You are all doing so great plugging away despite feelings of shame and discomfort. perfectionist, keep picking up just one more thing! I know exactly how you feel! My biggest problem is just 'starting.' Each time we try again, even if it lasts only a moment, is a success! lostchild, I understand completely. Hearing you say it inspires me to let go of the past. Let's forgive ourselves! Financial disorganization is a bummer, but doesn't make us horrible people. I'm saying this because I've suddenly become aware of how I globally condemn myself for a few troublesome traits. You are always so perfectly descriptive, papermoon! You made me aware that I feel like a sewer dweller. I carry that sentiment around with me like a bucket of sludge. It's heavy and stinky but I've had it for so long I'm not aware of it. No wonder I want to hide. Here's hoping we all receive a big dose of comfort and ease today. Yesterday I cleaned out a desk drawer. Mixed clutter, paper and odds and ends. Lots of little pieces of paper with contact information or code numbers that I have no memory of. Who or what is this? In the trash. A gift card I never used, probably too old. What do I do with all these pennies?! So much loose change. Two very cheap watches I should just throw away. I throw away stuff but am still probably relocating too much rather than disposing of it. Oh well. Baby steps. Did the second sort of boxes of paper I went through weeks ago. Now there is one box in front of the TV to do a first sort through. It's been a long time since I looked at it. Research about a house project. I was saving receipts to take it off my taxes. But the project isn't done and the taxes are confusing.

Shredded some papers. Made phone call for business. Got good news.

Started in on the box. Way too many paint color cards. Receipts. A bunch of How To articles. A binder with How To and craft ideas. Mouse droppings. I'm working on it.

Recycled the receipts, most of the paint cards, a lot of the articles. Filing some of the How To articles.

Here's what I wrote on my blog today: The rough part is the emotional wear and tear from the paperwork. Since the papers are in total disarray, I never know what I'm going to pull out with each handful, or what horrors from my past I will have to confront. Yet it must be dealt with. As lostchild said: Thank you for that wisdom, lostchild. I needed that. So I will keep soldiering on through the paper piles. But I'm going to mitigate the pain a bit by switching to my "alternate-tasks" method (such as dust or vacuum, swish or swipe). On alternate days, I'll go back to making my way through the old magazine hoard. That's a known, and fairly soothing, so it should offset the paper sewage crawl every other day. I'm starting this plan today.

Liesel it makes perfect sense that we see our papers as an emotional extension of ourselves.
Paperwork is my nemesis too. I took care of mail and generated more paper doing schoolwork. Its multiplying while I watch. It doesn't even have decency to wait until I turn my head!!!

Liesel - Do you think scanning in, or photographing the letters, etc., so you have a digital copy would allow you to get rid of the paper? That might be an approach to consider. The desktop scanners they have these days are pretty good.
From my own pile, I tackled one of the paper issues that's been bothering me this morning. After I run some errands this afternoon I'm going to come home, pay my MIL's bills and then start chipping away at one or two more of my own paper projects.

Got paperwork faxed to Texas...Had to call code compliance. Neighbor's tree knocked over fence and another has grown into my yard where I can't reach my barbeque grill. The tree over grew the area. I have to borrow chainsaw to cut it down. It is almost 9 feet into my yard in all directions.
Dealt with paper and getting it under control.
Unfortunately I have papers on counter but they are there because I am still working on them. I have no desk space because its coveted in school papers...studying for finals. Exhausted from studying. Still keeping house clean though.

I got 3 letters from the IRS today, concerning the mounting penalties that continue to accrue on 3 overdue tax returns. I opened all 3 letters fearlessly because: 1) I've trained myself to immediately open and face the daily mail every single day; and 2) my status with the IRS is still "Non-Collectible" and not likely to change in the foreseeable future.
So I need to phone them tomorrow and re-confirm my status.
Used to be, I couldn't do that without having a complete meltdown, spiraling down into depression for months or years. But that was then. I have learned how to face the music and dance.

Created more paper in doing homework. I finished assignment and took test and submitted PowerPoint presentations.
One more test and presentation to go. The all accounting all day.

Hi everyone I'm back from my vacation, and 10 minutes are done today. In the process, I found two documents that I will need tomorrow. Wonderful; I won't have to worry about those any more. Have a wonderful Sunday, dear friends!

Spent an hour going thru and tossing and shredding. I found accordion folder to put stuff in that was left. One of my cats decided he liked the clean container and went to sleep in the basket. It only has 4 sheets of paper so no harm no foul.

Sat and did papers that needed to be filled out and tossed some on desk. Sorted some others. Got somewhat organized toward schoolwork.

Mailed out all documents early. I am very happy about that. No second notices.
