I'm looking out my window and my sweet neighbor across the street is cleaning her mailbox, inside and out.

true story: the mailbox at my brother-in-law's swanky townhouse is poorly designed. WATER (from rain, melting snow, dripping icicles) seeps in and soaks the mail if it is left overnight. I can well imagine that there is now goop, glue, dust, mud, rust, gunk: whatever: on the bottom shelf. Which will probably stain/rot/damage the mail (which sometimes included CHEQUES!). Soon. I may very well suggest that the cleaning lady (this is not me) swipe out the mailbox at her next bi-weekly visit. And do NOT hastily dismiss the 'flaming poop' business. We had neighbours who used to throw doggie business bags into our backyard......they also cut down one of our trees once, but that is another story. not nice people

Well, her mailbox is under an awning, so no water. She's the most angelic, tiny, southern bell grandma you'd ever want to meet, so nyet on the dog poo.
She was just out there, at her mailbox, scrubbing away with her little cloth.
Does not compute.

Sigh. I am SO far away from having nothing else more pressing left to do than cleaning my mailbox.

I don't have to bother cleaning out the mailbox. The kids who routinely throw pumpkins at or otherwise knock over mailboxes have rendered it a rust bucket with drain holes that is barely held on with jerry-rigged bolts.
We won't bother replacing it, either, as it is just a matter of time...

Maybe she is experiencing demand resistance and is avoiding cleaning the enormous disaster in her bedroom... Just procrastinating by making sure that darn mail box is polished up and purty. I have been known to edge my front lawn with scissors, to avoid hauling out the electric trimmer and lawn mower.

I did once wash the front door. I was probably slightly manic at the time.

I have been known to clean my mailbox. I hate putting my hand into a mailbox and feel the unwelcomeness of spider webs.
Script, our mailbox used to get our mail wet, too. I went to great lengths with a small piece of wood, a roll of painters tape and some caulking to fill the gaps to prevent the leaks. Now the mail never gets wet.

Oh my! I once had a neighbor who cooked all of their meals in the basement because she "didn't want to get her kitchen dirty." Yep! She carried everything up and down the steps, many times a day.
