Diane, I'm now thinking about just doing everything BUT the ceiling and just letting it go for a while. The weather has been so rainy and humid that the Kilz smell would really be bad anyway. This morning the pain seems to be moving down my leg muscles, maybe that is a good thing.

Diane, I strained my hip hopping up and down on a chair trying to texture my ceiling 5 weeks ago today. The doctor says that I have bursitis and next Friday he will put a shot in my hip. He would not do it last week since my poison ivy was so bad that I had to have a steroid shot for that. I have had three sessions with my chiropractor, many liniment rubs, several days in bed, etc. It is not healing so the shot is the last resort for me. I will not be finishing my ceiling for quite some time, but I can do a few other things in the kitchen without climbing. I can barely stand long enough to cook a meal. The pain is wearing me down.

Thanks for the hug Sidestep. I don't have the sharp pain in my hip this morning, just sore thigh and calf muscles. I've done my dishes, made the bed and put away some clothes with rest in between. I want to do more in the house, but I'm really afraid at this stage that I will re-injure it again. I'm beginning to have a little hope for recovery though.

Glad to hear this--so don't overdo anything! (I know, easier said than done.)
Stretching is done--Sparkle, have you started your evening stretches yet? Have you done stretching before, so that you know which exercises help you? If you have a stiff neck, I can recommend the "cat" one--it helps my neck more than the "neck exercises" do!
I'm hoping that by Monday I can start something else for this challenge, I'll have a little less outside work by Monday or Tuesday.

Magda, nice to see you here again, I love how you've broken the gardening down into smaller steps--one smaller step always seems easier and it feels good to check it off the list!

This evening I was just about ready to go to bed and remembered my stretching! So I did it, even though I really didn't feel like it. I MUST do it earlier in the day, or else I'm never going to get into the habit--leaving it til the end of the day is asking for failure. I'll have to work on this!

Hi again! Thanks for starting the thread, dtesposito. Now that the weather has cooled down enough to make my brain function again (and my laptop is no longer howling after only ten minutes of work) I'm able to post a small challenge for me. Diane's and sidestep's posts have made me aware of my piles which are so much part of the scenery that I almost don't see them any longer. Usually I need access to them all the time, several times a day, and I don't have drawers near my desk (no chance to help that). Now they live on the extension of my desk (aka bed), but I guess I could find them a home in the shelving unit. This morning I went through the largest pile, tossed some papers and filed others which had already been processed.

OK - my goal is a birthday party on 8/28 or 8/29. I have an overwhelming amount of work to do I wonder if listing it out would help or hurt?
By early august I want the LR and DR rugs out to get cleaned. so that cuts my time down drastically.

Hello flotsam and ohblondie! Flotsam, I'm trying to catch up on basic decluttering and cleaning so I can spend some time just walking into a room and trying to see if with the eyes of someone who's never been in it before. Until I do that, I just don't notice the little things creeping up until they become big piles. I know this will involve some purging of storage space to make room for the "work in progress".
Ohblondie, I think you should try to list the work and then divide it by the number of weeks you have--that way you'll know all along if you're on track or not, rather than realizing the week before that you left too much to the end. If you think about the logical order to do the work and list it that way, you'll also benefit by not having to figure that out as you go along. Did you ever completely finish the patio door project?
So yesterday I was very pleased to do my stretching in the middle of the day, but then I forgot to come here and list it last night! I'm home in the middle of the day today, too, so will try to get it done early again. I also washed half of the set of blinds in the kitchen, and was amazed and a little embarrassed by how filthy they were on the side facing out. Luckily they mostly face onto a brick wall, but there are neighbors' porches a little to the side, I hope they didn't look as bad from there as they did close up. Oh well, they'll be clean now--I'm hoping to finish the other half today.
How is everyone doing?
Diane

This was not my original goal, but with my mum's help we have destroyed a hump behind the front door that limited the door opening. Now you can open them wide and so easily that I do not remember being able to do it in more than a decade. Yes, there is a hole there now, but you can open the door!

I'll start with just one goal and see what unfolds from that. Get The Barn Cleared Out - carried over - assessment scheduled for July 8th from a hoarding cleanup specialist. My nephew gave me the money and from all I've learned here I can let go of stuff now. I hope they aren't prohibitively expensive. I can't do it by myself. Good Luck Tomorrow, Sparkle!

so I can spend some time just walking into a room and trying to see if with the eyes of someone who's never been in it before. Until I do that, I just don't notice the little things creeping up until they become big piles. I tried this approach before. When I come as a stranger into my room and ask: "Who lives there?", there's an immediate answer: a student. And in my opinion it's normal for a student to have paper piles on the bed. Well, I'm no longer a student, but as I need a lot of paper for my job, it's not easy to get rid of the college look of my room. I'm working on it.

Interesting point, flotsam. I wonder what people think entering my room. There is a weird mixture of old and new...
