I scraped, rinsed and loaded all the breakfast dishes. Still not enough to run. I will run the DW after lunch dishes are loaded.

An interesting thing is happening, these days. I find myself either loading dirty dishes, or,washing them by hand, while I cook. Today I made low-carb hamburger stroganoff for lunch. I found myself putting seasonings away as soon as I finished with them, putting the bowls and plates in the dishwasher as soon as I had emptied the ingredients from them. And washed measuring spoons and cups by hand as soon as I finished using them. Yes, I know that's what we're "supposed" to do, but I've never actually done it before.
By the time, the meal was finished cooking, all the dishes were washed and everything put away.
It made the after meal cleanup so much easier.

I actually don't care if there are dishes in the sink overnight. But I have rules. it would probably be easier to just wash them. The sink has to be clean The dishes hase to be rinsed thoroughly NO VISIBLE residue They have to be stacked neatly They cannot extend over the top of the sink Flatware and cooking utensils have to be free of any visible food and put in a large plastic cup Any sign of Sink Soup totally grosses me out. I CANNOT put my hands in it. Tonight I didn't feel like unloading the dishwasher so I spent 20 minutes or so getting tonight's dishes ready to leave. Sometimes I don't understand me.

Today's dishes - DONE
GRyPiT - DONE
Maintaining cleared counters - 88% (some flotsam and jetsam that I shall deal with in the next couple of days)

I thought I was only one with rules.
No dishes in sink overnight.
A pan is allowed to soak overnight only if extremely stuck on meaning I have already gotten off everything I can and scrubbed twice and goop is still stuck on...rarely is this done...it bothers me so much I get up during night and scrubbed again till clean...yes I know that's a bit much but I don't wake to dishes.
Dishwasher must be unloaded fully at least once a day!!
Counters must be wiped after each meal and stove after dinner every night.
All dishes must be confined to kitchen except cups for night time water to go with medicine!!!
I am allowed to eat in room only if doing homework. Dishes must be immediately taken out upon finishing eating.
Kids eat at table and are restricted to limited food in living room for example popcorn with Sprite okay...clear drink if spilled and popcorn able to be vacuumed...
These all have help restrict mess to minimum

Having a dishwasher almost seems like cheating because it's so easy. You can just "put away" dirty dishes! And I have a drainer now right next to the sink (I didn't have one when I was using the broken DW as a drainer) and I wash big things when I'm done with them and put them in there. It's just SO much easier to wash things right after you use them … and the trick is to have the sinks empty all the time. I don't really have rules … I'm just loving empty sinks that are always ready to use, and dishes all clean and ready, too. About twice a day I wipe the sinks and counters, and everything looks great all the time. No more perpetually soaking dishes and sink soup and counters covered with stuff to be washed. Now when DD asks me to make her something, I just go and make it, instead of groaning and wondering if I can make some space and dishes available.

WTG gracious wynken lostchild larataylorI don't have any rules, either. I just kinda go with the flow, on basically everything. Yesterday, I did not unload the dishwaasher, so naturally, I did not load any dirty dishes. Everyone was gone yesterday evening, and there just weren't that many dishes, so I left them. I did hand wash some dishes as I used them, but things I wanted to go through the DW got left - mostly in the sink. There were maybe 6 glasses, 3 plates, a half dozen saucers, a couple of serving bowls, a little silverware. Not much at all. This morning, the kitchen looks like a disaster! Even with just those few things. I know it will only take a few minutes to have everything loaded and cleared away - still, I don't think I want to do that again!

DGS was home and hungry, so I cooked tonight. Loaded/hand washed supper dishes, put food away, tossed out trash and made a cup of hot tea. Now to check on Mother.

All dishes done tonight.
It took less time to unload and reload the dishwasher than it takes me to get dishes to the state where I will leave them.
