I'm going to list the items in my wardrobe. I think this would be a great exercise for me. This will require me to get everything out and try it on. :naughty:I'll be back!

About to go out to my car to get clothes for work. Second day in a row. I know I can't do that forever! Somebody tell me the heat in the car will ruin all my clothes and kick me in the butt and make me bring them in today even though I'm gonna use all my mojo on work. I know, I will think of it building muscles! I have to first clear out space in my closet to put the bags in. It's pretty clear already but not flat. I need flat bag stacking space. I'm gonna just live out of the bags and wash them all as I wear them and hang them on the second round.

Blackswan maybe the clothes would fit better into your closet if you took the stacks out of those bags.

My son's last size jeans are short, I've been separating them from his current size after I wash them over the last few weeks and it's done now. I was hesitant thinking about bringing them to the clothing bank because we only have 3 in his current size but I keep telling myself keeping them will not make more of his current size appear!

THis is a great post. I cannot and will not do the numbers thing.....only have 10 items of this or 10 items of that. I will get OCD about it. I also will not count my clothing. Again I will get OCD and I do not want to know how many items I have.
I will go through and donate things that are too small and things that just do not fit right or are not my colors.
I am ashamed to admit that I started pulling out my bins of summer clothing and found several items of clothing I purchased last year and never wore! I also found my summer shirts that I can never find at the beginning of summer and I always have to go out and buy more! I also found that I have FOUR coral summer sweaters.....So the one I was going to purchase online was quickly deleted from my shopping bag.
I also discovered that I have lovely clothing - and I really need to just lose a few pounds (from the belly butt area mostly) and I have clothing for life.
I thought I was pretty organized in having bins for summer clothing and winter clothing. But I realize I need to refine that system so that ALL of the shirts are together, ALL of the shorts are together, etc. It would help if I could access my dressers and get stuff put away. When I cannot find something (esp socks and underwear) i have to go out and buy more.
I am happy I have been weeding out the clothing. And giving it away. Even the new with tags stuff. I am learning its not just about having nice clothig - it's about having clothing that looks nice on you. And for me - that involves a slight trimming down.
I need to go back to the beginning an re-read this thread.

I was hesitant thinking about bringing them to the clothing bank because we only have 3 in his current size but I keep telling myself keeping them will not make more of his current size appear! I love it! Sounds like me. Interesting, the 'logic' we use in the clothing arena, isn't it?

..... So true.....keeping the items will not make them bigger or smaller - nor will it make us bigger or smaller. Release it to someone who truly needs it - and the unviverse will return it to us. Or something like that

YAY I was planning to bring them to the clothing bank because they give items away for free but I had them in the trunk and was at the thrift store to look for jeans so I just dropped them off there. I made a "compromise" I kept 3 until I find more but I brought the rest plus a sweat shirt that will be too small next winter and a t shirt he didn't like. I found one pair there and a new rain jacket for him. It felt so great to hand over the stack of clothes!

Sometimes I "shop" for free software and it feels as good a retail therapy. When I started tinkering around with Wordpress I installed so many free plugins and themes and had a grand time. Then I'd clear them all out and start fresh.

turkeyhill WooHoo! Good job. I managed to throw out a pair yesterday too. They were hopelessly stained so i made them my gardening/painting clothes. So now they are more stained and splattered with paint. Then because they are old, they started ripping in various places. So i finally threw them out. We will get there!

yesterday my daughter and I went to the mall. I went to the store where I usually online shop over lunch. I shop, then I empty to my cart, and I do the same thing the next day. Well while I was in the store, they had a couple of the items that were in my virtual shopping cart. So for fun, I tried them on. The Jacket did not fit right and the shirts did not do it for me. So there will be no more temptation for me to buy those items! I was bummed because I was hoping the jacket fit. I was looking for a basic black blazer.I was also surprised because usually the clothing in the store fits me real well.
Walked out empty handed. Feet great. Got my daughter two pair of the slouch boots she likes. $7 a pair!!!!! What a bargain! She was thrilled.
Of to sort and toss more! !!!

OhBlondie,
I know it's not always possible, but I think that's a great technique. What seems like the perfect item when shopping online isn't always so great in person. You avoided all the hassle of a mail return plus you quieted down the acquiring part of your mind. Excellent plan!
