I think soapyclean has a great idea!! Can you call anonymously and ask those questions? I am sure they will say they have seen it all before. I think I mentioned this before, but a plumber came to my dad's very messy house and fixed various issues..a very stopped up kitchen sink, replaced a toilet, sluggish bathtub, etc. He was actually a very friendly guy and did not mention the state of the house at all.
Please call them today to allay your fears. You can do this!

It was a grumpy old man and he was mad I didn't get RIGHT back to him. "I'm trying to run a business you know, I can't be waiting around for people to call me back on their cell phones" He asked a bunch of questions I had know idea about. The conversation ended with him saying he would be in our area Wednesday (today) and call me when he could stop over. We waited all morning and then finally had things to do but I kept my cell phone on me in case he called back HE DIDN'T I was actually glad. Now I will have to go in search of another one. I would have been way to upset over this grouchy one coming anyway.

You are paying them for a service. Their job is to come in and fix what you pay them to fix, not comment on the condition of your house. If mr. Grumpy plumber isnt happy doing what hes doing, maybe he needs to find another job. You dont need to have a grumpy plumber, you are paying him. I hope you find the right plumber on your next call. Keep up the good work, you can do this!

And if you can just dismiss him on account of his lousy attitude, you can do the same for anyone else who dares to comment. I once had a washer repairman who b!tched at me for washing with cold water instead of warm. I think he commented on how dirty it was under the washer also. I NEVER called him again. I felt no need to be traumatized by it. I just don't have time for that kind of attitude! Remember, HE works for YOU.
You can do this!!

I found three more in our area. They are not big company plumbers, just guys that are plumbers. I will give one of them a call tomorrow. I do not know which one I will call. If you are so inclined, I would appreciate any prayers of calmness and peace and that I choose the "right person" for our situation. (and that I can get one of the boys to re-mow the path to the basement since I waited so long to call )

Best of luck to you. I think you will find a good person; most plumbers won't risk bad word of mouth.
And remember me sitting in the floor eating when the plumber worked. I did not die of embarrassment, even though I knew the man and knew his house was spotless (been there).

I emailed one this morning, promising to follow up with a call for an appointment this evening or tomorrow. It was funny, we were driving down the road earlier and I was arguing with myself in my head about which plumber to call, and this truck drives past us and it was one of the guys. So that is the one I picked. Its been raining so we cannot mow the pathway today, so that is kind of adding to my anxiety.

It sounds like fate is guiding you to the right guy. When you schedule his appointment, ask him if you should wait until the weather clears so you can mow the path. I wouldn't be surprised if he says it doesn't matter.

OMG OMG I CALLED THE PLUMBER!!!!! A nice lady answered and took my information and the appointment is for Tuesday at 10am. I AM GOING TO FREAK OUT UNTIL THEN!!! It is going to take EVERYTHING imaginable for me not to call and make up an excuse to cancel it. I have to keep telling myself "He is only looking at the problem, deciding what has to be done and giving an estimate. Won't have to come inside the upstairs of the house to do that, he only needs to go in the basement" REPEAT ON A MINUTE TO MINUTE BASIS UNTIL TUESDAY. I CAN'T BELIEVE I CALLED!!!!!

GREAT! And please don't cancel. You need to get the problem resolved so it's not an albatross.
