hi everyone; reconnecting with this thread because i need it! you all inspire me - getting rid and maintaining the paper duties. shredding sounds like fun! i think i need to try it. wow papermoon - how exciting - almost 7 lbs of paper recycled and shredded! great job! you aren't shredding the magazines, are you - i take it you are just recycling them as-is or clipping out what you may want. got way behind again in even basic things like opening mail. as a consequence, my quarter 2 state taxes were late and i had to pay a penalty. there are several trays of paper lying around the living room. i have mounds of paper from recent projects that, for now, i must keep. have papers in storage. pretty good on the magazines - probably have one full box of them, that is all. i still have 2014 taxes to face. already paid, just need to crunch the numbers a bit more and fill out all forms. so you'll hopefully be seeing me a bit on this thread, now that dreaded summer is over and i can stop watering so durned much.

I'm freaking out. I'm finally tackling my desk and there are some issues that I've put off for far too long that are making me feel like puking. I'm tired of feeling like this, and tired of letting myself "forget" about these things for months at a time. I think it's a form of clutter blindness, but it is not serving me. I need to make permanent changes. This can't go on.
1st step - clear off my desk and clean it thoroughly. Put away all the makeup and random items that are getting in the way of getting things done. 2nd Step - Sort all the papers into general categories 3rd Step - Attack the piles 4th Step - Formulate plan and organizational system so this NEVER happens again. (There's no reason for it, it's just contrariness and sloth and a vague sense that I don't deserve to be happy.) 5th Step - Success!
Wish me luck. I truly feel like this is the last major stumbling block for me to get over and then I'll be free. I deserve it. My family certainly does, even if I don't, but I do. The only thing holding me back from having a perfect life is me. So I need to stop it, just deal with my paper, get it done and then live my wonderful life.

Good luck, perfectionist! I took two starts, and now the end is near after working slowly and steadily for some months. You can do it, too! I think I'm quite close to finishing the main part of the paper project, working on papers I can get rid of/sort quickly. When sidestep started a short challenge (just until Labor Day) I decided to participate and make an extra effort to Get. It. Done. Today I worked about two hours on papers, mainly on papers for the job, but also on others, tossing and filing.

Today: 1 hour, 1/2 magazine Yesterday I finished the first stack of one type of magazines in one week. Now I'm starting on another type (World of Interiors, my to-die-for favorite) and it's going waaaay slower...

Papermoon, could you save the most difficult for last, when you'll have developed bigger decluttering muscles? Today I worked all in all 2.5 hours on papers, again mainly on job papers. It's quite exciting that the end is in sight!

Papermoon, could you save the most difficult for last, when you'll have developed bigger decluttering muscles? Oh I've got the muscles all right. But I've also got stacks my favorite World of Interiors magazines that I love so much. I'm working my way systematically (doggedly) down the hall, and the WOI mags are next. I haven't wanted to even think about letting go of any... that is, I hadn't thought about it until my success this past week with those other magazines. It helps to remember the last WOI issue I bought a few months ago... I thoroughly enjoyed it, then clipped one keeper article on Italy, slipped it into a corresponding book, and donated the magazine. I believe I can do that with these other WOIs. Some will be total keepers, some will be clip&donate. Either way, I'm expecting to enjoy the process. on your revved-up paper tossing!

The " " didn't look too joyful. But I'm happy to hear you think you'll enjoy the slow process. Day 3 of the Labor Day Challenge: Worked 1.5 hours on papers. Tossed two magazines and a bunch of papers for the job.

Day 4 of the Labor Day Challenge: Worked 1.25 hours on personal papers. Since I found "forgotten" papers yesterday I went through another binder I assumed to be organized—and found more to get rid of (well, it was organized, but not decluttered). I think I'm done. Of course not perfectly, but I think that going on would be driving it too far (into perfectionism). It's time to move on, to move the focus even more to The Project. I feel I'm now free to do that. That doesn't mean I'll leave the thread completely, but I no longer feel the need to post daily. Louie, if you are still reading here: Thank you so much for starting this thread! You not only changed your life, but also other's. Thanks to all participants and cheerleaders!
