you love that cat expression that can either be interpreted as "Human, you are annoying me" or "Another photo for my adoring fans? Well, if you must. . ." Between the apartment and the barn (my roommate's parents have horses), we have a virtual convention of cats, a furry feline horde of cat con artists that have convinced us to coddle and spoil them and cater to their every whim. (We all know the saying, right? "Dogs have masters, cats have support staff." )

Yes, Spitty **is** awesome....awesomely aloof, awesomely self-sufficient, awesomely disdainful of me. I slavishly feed and care for him. In return, he allows himself to be petted occasionally **IF** he is in the mood.
If he is not, he doesn't expend the energy to bite, hiss or scratch. He just sighs deeply and walks away.
He **is** handsome, though :-) So at least he's pleasant to look at.

We currently have 1 pomeranian, and daughter has a hamster. Up until a few months ago we also had 15 chickens.

We have 6 inside cats, 1 outside cat and 2 cockatoos (parrots). In a community with a limit of 2 cats per house.
Five of the inside cats were once feral, so they all jump behind the couch and hide without making any sound until whoever is here leaves. The visitor only sees our one calico cat. Smart cats!

I used to have (and yes, they were mine, not the whole family's) at various times: 36 birds, 8 dogs, 2 cats, and 1 turtle. Only the 2 little frogs are here now. I sold the birds, let the turtle go in a pond, and all of my furbabies passed away over the years, except 2 of my dogs, Shadow and Baby Dog, who jumped the fence and whom I never saw again.
This house was in deadly 3rd degree when I had all the dogs. With no animals, and after the cleanup, we're at 2nd.

MiSC- wowza that's a lot of feathered friends, must have been quite a sight! I would have loved to hear them chirping.
sorry to read about your Baby Dog.. my dogs have gotten out of our fenced in yard on occasion, it is the worst feeling ever.

Do critters that have taken up residence in the house count? If so, I have a family of 4 squirrels living in my basement, 2 chipmunks and a mole. I also have a big friendly 120 lb rotty lab mix that is my best friend! I call her my pumpkiny bubble nuggets.

We had three cats until recently. My son seems to have developed asthma and the cats were not very compatible. So, we found them new homes, with the promise that after we move this year the kids can have hermit crabs.

Oh, you Spitty! You ARE handsome!! I absolutely adore green eyed black cats. Used to have a housefull of them. Now I only have one mutt Russell. She looks and acts like a full blood Jack Russell but she is a smallish mid size dog and not a small dog. She is incredibly intelligent. 'Course we all feel that way about our pets and children.

Just one, my hound dog named Bennett. He's a basset hound/beagle/blue tic hound mix. Possibly the *** dog on earth, but also the sweetest and snugliest.

Hi Everyone!
I got the impression very early on that not only was this a site for Messies but for pet lovers too. This made me feel even more at home coz apparently I am not "normal" as I have so many pets.
My pet population used to go up and down like a yoyo due to working with animals and I was forever taking in unwanted, injured, abused and lost pets. Now that I don't work in clinic any more and due to the passing away from old age recently of my 2 mice, 3 rats, my Indian Ringneck and my beautiful Molly-Girl Burmese cat, my little family now consists of:
Ezekiel - Alaskan Malamute Gus - Great Dane X Bull Arab Sebastian - Samoyed Madeline Rose aka Midgee McDougall - cheeky cat Alexander Pushkin - sooky boy cat Lucy Lola Lempicka - flighty cat Samantha Silverears - snotty bum cat Marguerite - King Parrot
That is my little family and I made the decision not to take in any more animals a little while ago. I am finding it much easier to cope and to enjoy my pets now.
I also have some horses but they live with my mum so they are part of her family! I do love visiting them though.
Thanks for the great question Mafixit!

PS - This is for Molly the Old Brown Cat
Molly I am so sorry I wasn't there when you passed away. I will never forgive myself and I still get so sad when I think about you. You were my dearest baby because you were the oldest and I thought you would be around forever. I hope I see you again one day because there is a big hole in my heart exactly your shape and size, baby girl. I miss you so much and I hope you are happy and healthy and young again.
