ok done - i posted this on my 10 min thread but want you guys to feel support too so here you go.. DAY 1 done!
Ok I did it. I got one contractor bag ready to take out this weekend. And another half full. Cleaned out the sink and the adjacent cupboard. rinsed it down and scrubbed it and am soaking about 5 dishes. It looks great. Thanks for the help i may not have done it if i hadn't run across this. And I don't feel guilty for stopping there because i know it's small and consistant that runs the race. that's the mistake i've made. put lots of energy then get discouraged... so a little bit at a time for a change. harder but easier.

I joined the 40 bags in 40 days facebook group and was pleasantly surprised how many people were posting before photos and how supportive many of the posters were. If you join, be sure you turn off your notifications, because it is a very busy group and you will get inundated with emails or notifications.
I shredded enough documents today that I filled the shredder to overflowing! I dump that out into the chicken coop and it eventually turns into compost/humus.
I'm counting that as one more bag. (Note today was a day off and on days off I will usually do more than 1 bag to make up for the days that I will be gone from home for 14 + hours which often happens on work days.)
ETA: I may choose to "Leave" the facebook "group" because It's filling up my newsfeed at an overwhelming rate!

I collected one bag (grocery store take-home size)from the floor of the laundry room. I would not have done that today if not for this challenge. 1 out of 40 done.

I filled today's 'bag to go out' w old tennis shoes. One pair - hardly worn- will go to goodwill. The others into the trash. I kept saving them for 'muddy work' in the garden, but when it's muddy, I don't garden, L0L. And since I keep wearing out 'new' shoes, the stack of old ones just kept growing. Some had been waiting to be worn again for years. Since these were in the closet, and that same closet is where I keep the canned catfood supply, I was able to reorganize that too. It will now be easier to find various flavors. And there is now room on the closet floor for a container to recycle cat food cans, etc I need a better way of keeping track of my '40 bags out'. I'm thinking of making a paper grid with 5 X 8 empty squares, and putting a star sticker into each square when a bag is filled. Every time you see a star, a trash bag gets its wings.

Every time you see a star, a trash bag gets its wings. DAY 2 I went through our games and puzzles and ended up with more than a bag's worth to toss. But I have to run a few decisions by the owners of a few games. Fingers crossed.

I was hoping to purge plastic dishes for Wednesday's kick off, but didn't manage it yet. I'm going to need to clear some space to sort into first, and I'll need Husband's height to reach the ones squirreled away on the top shelves!
Something I can do today without waiting for a helper is clean out the chest freezer. I've got paper and pencil in hand to record the survivors so I can meal plan, and I've already thrown away a bag of very freezer burned chixn breasts!

I wanted to get ahead a bag, so removed from the 'sunroom' a large box of leaves and pod husks, now destined for the compost heap. So 3 of 40 down.

Day 2 Bag 2 -- Actually I did not bag up yet but I have a pile of about 40 books to take to the recycled reader on Saturday. Letting go of all those self-help books that I bought because I thought they held the magic I need to conquer Life.

Day #2: Tossed some things in the bathroom and started on my book case. This one is hard for me. Got some food out of kitchen to donate too.
