I know. I have a stack of notebooks like that as well. Had not got so far in my thinking as to wonder what to do about them--yet!

1rarebeautifuldove, some questions you could ask yourself: - Would I look forward to reading them now if I had to? - Am I still in the same place, or have I grown? - Will I learn more from old notes or from new sermons? I gave away a lot of self-help books because I have grown. I even destroyed diaries. Today I started with reorganizing some binders: I put quite a lot from here to there, and I printed some labels (not on the binders yet). I can't do it all at once; the system has to develop one (or some) binder at a time.

Flotsam - I was able to destroy old diaries. I have given some self help books away. These are not "full" spiral notebooks - there are blank pages. I could put the sermon notes in a regular notebook, even to put them by subject matter. Would I benefit from the information, yes. Have I grown - yes, but with the Bible I keep getting "more" new understanding from the same scriptures. If I put them all in one notebook, it would look a whole lot neater. I put and kept the ones containing my memories of my grandmother written shortly after I died. While the memories were fresher to me. Basically I went around the house and gathered up all my spiral notebooks. I copied some of the material already - into journal books. Right now, I have no inclination to do that with these. When I copied the material, it was beneficial to me as it was a good reminder of the goodness of God. Perhaps I could do a page at a time. But with the room in the state it's in, that isn't an option. I took the notes initially to help internalize the information, not to use as reference material later. I'm not a pastor who needs them to teach from, or to use as a springboard for ideas for a sermon. Should the opportunity to move to Russia materialize, I don't know that I would take these. Perhaps for now, I can do things that I can get rid of and put these on hold, so to speak. I did get rid of a couple. But then stopped. The challenge for me now is for the most part, now that I am acutely aware of how bad my house looks. I am trying to keep chipping away at it. Chipping away seems to be the best, get rid of what I can, come back to things that are harder to release today another day. For example, today I took an entire plastic shoebox filled with new 3x5s to be donated along with the other donations and all elements of the SHE system. When I first arrived here to this site, I thought I was doing good to just put all the 3x5s in that box and label it. Which I was. Today, I released it. I also threw away, finally, all previously filled out for SHE activity cards for housework. I had made cards from 4 efforts at 4 different times in my life and tried to do that program. Today I realized that their system really just didn't work for me and so I would just get rid of the reminder of that and move on to methods that DO WORK for me. Very Freeing! In fact, right after I put that in the car to take, my attorney called to tell me that my accident case had finally settled. I am happy with the amount, even though it's only enough to seriously offset the medical bills. I will still have to pay some. But I am pleased with how it turned out and the doctor that treated me will be paid. So, good things are happening.

I don't force myself to get rid of things, but some months later I'm ready, and then I do it. When I hoped I'd move relatively soon, I focused on large items. Now that my plans have changed, I focus on other things. Reorganized some more, and now 14 binders are (re)labeled. More to come. No mail.

I spent almost the whole day with the binder project. Now quite a lot are relabeled, and I've shuffled the papers around a lot, especially the non-work papers. I guess it makes more sense now.
I don't know yet which binders I can get rid of. My main goal is to finish the organizing and labeling.

All binders are reorganized (though not completely sorted through) and relabeled—except the empty ones of course. So far I'm not sure what will happen to the empty binders. I want to work with the current system for a while before I'll make decisions for them.
I also went through some folders and put some of the papers in the existing binders. There was only a little to toss.
Again no mail today.

Well done, flotsam! I bet it feels good going into the weekend with all the binders reorganized and labeled. I hope that makes the remaining organization easier to finish.

So happy! DH and I got our 2014 Taxes filed. DH was the one who did them, but I helped him with some parts... like providing the needed papers & calling some things out to him. It was much easier this year, since I had most everything together. It is so hard when you have to go thru bags and boxes... searching thru papers to find the ones you need. This year was the easiest one we've ever filed due to having everything available and ready. So much easier not having to search thru boxes & bags this year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CD

papermoon, having the binders reorganized feels definitely good, and now I can take a new approach. It was a good idea of you to make me stop and rethink my plan of attack. Monday to Saturday: I worked each day 25 minutes and papers for the job and tossed some. Sunday: sorted through some personal cards and letters and tossed about 25. Decided to get rid of 3 books.

flotsam, I'm so happy to hear that! Yesterday I did an hour of sorting and shredding. Today my computer is slow and cranky. That should free up more time for paperwork.
