Clothes line is nearly full. I am just finishing off my last load. This has made a big dent in the washing backlog.

My washer is messed up...grr...just as I was getting a good laundry routine to. It'll run through a whole cycle with no clothes but as soon as a put a load in (in this case size of load does not matter) it will agitate but not rinse or spin....*deep breath*

Hi desireelafleur, sorry to hear that your washer is playing up. Is it worth googling to see if it is known fault and/or if there is an easy work-around? I know that I have had success in minor maintenance to other appliances this way, but not sure if this is feasible for a washer. I am about to start putting away the last clothes from yesterday's washing bonanza. This is where I run into trouble, because of too many clothes for the available storage. Mmmm, I guess I need to start another donation box and make some decisions.

On August 14th I joined the "Dish-washer-upperers" thread as a place to be accountable re:washing dishes consistently. Reading through and posting to that thread has literally changed my life in that area. I still shake my head in disbelief that such long standing dysfunctional habits have changed.
What does that have to do with laundry you ask? Well, I have been pondering for some time tackling another dysfunctional habit(s).
LAUNDRY.
When I thought about joining this thread as a place to be accountable I came up with all sorts of excuses why this really isn't a good time for me.
My washer is broken. [self talk] "Why not wait until you have a working washer HERE?"
I'll be moving - probably within the next 3 months to 1 year. [self talk] "Start posting then because you'll have a working washer there and can really get into the CORRECT routine. Whatever routine you start now you'll just have to change."
I'll be travelling out of state for 2 - 6 weeks in the very near future. [self talk] "Wait until you return - how can you be expected to create a routine someplace else?"
All that internal resistance told me - NOW really is the time to start. Even if it has to be changed or tweaked or adapted.
So.............I begin.
I pretreat a lot of my clothes. When I ignore pretreating, laundry comes to a screeching halt. I have a BIG backlog of dirty clothes (to be pretreated and washed). This is where I will start.
Check/pretreat (if needed) today's dirties - DONE
Check/pretreat (if needed) 3 (or more) dirties from backlog - DONE
Fold/put away clean clothes on drying rack - DONE
Start delicates soaking - DONE
Plan 1st day to start washing pretreated clothes - WEDNESDAY - DONE
This is enough for today.

Well done gracious, I agree that being accountable on this thread is the first step to changing habbits. My next challenge will be to make space for clothes I am using rather than leaving them piled in laundry baskets.

Well done gracious...even if you have to change your routine it's best to have one. Washed dried and put away three loads. Towels dry waiting to be hung back up.

...even if you have to change your routine it's best to have one. I agree wholeheartedly. And my "routine" up 'til now has been hit or miss. Or when I feel like it. Or unexpected circumstances followed by a mad scramble to produce some needed clean clothes. This will definitely be a learning process.

Check/pretreat (if needed) today's dirties - DONE Check/pretreat (if needed) 3 (or more) dirties from backlog - DONE Fluff/put away clothes in dryer - DONE Plan loads to be washed Wednesday - DONE (this is a totally novel idea for me - I usually just stuff everything in the car whenever I get ready to leave and hope for the best thinking maybe I've allowed enough time to complete all these loads, maybe I haven't - the idea that I can calculate the number of loads I have which means I need approximately X amount of hours to complete those which means I need to leave at this time is revolutionary )

Our washing machine is still under warranty and the repairman will be out Friday to fix...but there is so much clutter in the basement I'm going to have to organize just so that he has enough room to pull the washer out. *hangs head*
