So far ... Pulled everything off the top shelf of the late-summer project closet. They're framed pictures that I've used in the past and still like, but they don't quite fit into the decor any longer. Like, what do I do with my 35-year-old wedding picture, professionally framed in a gold frame that doesn't go with anything?? I have to think about these pictures. Do I have a place to hang them? Do they get piled into the sentimental bin project pile if they're photographs? Has the time come to take a picture and donate any of them? MORE DECISIONS!
So where are they now? In a pile on the dining room table. Sigh. I wouldn't put them there because I want that table clear. BUT!!! Energizer Bunny Hubby, who is painting the house, has turned half of the table into his paint launching station for the last few weeks. So it makes no real difference right now.
Back to the closet report! After emptying the top shelf, I hung up my sweatshirts, hoodies and sweaters into the closet. YIPPEE! Then I hung up the rest of my clothes OFF the floor and INTO the newly created space in my main closet. I found clothes I forgot I owned! It was better than a clothes shopping trip, because I wasn't spending money.
While at it, I threw about six cheap hangers (you know, the wire ones with cardboard bottoms that I've always hated but never tossed before), and a pair of purple flip flops (that I shouldn't wear because of my sciatic nerve issues) into my Donation Station.
Okay, back to work. I'll be going back and forth between dealing with what's on the bottom of the closet, or working my way through the two paper bins I pulled out of the closet last weekend and put into my office. The jobs will be determined by my pain level at the time.
It's really so much easier to sit and veg and keep the pain down. Oh well. No pain, no gain.

Hello to everyone--and good work to everyone continuing on with your goals.
I've learned something--no more exercise goals in the challenges--I can never meet them and then it discourages me from even posting, let alone from doing my other goals.
I've done a few half-hearted stretches during the last few days, but I no longer have the motivation since I'm afraid of doing the wrong thing. Will revisit this later.
Tomorrow I have a light work day and am determined to do something on my challenge list! I will be back here to report tomorrow night.

1rarebeautifuldove, you are doing so well! I love that you have self-care so high on your priority list right now. It is a great example to me. Ah buttercup! What beautiful after pictures! Dear dtesposito, I'm sorry about your exercise challenge. Diane, so well done for getting those clothes hung up! How exciting to find clothes you forgot you had. ___________ More book purging. Yesterday I released TWO full boxes of VINTAGE books and magazines to a local antique mall owner. She even gave me MONEY! Today, I sorted one box of vintage craft magazines that had belonged to my Great Aunt. A fellow crocheter. I just don't get anything emotionally from these magazines which is a bit surprising. I used to be crazy about this stuff. No charge, not any more. So I'm taking advantage of the absence of emotion and will just get them gone. I will admit to taking what I think is too much time sorting, paging through the flyers and leaflets and patterns and magazines. Searching for some little treasure of a picture or a pattern or something. Nope. Nada.

WTG angela little bit of money for your decultter. I have about 150 books loaded in the back of my Explore ready to drop off at swapshop. So hard to let go of the books, but then that moments hits (after about the 5 culling) it is just time to release them and release yourself.

Buttercup - that is awesome how much you've accomplished! What a difference! And on those 150 books too!!! Diane58 - Don't part with your wedding photo! I snagged the one of my parents, it's one of my favorite pictures of them. And I want a marriage like they had so ... it has extra meaning for me. They really did have a wonderful marriage. Your wedding day is significant in that it's the day the vows were made that you're still keeping today. Ok, it doesn't go with the decor, but keep it. Your husband is a wonderful man to paint the house! A good marriage is the most beautiful relationship in all the world to me. Especially one that has stood the test of time and life, with all it's craziness. A 35 year marriage is so great, The one thing, If I could have only one thing in this life, I would want a lifetime relationship with someone who really and truly loved me. OK I'm crying now. It's why I'm doing this, going through all this...because I believe it is still possible for me. dtesposito - It can be frustrating to have to push a challenge off your list. But, I am glad that you did. Because I am hoping for you to have success with the other goals. That's very insightful to recognize that discouragement in one area has a way of tainting the other areas so they aren't as satisfying as they would otherwise be or even to infect our determination to pursue those other areas, because we are struggling in one area. Thanks for those words of wisdom. angela - that's wonderful that you got the some money for the vintage books! I think the fact that someone else recognized their value makes a difference. You know the dealer will be selling them for more than they paid, so they thought they were worth paying for!!! THAT'S WONDERFUL!!!!! I'm glad too that the crochet magazines will go too. Good job taking advantage of the "lack of emotion". I got rid of some UFOs yesterday. Today I took 3 bags to Goodwill that were in the car, after I had lunch with people from church. I decided that if I am going to keep track of things I prefer a pretty journal to do so than a "whatever" notebook. I figure the $2 is worth it if it gives me added pleasure to this at times very difficult process/journey. So, I decided to claim amnesty on the notebooks that I started. I will just throw them out or donate them. Depending. I have been filling one of these a month. (I receive lots of sticker rewards for my efforts). Perhaps it's silly but, I need all the feel good feelings I can get.
I also read on another part of this site how someone dug a duck pond a couple hours at a time, and finished it. I wonder if that would work for weeding my yard, at least the area around the house. I want to grow something besides weeds. There had been some nice plants, but the goats ate them. One thing that is neat though. I have a yard full of butterflies and native birds. The plants that attract them are in part already here. I just am putting more in around the house. When you come down the road to my house, when you turn the corner (My property starts on the corner) you see yellow butterflies. You don't see them until you get to my property. So I think that's neat anyway.

Angela, more books gone--and getting a little money for them too--the best of both worlds! The vintage stuff is really hard for me to let go of. Buttercup! You are just running around like a roadrunner! Vyaspenguin, if a pretty journal will help you with tracking things, it's worth it. I remember starting school each year and having my brand new notebook even though I still had old notebooks--those new, fresh pages were essential to me feeling like I was having a fresh start in a new year. Whatever works! I did one minor and one "medium" thing from my decluttering list--I straightened out all the bookshelves in my entryway, and I finally went through 2 bags of clothing and shoes that my friend gave me to try on. I'm so NOT a clothing person that I hate trying things on, so I procrastinated for weeks on this--I've told my friend that I don't like most clothing so she should probably not think of me when she's giving things away--she still brings me things occasionally, then I return the things I don't want so she can donate them. Surprisingly, I AM keeping one pair of sweat pants and one fleece-type jacket. The sweat pants are large enough to put on over a pair of jeans in case we get any way below zero weather this year, and the fleece jacket is thick and will fit underneath my large winter coat. So, both items will only be used if we get REALLY cold this winter. Anyway, the entryway is done now, it looks nice and neat! Diane

Buttercup - I hope the keyboard gets unstuck!!! How frustrating that would be!! dtesposito - great job on getting through a procrastinated task. I recently heard that when you do a task you "hate" doing that you feel great for having accomplished it so and on the bookshelf to make the entryway nice and neat!!!!! And I agree, Diane, that there is something about a new notebook with fresh clean pages to fill, helps to give you that "fresh new start" feeling. I like having that every month. It gives me incentive to fill the new book. I decided that is a wonderful thing. And decided to get rid of entire notebooks of sermon note. I write them to help internalize them, they also contain written affirmations. I decided that instead of rewriting them into a nicer notebook, which would take hours (I did some already), that I would release them. I decided to pretend that they had been left in the rain, and were otherwise damaged. But it worked. I got rid of a few perfectly good things this way, by that I mean there were some blank pages at the end of the book. And I got rid of a pad made from scrap paper. I filled a big black garbage bag. I think I will continue and empty the rest of the bin of notebooks the same way. Maybe the magic from the amnesty fairy will extend to the rest of the bin and is actually now on the house. So I can just get rid of other things as well. I hope so. I would like to have the room decluttered so it doesn't keep draining my energy. Which makes the littlest anti-procrastination steps seem monumental...

Vyaspigeon, I just realized I called you by your old name in my post--sorry!
Today I bought 2 plastic garbage cans just the right height to fit under my sink, they'll look a lot neater than the mess of dirty rags and miscellaneous under-sink stuff that is visible right now. I hope that I can start the process of cleaning out under there, maybe tomorrow. It's going to be a big job with lots of crawling around washing the floor and walls and pipes--this is the area that has an open section that I wanted to cover up, so once I get under there I know I'm going to want to figure out how to cover that space up too. I don't know if this is something that can be done in baby steps, which would be preferable, since it's not going to be fun job. I'll see.
