I'm not sure of the total hours of paperwork I did last week, maybe 5 or 6. But I did everything required to respond to the tax board's request to update my financial status... several phone calls and emails, printing out and filling out forms and other documents proving my income and expenses, writing a cover letter of explanation, and faxing everything to the tax board by end-of-day Friday.
It feels great to have that load off my mind for the weekend. There might be a few minor loose threads to tie up, but I'll wait patiently until I hear from the tax board, probably next week.
However, all this work essentially amounts to treading water and maintaining status quo for another year. I still need to file the delinquent tax returns. I haven't yet figured out how to get myself to do it. But I will!

Hi y'all! Great job with all the paperwork & going thru papers!!! papermoon -- I'm wondering if you might want to message CourageouslyLion SeeksSerenity . I know she got through that situation, too, and is such an inspiration. I remember her posting about it all, but I don't remember the details. If I am remembering right... I think she may have even gotten out of doing some of them. I wish you best of luck with this. You "cando" it!!! Today, I paid a couple bills & went thru a bunch of bills and mail. Didn't toss any of it, but did put the bills to be paid in my Office in a Bag. CD

Tossed about 30 personal papers. It's getting more and more difficult. I'm not sure if that's good or bad.

flotsam ~ Perhaps you need to take a paper pause for a while. Would it be easier to move through your books instead? cando ~ I've got all the outside help I need for doing my taxes. But bottom line is... me. I will get there, somehow. Yesterday I did an hour of paperwork, mostly shredding. The recycled-paper bag is almost 4 pounds full. I'll bomb it down the recycling chute when it reaches 5-6 pounds.

Thanks for the suggestion, papermoon.
After some mulling about it I think it makes sense to step back a bit. I'll report every now and then, but I think I won't work with the same intensity as during the last two months for a while. I've culled quite a lot!
Today I filed statements of accounts and shredded the accumulated papers.

I went through my things-to-read shelf yesterday and was shocked to see how many unread magazines had accumulated there. I've gotten kinda stuck with my paper processing, which ideally I should be doing one hour each day. I'm thinking I could spend that hour on the magazine pile-up for a few days. I'll try today.

In the spring, I received a letter from the IRS that I owed them thousands of dollars. I didn't. I had recorded my income on the wrong line. I had to pay a CPA to fix it. A month ago I received a letter that my re-filed taxes had been received. Last week I received a letter that I was due a small refund. Wednesday I received the same refund letter. Today I received two separate letters that the refund was on the way. One of the letters had the same sheets of paper printed out twice. One hand doesn't know what the other hand is doing Now I'm afraid to throw any of this mess away.

Perhaps this isn't the place to ask, but I will anyway. But it is paper, old papers. I have sermon notes that I took from years ago. I am really tempted to throw away the whole box of them. I don't know that I ever go back through them. Spiral notebooks full of sermon notes. I take notes to help internalize the sermon and remember it. I had thought, for a while, to recopy them, I did some. But it took forever. I don't want to do that either. If I really want to hear those sermons again, I could on the internet. So I don't necessarily NEED MY notes. Earlier I pretended that a couple of them had gotten damaged and got rid of them. But I'm hesitating to do the whole box. But I want to. Because it is really really tempting to just get rid of all of them, like I did a couple of them. I think it would be ok. I really don't see any benefit to keeping them. So, I thought, let me ask a friend.

Vyaspigeon, maybe you should check to see how far back the sermons that are available online go, then use that information to help you make your decision?

I watched them online or on TV, and chances are I'm not going to go back and read them. I haven't yet. I could just put them in a box. I just know I can't keep everything.
I think they're more like "class notes from school."
I have too many things. And every time I want to get rid of something, I can always find a reason to keep it, at least for a little while longer. Just to be sure. No matter what it is. Or that's how it seems.
