Gee,--just when I thought that I was beginning to make some progress . . .
I discovered TWO (more) big boxes of "stash and dash" paper clutter. At least one of the boxes is from 2010.
Ah, yes! That's the year that my FIL was dying . . .
There's almost always some crisis or other associated with my piles of "clutter."

good luck with the boxes Arid I had to make some phone calls today about mums paperwork as the funeral director didn't submit his part on time. so one more form filled out and I'll fax it off tomorrow. I filed the paperwork from todays mail, tossed the envelopes. Did a bit more work on sorting papers for my tax.

It's late and therefore I need to get to bed, but I am posting here to commit to tackling some of my huge paper clutter problems starting tomorrow morning. Years ago (from 2007-2010), I had all my papers under control. Then my apartment flooded, and I lost control of my beautifully organized filing system. I have never quite tackled the growing problem since then, and it is costing me. I have lost important documents, or part of important documents, including my car registration, bills to be paid, etc. It is costing me money and, more importantly, it's costing me in terms of a lot of extra stress and time lost trying to find or replace what I lost. So starting tomorrow, I am pledging to no longer let the piles of paper accumulate in the house. I am committing to putting away every new document that comes in the house, plus a minimum of one "old" document every day, until my piles are all gone. I will be back in the morning with a progress report. ~Mouse :

I'm back! Paper clutter has been tackled, though the fight isn't over. I gave myself amnesty on the weekly flyers that came in this week and last week. I'm broke until next payday anyway, so there's no point in looking for bargains in the flyers anyway, am I right? I'm having trouble (as usual) getting rid of the gazillion greeting cards I have. So much so that I created a separate thread about it on the boards. With any luck I'll be able to tackle those at some point soon as well. Right now I'm trying to divide things into piles. Things that need to be recycled are going right into the recycling bin so that I don't put it off and end up with another pile. Everything else is getting sorted into bills and other papers. I won't bore you with the details. So far the table isn't clear, but it's looking better than it was. ~Mouse

hi cando [/img] [/img] hi mouse! I spent some time collecting papers for my tax yesterday. also sorted and tossed papers that had grown into a pile under the coffee table. I had to get some papers certified so I can claim some money and I did that on Friday. Today I'm going to fill out several forms that need to be posted, pay the fortnights bills and toss out the newspapers. [/img]

Yesterday, I paid the car notes... CD ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Aug. 16th, Saturday - 8 papers into recycle bag, Filed some important papers & researched on one that came in the mail, today. Put it in Office in a Bag. They sent DD's first payment of her Stipend to our home address rather than her apartment in NY. That check is not right. I know it is for her, but I had to check it out and I will have to deposit it for her. Before I could file those important papers, I had to make a new file folder & had to send out a couple emails regarding one of the papers. Great job gathering tax papers & clearing the pile under the coffee table, Louie !!! CD

WTG cando and Louie! I didn't get much done on the paperwork after I posted yesterday, because I had a busy day of socialising, but I did get all of the papers sorted into piles, and all of the papers I didn't need anymore got recycled. I'm now down to three smallish piles that I will need to sort through (take bills out of their envelopes, etc.) and file away in my filing cabinet. Since my parents are visiting today, I might ask my father to help me bring up my filing cabinet from the basement. It's small but awkward and a little heavy for one person to handle on their own. ~Mouse

I finally got caught up with the current magazines, reading and then donating them. I don't believe in throwing out magazines... not when it's so easy to leave them where someone else can enjoy them... lobby, laundry room, doctor's office, coffee shop. For the past 2 days, I've started going through my hoard of really old magazines, hidden in jumbo ziplocs on the floor underneath my bookcases. I'll work on them daily until the end of the month, then switch back to the current September magazines. And so on, back and forth... to conquer both.

mouse - good work on getting the papers sorted into piles!! - papermoon - you've really done an amazing job with your magazine 'stash' well done! I am feeling full of energy this morning and planning on really get in stuck into this list again over the next two days. Work has been very stressful the last two weeks, one colleague had resigned, another has gone off on stress leave. I've considered my future plans and decided to stay as long as possible but also to prepare in case of lay-offs by applying to grad school - something I have always wanted to do. So I really want to get my house decluttered and back to maintenance before then. My To Do list for paper clutter is looking much better than when I started. My challenge is to do as much as I can in the next 48 hours! finish sorting papers in four drawer filing cabinet in office- done finish shredding basket of papers - original basket done but now I have filled another! make up new files for 2 drawer cabinet in office done sort through mums paperwork - done remove papers from pantry - most are rubbish done21/04 four drawer filing cabinet in kitchen- sort through (contains papers from self employment) - this is 1/2 done clean large bookcase in lounge room of paper trash/receipts etc - done throw out DS's boxes of papers from schoolchange to email statements where possible - done remove myself from catalogue deliveries - Done prepare papers for personal tax 2013/14 - in progress prepare papers for investments tax 2013/14 - done finalise mums funeral/estate paperwork/finances

just checking in - I spent quite a while yesterday trying to get my shredder to work with no success. each time I got a few papers done it would conk out again - probably still hasn't recovered from the mammoth shredding weekend I had when I first started here anyway, I'm going to take a bag of papers to work each day and shred them there instead of buying a new one. It will take longer but thats OK. I've made reasonable progress on the tax papers but still more to go - I pulled a muscle in shoulder last night so I'm taking it easy today.

Just in case anyone is wondering . . . I'm still dealing with "junk mail" *EVERY SINGLE DAY!!* Some of it is old; some of it is new. I'm not in any danger of running out of my "supply" of junk mail any time soon! !! Arid
