Louie and grasshopper, I've been chipping away at my magazine backlog 2 x 12 minutes a day. It's a pleasant task. I've finally caught up to the July issues, now with only one more day remaining in the month! On August 1st, I'll be behind again. Oh well. Slowly, slowly...

You have established such consistent habits, papermoon! A little bit at a time really adds up. I am going to start working on that again. I was getting pretty good at the daily kitchen clean up when I got derailed by emotional family issues. I am going to start establishing that again, along with 10 min of mail maintenance. You've inspired me!

I sorted the mail last night and filed it as I went. I also cancelled another mail order catalogue for a clothing store I really like. I unsubscribed from a couple of email lists. I had a phone call from an old client who needed some paperwork from me for a court case. Fortunately it was in the filing cabinet that I have got half sorted and I was able to find the file, do the paperwork and get it back to her all in the one day! It has given me a bit more motivation to really get stuck into the paper de-cluttering again so I can reach my goal of having it all done by the end of 2014. So, here is my updated To Do List I made back in April: finish sorting papers in four drawer filing cabinet in office - is 3/4 done finish shredding basket of papers - original basket done but now I have filled another! make up new files for 2 drawer cabinet in office done sort through mums paperwork - 21/04 remove papers from pantry - most are rubbish done21/04 four drawer filing cabinet in kitchen- sort through (contains papers from self employment) - this is 1/2 done clean large bookcase in lounge room of paper trash/receipts etc - 3/4 done throw out DS's boxes of papers from schoolchange to email statements where possible - done remove myself from catalogue deliveries - in progress I want to add: prepare papers for personal tax 2013/14 prepare papers for investments tax 2013/14 finalise mums funeral/estate paperwork/finances I'm going to have a big paperwork de-cluttering weekend starting when I get home from work tonight and see how much of this list I can knock over by Monday. Happy to have company if anyone wants to join me.

I was able to find the file, do the paperwork and get it back to her all in the one day! I am so impressed with your paperwork, Louie! What an awful, I mean, WONDERFUL thread this is! I abhor the paper. Buried in the paper. Boxes of the paper. You've inspired me to pull out 6 boxes to go through tonight. Ack!

well today I worked on the 4 drawer filing cabinet, tossed and filed papers, still a fair bit to go. I ended up spending most of my time finalising mums funeral/estate paperwork. I had to make three phone calls to different banks, a phone call to the funeral directors and then I finally went in to the bank to do the paperwork I needed to do there. I was there for quite a while and it all went much better than I expected. So I can now tick mums paperwork all my list, all sorted, completed, submitted and finished!

Sorted several boxes of papers. Old stuff from childhood and grade school and college. Yearbooks and other stuff I'd like to keep. And some random junk as well. I'm not sure how it ended up in the middle of the guest room floor. Some thrown out, some saved, some in a new pile to sort through. Threw out a pile of old magazines.
I know I am not being cut throat enough, but I also know I'm lucky just to be doing something. I have such a hard time getting going....I'm just going to keep going without being too critical about it. I feel like if I could just clear a bit more space, my mood would improve enough that I could make decisions better. But I'm not sure if I am fooling myself....

grasshopper, I don't think you're fooling yourself. These old papers can drag down our energy and cloud our thinking. By clearing them away, even just a bit at a time, you are lifting the clouds and enabling yourself to make better decisions.

Went through and threw out four magazines. I will have to not let them pile up but do this once a month.

OK papermoon! I'm making progress, though hanging on to some stuff. Will I ever read it? I don't know, but the best I can do right now is trim and organize!
I'm throwing out professional magazines and old professional paperwork. It's slow going. Pulling out some articles to review, but throwing out a lot of magazines. I just want it to be done. I want the corner of this room to be empty! My tendency towards OCD makes it hard for me to stop and get perspective. My sanity is telling me I can't do this all at once, but....
I will eat.

Ate-protein. I'm trying to clean things up for the long haul. I'm setting up a place in the corner to play librarian, which I guess is what I'm doing.... Maybe I'll just ditch all paper soon.... Throwing out magazines. I'm not counting bc I'm not that organized. Besides the professional mags I'm trying to save the good articles out of, I threw away a stack of home and garden type mags without looking at them.

It's August, I'm caught up with the backlog and now reading my August magazines, woo-hoo! All previous months have been read and donated. Of course, I still have a hidden stash of hundreds of magazines from the last millennium. But they're next, so watch out!

grasshopper, I think every little bit helps. When I did my first big declutter a few years ago there were things that I just could not face sorting through so I just put them all in boxes for later, so this time I've been able to sort them and get rid of a lot of it,as they have lost some of their emotional impact now. You're doing great! papermoon and desi, well done on the magazines! I've done my daily mail sort, planning on finishing the 4 drawer filing cabinet this weekend.

Up nice and early so I can go hard on the paperwork today. I'm in the right mood to go hard this weekend and see how much I can knock off that list. First up is to finish de-cluttering the 4 drawer filing cabinet.

Woo Hoo! It's done!! [/img] 4 drawer filing cabinet is finally completely emptied and everything in it has been sorted. I filled another washing basket with papers to be shred from what I went through this morning. I've got 27 more empty hanging files. The amount that went back in only takes up one drawer, so thats three very full drawers of papers GONE!! When I started working on the paperwork this cabinet was stuffed so full and I had papers all over the top of it as well. I'm going to have breakfast and then do some more paper de-cluttering from my list.
