Hi Lostagain! My ceiling fans are disgraceful, covered in 100% pure filth! Not only are they dusty but due to a very wet summer they must have collected moisture as well as dust and the dust is mouldy!! When I look at them (they are like Medusa - I try NEVER to look directly at them ) they are totally black instead of white and sometimes when I turn them on chunks of scary stuff come flying off! Horrifying. Too hard. Just won't look at them. IGNORE IGNORE IGNORE! Catbiscuit xx

I have to say mine are a nightmare!! The dirt ,dust and general grime on mine is beyond what I can comfortably think about. I havent cleaned mine in a year. They aren't as bad as one I saw on TV the dust bunny hanging from it looked like a worm or a small snake.

I think I'll climb up there now and see if the stuff comes off.

I did it a few weeks ago. I was getting ready to strip the bed and decided to use a pillow case on each blade to sort of pull the worst stuff off. Yech!
But mine wasn't as bad as my brother and SIL's new house. The previous owners liked to party, not clean. The ceiling fan in the kitchen looked like it had crepe draped over it, and there were tendrils on the ceiling radiating from it, mostly dog hair and dust. I suspect the accumulation dated from the installation of the fan, sometime in the '80s.
