Hoo boy, do I like to collect things. Here is a list of the main things I collect:
*Comic books (I don't buy many these days, but I have about 25,000 I guess. Would love to get rid of most of them, but just getting them organized enough to sell them would be very time consuming)
*Original comic art (the most valuable stuff I own...have original comic strip art dating back almost 100 years old)
*Vintage horror & sci-fi movie posters, mostly from the 1950s & 60's, & other monster movie memorabilia (photos, statues, etc)
*Vintage lunchboxes (only collected these for about a year, but I have about 75 or so)
*Guitars and amplifiers, and other musical gear
*Books (mostly on comics, art, movies, and music)...I have way too many!
*CDs (probably between 1500-2000 or so...in the process of getting rid of most my old vinyl records)
*DVDs (probably around 700-800...collecting these has pretty much replaced comic books for me these days...bought another 12 this weekend)
*Tiki and Day of the Dead stuff
*Dinosaur fossils: teeth and eggshell fragments (started collecting these last fall, this is the area of collecting I'm most interested in at the moment)
*Also have started collecting insects & arachnids encased in lucite, and geological specimens (just got a beautiful big chunk of an amethyst crystal geode last week)
Planning on purging some books and dvds soon, and maybe trading in some guitars to make more room too. I'm trying to quit collecting so much stuff and start saving more for retirement, but old habits die hard! I definitely need to downsize some, its a lot easier to keep sane when you can keep track of all of your stuff.
P.S. I forgot to mention that the one thing I actually 'hoard' is art supplies. I definitely need to get rid of a lot of them. I used to work in an art supply store 25 years ago and I STILL have old magic marker sets from back then that have long since dried up!
I'm a commercial artist and every once in a while though I'll dig up something that will really come in handy. when I am trying to finish up a project at the last minute, in the middle of the night when all the stores are closed.

Miss MiSC-- I also collect glass Christmas ornaments, not the expensive Radko ones, but the figurals and old-fashioned ones made in Europe. Some new, some old. No "Made in China" ones. I have many more ornaments than will fit on my 4-foot tree, so I decorate differently each year. One year it was all Bells, Balls and Birds. Another year it was all Santas and Snowmen. Another year it was Churches, Critters and Children. Last year it was a mix of all different figurals, but not everything went on the tree. It's fun to leave some of them packed up and rotate the ornaments, select which ones go on display each year! This may be an option for you to consider, rather than buying a bigger tree.

No bigger tree?? But... but... but... Mooooooooooooom! I WANT a bigger tree!! I like your idea, but I don't have a lot of any one thing. The only common denominator is that 99% of them are glass. I've had some heartbreaking losses, but that's the nature of the beast I've chosen to tame, you know? It's really kind of like I'm challenging myself to not screw up, and to box and store these things with proper care. To be totally honest, a smaller tree would hold about half of them. The Polonaise and Radko pieces, as well as the true mercury glass ones, are just too darned heavy and/or big to put on a smaller tree. Those Three Little Pigs and the Wolf you see on the page are about 6 or 7 inches tall. I think the Evil Queen from "Snow White" is closer to 9 inches. I don't just need a bigger tree. I need a certain kind of tree. I think it's the fir that I'm looking for. Lots of strong, thin branches so the ornaments can hang down, not sit on top of the branches of a cheaper tree. I think it's a Douglas Fir that I'm wanting, but it might be a Noble Fir. I'm not picky or anything, am I? I collect equine art in bronze, porcelain, and cast resin. They are mostly in the 9"x12" range. I really should get some photos of them. I'm so in love with the last one pictured. Is he a dapple?

I collected stamps when I was a kid and still have them all.
spoons - both very old & valuable and cheap souvenir ones from places I visit. Fortunately I don't travel much.
old fountain pens. I only have a few and would like to make a shadow box and hang them on the wall.
I have a collection of small reproduction bottles that was given to me. I want to get or make a knick knack shelf for them. Plus a couple of old inkwells
keychains - my kids started this one for me.
postcards

I had some way when that are worth thousands now but they're long gone. Sold, or traded for comic art. My comic art is pretty valuable though, and is going up in value all the time. I don't want to part with it (especially the good stuff), but I know eventually that I'll have to sell it - hopefully I can hold off doing that until I retire in 20 years or so. I just hope that the economy and the collectors' market doesn't collapse before then!

where do you all PUT this stuff? ? I have such a small apartment there is no room. if I could getbuilt in bookshlves it would be a different story (high ceilings!) I collect stuff I find. weathered wooden things, like old windows, wooden crates etc. used to collect various types of books, especialyl childrens, but am paring down. Am not good at caring for stuff, so should not keep it. most of my collections date back to childhood (my old toys).

Miss MiSC-- That is one beautiful tree you've got your eye on! Great sale price, too. And you've got the space for a big tree at your house. (My ornaments are all tiny, my tree is even tinier, and my apartment is the tiniest of all.) Lucky girl, go for it!
Miss Butterfly-- I don't have my ornaments packed by theme, the fun of it is opening all the boxes on the living room floor, seeing everything I've got, and selecting a theme from there.

I'm seriously considering buying the tree with our tax refund. But the shipping alone would probably take the price up to close to $400. That's an awful lot of money, and I really, really want these floors done. No one can come into this house until they're done, and that means the kids' friends too. I've been spending up to $75 a month on ornaments (which may be only 2 or 3 ornaments, to "lay people". ). If I'm going to do that I may as well put aside $75 a month and call it Tree Money.
