Yesterday I was trying to figure out how long it took me to do things on my list. I'm trying now to remember - but the first self care bit took almost an hour - that included my exercise (that was only 10 min that time), cooling down while reading the Bible, then shower and dress, right to earrings. The next batch I did daily stuff, started with dishes, worked through every room doing the dailies, and ended with finishing up the dishes and kitchen cleaning. That took 38 minutes. Then I got to weeklies. I decided then to work in 20 minute stints - at the end of 20 min I tend to need a short break. First 20 I got the LR and DR tidying done, windexed and dusted. I stopped for lunch, my 1st meal. It was past 12. After lunch my stomach started 'acting up' which delayed any work for a bit. Then I eventually restarted but forgot to time it, but it took way over 20 min. I vacuumed the kitchen and the DR, and edges of the LR and the bathroom. Got out the canister vac and with the mini-power head I vac'd the LR couch, including the cushions and under them and switched them around. I also took it to the area rug. Then I mopped the kitchen, entrance and bathroom, which were overdue. By that time it felt like I had spent all day cleaning. And I hadn't even gotten into the project part of the list. And on which I had probably posted too many things. I'm trying to work out a nice plan, where I'm on top of things, but not spending the whole day cleaning. Now I did do a few extras in the LR with the mini-power head but it was really needed. But in reality I cleaned most of the top of the apt. I want to get back into doing crafts. I know the time spent on exercising etc is a lot but it is needed. For me! But I don't want to spend all day cleaning. So I think I have come up with a suitable compromise. I will set aside days. I think that if I knew I had 2 days to spend on projects, and not worry about other cleaning I would get more done, have a time limit, a shorter list, and know when to clean up instead of having things lingering all week. Then 2 days to get 'other' things done - things other than cleaning - and then just do the cleaning over 2 days. One of my 'others' will be paperwork. So I can tend to a few of these overdue items then too, instead of waiting until the next project time in Oct. Maybe I can even forget them as part of a project. (And maybe part of my problem too was that I have not really done any planned projects or deep cleaning for a while, so I wanted to get too much done at once.) So my newest weekly plan is: Mon and Tues - Zone time - projects or deep cleaning Wed - groceries and errands Thurs - laundry, paperwork, maybe some cooking Fri - clean the front of the apt Sat - clean the back of the apt Sun - look after plants, balcony, pamper me, relax I will see how doable that is now. Except today I am 'confused' and I don't know what to do re this paperwork. 1st - its grocery day but I don't need many groceries or errands at this point. 2nd - its finally cooler, could be a good day to go on that overdue cemetery visit - but I think they are calling for thunderstorms, and I don't want to drive out, 1 hour each way, in heavy rain. Tomorrow is paperwork day along with laundry so I could do a bit then. Or today. Or I could do Sat's work today and hope that it might be a good day to go out to the cemetery. Well Friday's work is already done too. So - do I spend today (Wed) on projects? Or do I really need groceries? Therefore - my lists might be a little mixed up this week. But I am hoping they will get shorter. Maybe I will post today's list for the rest of the week, and then just delete what I did as the week progresses, and then start fresh next week. I would also like to try to do as many dailies as I can between coffee 1 and 2 in the AM. Because I try to keep the birds quiet as long as I can, I will delay their care until after they are up, and I always leave the bathroom until after my shower.

Friday Aug 19/16 I'm whittling away at this list although it might not seem like it. If the weather behaves I still plan to go out to the cemetery tomorrow. On my grocery list I only had 2 items. Instead of going to the store I decided to purchase them at the corner store yesterday. Meanwhile I have used up most of my fresh produce, so I think today I will walk down to the farmers market. Project O is ready to mail, so I will do that on the way. Also upon thinking re other projects, I realize I can probably do a couple on errand day next Wed, so I am working up to that. I can do 3 things in roughly the same area as well as get groceries. I am almost finished the paperwork for the week, so today I can do that, finish up a few other things, and decide if I want to do 1 more load of laundry (darks) - or can it wait until next week. The list: ME: Weigh and record Exercise: Apple Shape Workout Plan Wk 2 Day 5 - Fat Burning Flat Belly Fusion (22 min) ADD: walked 1 mile Read Bible Shower, dress, makeup Log meals into MyFitnessPal Time reading outside (evening or early AM only, weather permitting) DAILY: Early: - Circle tour (tidy) - Catch up dishes - Wipe down kitchen counters, sink, stove top - Make bed - Empty drainage pail from ac unit Later: - Bird care - Vac around bird cage - Swish and swipe bathroom - Toss garbage - Water plants Declutter some emails TWICE A WEEK (Tues and Fri): Clean bird cage PM - face care - foot care - soak some dishes for morning ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ WEDNESDAY'S TASKS: Groceries and Errands Market? - make list - shop - put items away THURSDAY'S TASKS: Paperwork - collect loose papers - sort, toss, file - update Budget Book - file papers - deal with overdue paperwork - shred papers as needed LAUNDRY: one more load? - wash - dry - put away COOK SOMETHING for days ahead - hunt recipe if needed - cook - clean up FRIDAY'S TASKS: Clean bird cage Clean front of apt - LR DR Kitchen Entrance - wipe down microwave ? Saturday August 20/ 16 I'm up early - which is normal for me - but today I want to get on the road early. Today I want to finally get out to the cemetery. I like to do this 4-5 times a year. I will put out the fallish (creams and pale gold) headstone saddle - and commemorate my mother's birthday 2 weeks ago. Those were also her favourite colours. Once I get home I'd like to finish up on the paperwork project. Tomorrow I will start a new challenge - although a few of these items will carry over to errands next week. If I can fit them all in. This is really good as some of these things have been on my to do list for well over a year. Starting tomorrow I would also like to try to condense some of my lists. Some things, like dailies, are routine so don't need a full line on the list. I will save that for new habits I am trying to develop. One new habit is soaking the dishes at night - it doesn't take a lot of time when I am weary, but it shortens the chores in the morning - plus with dishes soaking in 1 sink, and soapy water in casserole dishes or pots, I no longer have all of the counters covered in dirty dishes etc in the AM. Such a big difference for such a little task. Another - and this is all about building habits - is I make myself exercise BEFORE supper. This does mean I need a protein snack around 3 or 4 PM. But what I started doing was doing my daily Bible reading during the cool down time afterwards. I used to struggle to do it in the AM before I started my day - but then I was lost after exercising in the cool down phase where I don't feel like moving. This way it just seems like a better use of time, and I give myself more time in the AM. Ideally I would like to have all of my housework type chores done by noon. Lately I have been able to get the dailies and weeklies done by noon - then the projects or extra tasks have to be after my brunch. (I don't eat breakfast in the AM, but I normally eat breakfast foods when I eat after 12.) Next week I plan to do weeklies some days and projects some days etc - so that I can concentrate on what's at hand and not leave important things until after lunch as I start to lose energy. I hope this works. So today I really just want to tie up the loose ends from the week. And tomorrow is mainly a quiet day and a planning day. The list: ME: Weigh and record Exercise: Apple Shape Workout Plan Wk 2 Day 6 - Cardio Mat Fusion #1 Read Bible Shower, dress, makeup Log meals into MyFitnessPal Time reading outside (evening or early AM only, weather permitting) DAILY: Early: - Circle tour (tidy) - Catch up dishes - Wipe down kitchen counters, sink, stove top - Make bed - Empty drainage pail from ac unit Later: - Bird care - Vac around bird cage - Swish and swipe bathroom - Toss garbage - Water plants Declutter some emails TWICE A WEEK (Tues and Fri): Clean bird cage PM - face care - foot care - soak some dishes for morning ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ TODAY'S TASKS: - visit cemetery (1 hour out of town) FINISH UP: Paperwork - collect loose papers - sort, toss, file - update Budget Book - file papers - deal with overdue paperwork - shred papers as needed Cook something - cook just cooked a frozen veggie lasagna - clean up Kitchen - wipe down microwave Other - move GWTW lamp to bedroom Pamper Me - clip nails - polish nails ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ CHALLENGE FOR WEEK: AUGUST - PROJECTS Week 3 - Aug 14-20 - Zone 3 - Spare Room, Papers, Books, Tapes - tidy up books in book shelves - put aside books to donate (set aside a shelf for books to donate, since I'm reading series before I donate - would be good for all to go into 1 book box - overdue paper project T ADD: mail project T ready to mail - maybe overdue paper project L (can't do L until H is done!) - start tossing tapes - sort out drawer contents in vanity - drawers 1 2 3 and 4 ERRANDS RELATED TO CHALLENGE For Wed Aug 24 - look after project B - look after project TL, if time - hair cut For Thurs Aug 25 - appt booked for project H - prepare paperwork ahead LEFTOVER: Week 1 - Aug 1-6 - Zone 1 - LR, entrance, coat closet, balcony, locker, car - car wash?

Sunday August 21/ 16 Over the past week I made a big dent in overdue paperwork. I have planned a couple of errands and appointments this week to deal with more of it. I'm really loving the fact that I put projects down for my monthly activities in addition to deep cleaning. I guess this is my missing link! Once August is over I won't be returning to projects until Oct., so for the remainder there is still a bit more that I want to get done. I have been reading more on The Vivienne Files and on capsule wardrobes, and I know my closets (and drawers) are still not where I want them to be. Related to that is make-up and jewelry. For my project plans I have decided not to concentrate on rooms, but types of items. I call the clothing part 'personal' because it relates to all of my own personal items which may or may not be stored in my bedroom. Since the spare room is now not home to my birds, I am back to using the vanity in there for my makeup etc, since I can see into that mirror better and it's got the 3 mirrors so you can see side views, and floor length as well, so it's best to store my makeup in there etc. So that is how this week is going to go. And since this is 'personal' week, I will get my hair cut etc too. The other change will be that I am going to try devoting 2 days of the week to projects, instead of trying to make time in the afternoon when I am tired. I don't know yet if this is a good plan or not - I want to do it Mon and Tues - then I can do any errands related to it on Wed. But I will also have a 'time' to put it all away (Tues) - unless the task is very simple to carry over. For this upcoming week I have several errand tasks carried over from last week - but because I have an errand day I can do them then. They were not ready by last errand day. (And this one I may not have time to fit them all in, but I will try.) So those are the canges I am going to implement this week, plus I am going to try to reduce the lists for routine daily items, unless its a new habit that I am still working on. In addition, I am thinking of reviving my old blog - just because it's in the private area, and may move my lists over there. After all, that is where I got started - and had lists on it back then. But, for today: The list: ME: Daily self care: shower, dress, makeup etc Diet: weighing, logging calories Exercise: Apple Shape Workout Plan Wk 2 Day 7 - Active rest day - do Waistline Work Bible read Relaxing: reading or crafts PM: - face care - foot care DAILY: Front of apt: dishes, counters, birds, tidy, vac'ing, garbage Back of apt: bed, bathroom, tidy Empty ac drainage basins Water plants PM: Soak dishes Declutter some emails TWICE A WEEK: Clean bird cage (Tues, Fri) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SUNDAY'S TASKS: MEGA-tidy - Kitchen - LR/ DR - Entrance and hall - Bedroom - Spare Room - Bathroom Balcony - deadhead plants - fertilize geraniums and tomatoes - sweep if needed Pamper Me - clip nails - manicure - pedicure - start a craft project ADD: walk to corner store for bread and milk FINISH UP: Paperwork - shred papers as needed Kitchen - wipe down microwave Other - move GWTW lamp to bedroom ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ CHALLENGE FOR WEEK: AUGUST - PROJECTS Week 4 - Aug 21-27 Personal: clothes, jewelry, make-up, toiletries, exercise items - continue to arrange clothing in closets - re-arrange drawers of nightwear, underwear, exercise items - sort out make-up, nail polishes - clear out vanity drawers ADD: wipe out 4 vanity drawers with a wet cloth - move all makeup to spare room vanity drawers - go through toiletries and add needed items to grocery list - if time, start sorting jewelry LEFTOVER: From Week 3 - Aug 14-20 - Zone 3 - Spare Room, Papers, Books, Tapes - mail Project T - part 1 - find papers for Project T part 2, and deal with them - bring up book box from locker and start box for book donations - tidy up remaining books in book shelves - start tossing tapes ERRANDS RELATED TO CHALLENGE For Wed Aug 24 - look after project B - look after project TL, if time - hair cut For Thurs Aug 25 - appt booked for project H - prepare paperwork ahead Once Project H completed, do project L LEFTOVER: Week 1 - Aug 1-6 - Zone 1 - LR, entrance, coat closet, balcony, locker, car - car wash?

Mon Aug 22/ 16 Well today starts my new plan - where I will spend the next 2 days working on projects only. And for this week the projects are right back at reorganizing clothes, and closets. Plus I would like to get into my makeup things and jewelry also. Yesterday I cleared out and wiped out the 4 small drawers in the spare room vanity. (I think I need a different name than spare room.) I bought little 'tubs' and will be containing my makeup things and polish in them in those drawers. So I have a sort of plan in my head, so I will see how it goes. I'm just going to work on that part on paper. Today I start week 3 of the Apple Shape Workout. I did the waistline Work yesterday - and I saw Sat and Sun how weak I am in the abs. I think it would really help me if I spent extra time daily working on strengthening that. I found 2 exercises that work on doing 'the hundred', which has always been my nemesis - but really is a good exercise. One is a longer Pilates one using a stretch band (by Jessica Smith as well). I'd like to get more exercising in, but there is always the time thing. In addition, I'm not walking as much, so not burning more calories. Maybe I should try alternating my walks with the Pilates thing in addition to the Apple Shape workout (?). The list: ME: Daily self care: shower, dress, makeup etc Diet: weighing, logging calories Exercise: Apple Shape Workout Plan Wk 3 Day 1 - Active rest day - The Apple Shape Workout Extra Exercise: 1 mile express walk video Bible read Relaxing: reading or crafts PM: - face care - foot care DAILY: Front of apt: dishes, counters, birds, tidy, vac'ing, garbage Back of apt: bed, bathroom, tidy Empty ac drainage basins Water plants PM: Soak dishes Declutter some emails TWICE A WEEK: Clean bird cage (Tues, Fri) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ MONDAY'S TASK: Day 1 of This Week's Project: Clothes, Make- Up Work on closets, rearrange clothes Wash containers for vanity drawers Sort out make up, nail polishes nail polishes only Move to new containers Leftover from SUNDAY'S TASKS: Balcony - deadhead plants - fertilize geraniums and tomatoes - sweep if needed Pamper Me - start a craft project FINISH UP: Paperwork - shred papers as needed ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ CHALLENGE FOR WEEK: AUGUST - PROJECTS Week 4 - Aug 21-27 Personal: clothes, jewelry, make-up, toiletries, exercise items - continue to arrange clothing in closets - re-arrange drawers of nightwear, underwear, exercise items - sort out make-up, nail polishes - clear out vanity drawers - move all makeup to spare room vanity drawers - go through toiletries and add needed items to grocery list - if time, start sorting jewelry LEFTOVER: From Week 3 - Aug 14-20 - Zone 3 - Spare Room, Papers, Books, Tapes - find papers for Project T part 2, and deal with them - start box for book donations - tidy up remaining books in book shelves - start tossing tapes ERRANDS RELATED TO last week's CHALLENGE For Wed Aug 24 - look after project B - look after project TL, if time - hair cut For Thurs Aug 25 - appt booked for project H - prepare paperwork ahead Once Project H completed, do project L LEFTOVER: Week 1 - Aug 1-6 - Zone 1 - LR, entrance, coat closet, balcony, locker, car - car wash?

I have decided to start putting my lists back into my blog 'happenings at hollyhock's'. I like the privacy there better.
So I just updated my blog, and then copied this list over there. I will resume there in the future.

Today is the 1st Day of 2017.
I have been rethinking my long term plans for cleaning my apartment. I wasn't sure where to post my thoughts - but maybe this thread is the best place. Of course, my plans always seem to change - so I am really hoping to stick with some semblance of this.
Some time in Oct or Nov, G, my ddil's mom, introduced me to waterfit - and I love it! She rarely makes it any more, but I have been going mostly 2, sometimes 3 times a week. It's not only good for me physically, but I have met some very nice people, so it's good socially as well. I know in the past I have struggled with having a reason to even leave my apartment - that didn't include spending money - and now I have it. And it's extremely affordable. I was buying monthly memberships, but as a Christmas gift to me, I bought a yearly membership - which gives me 2 free months. I can use it in any rec centre in the city, as many times a week as I want.
I'm hoping in 2017, to up my times to 4 times a week, M and F at the B rec centre at 11 AM, and T and Th at the R centre at 2. (Note that these days are alternate days.) The R centre has very low attendance - often as low as 8. One member J, who goes to both centres says she makes sure she attends R just to keep their numbers up so they won't close. Initially I had considered taking Th off of waterfit - but after that, I thought I might join their cause too. The classes are 45 minutes, 15 more minutes to change and then travelling time, so it takes a chunk of time out of the middle of the day. And although it doesn't look or feel like much when you are doing the exercising, it does burn a fair amount of calories - and so afterwards I don't want to do too much like getting groceries etc.
Anyway, looking at this planned schedule, it suddenly occurred to me that one of my cleaning plans, of alternating cleaning the front and the back of the apartment, could fit in nicely with this waterfit schedule.
In a nutshell: Waterfit 11 AM M and F - clean front of apt, before or after waterfit, about 15 minutes a day. Probably Mon kitchen, and Fri floors. Wed is also front of apt but a non-waterfit day - that will be grocery and errand day, and dusting.
Waterfit 2 PM T and Th - clean back of apt. - plus that would allow me to get laundry done those days before I go. So Tues change and wash sheets and towels, dust, Thurs I launder clothes, and vac. I already try to vac the spare room (bird room) daily, so it's not a lot more added on. Saturday is a non-waterfit day, and so I clean the bathroom, and any catch up. And get in any more groceries if needed.
Sunday is a day to relax, maybe pamper me, and attend to my balcony plants in the summer.
So all of this, except for laundry and groceries, should only take about 15 minutes a day. I think I will add paperwork to Mondays, so that might be another 15 minutes.
Working with the front and back of apt ideas - it also works with the dailies. The front of the apt is the LR DR kitchen, and entrance. If I could get into the habit of doing the dishes, and tidying the front before bed, then those dailies are done then! In the AM I can concentrate on the back of the apt - bedroom, spare room (birds) bathroom and hall. So make bed, swish and swipe bathroom, quick vac bird room and put away anything out of place. If I can keep those up, then the weekly chores will happen easily.
Then we move on to the deep cleaning chores, or other projects. I used to try to figure out how to fit deep cleaning into 2, sometimes 3 times a year - but, is it really necessary that often? Our forebearers only did it in the spring - so why do I feel like I need to do it more often? A few things need attention less than weekly and more than yearly (monthly or seasonally) but not everything.
So I am trying to set up a broad cleaning plan. So far I haven't figured out the whole year yet - but I want to break things down too. There are a few big projects that might need yearly attention. In the past I tried to work in my clothes, etc, along with cleaning my bedroom. I ended up trying to do too much at once, and I'd burn out. So right now, what is on my mind, is to do clothes 1 month, then the room the next - since I'm not trying to fit the room into several times a year.
So my plan for going into January is: Clothes The clothes are stored in 3 places - current clothes in bedroom closet, out of season in spare room closet - and then things like pj's, underwear, and exercise stuff in drawers. Hmmmm - a week each? BUT FIRST - always a but - I still have Christmas decorations out. So, devote week 1 to putting decorations away - which will include a bit of locker and storage closet sorting while I figure out where everything will go.
In addition - while I work on the clothes - which aren't bad since I went through them recently - I will remove them from the closet(s) and clean out the closets as well. So I have a full week for each closet and the clothes in it. That sounds fair. 1 week bedroom closet, another week spare room closet, and week 4, the bedroom drawers that contain clothes.
Then in February I will clean the REST of the bedroom - and that will be much easier than I was doing in the past - that will be mostly the things along each wall - 1 wall a week. Because 1 wall has both of my big dressers on it, I won't need to worry about the clothing in them now.
In March I plan to move on to paperwork. That is mostly in the spare bedroom. First week get taxes out. Then 3 weeks to work on sorting the papers in totes in there (mostly memorabilia), and the stationary contents of 1 dresser.
Then in April I can work on the spare room itself, again 1 wall a week. Since 1 wall is mainly bookcases, that will be done in 1 week. And again, the closet (except the paperwork stuff) has been done in Jan., so no need to do again.
By May, it's nice weather, so I will start by cleaning the balcony. I'm not sure how I will proceed from there, but most of the back of the apt is done. Maybe I will combine the bathroom, and linen and broom closets with the balcony. Then the last half of the year can be the LR DR and kitchen and storage closet, which is mainly Christmas stuff and kitchen stuff. But this all sounds doable, without driving myself crazy. I don't want to do too much in the heat of the summer, so that might just be a good time to work through hobby stuff and knickknacks.
So having said all of this - I will repeat that the project for January week 1 is to take down and put away the Christmas decorations, tidying and /or reorganizing the storage locker and storage closet (in my apt.) as needed as I go. I'm hoping projects will take me less than 30 minutes a day - and be such that it doesn't leave a big mess by the end of the day.

Thanks Arid for the vote on confidence. I think so too. Pretty easy - and easy to remember.

In the past I have tried to keep track of my cleaning tasks in my bullet journal, but I think I made it too complicated (which I always tend to do). I have a page I already track my exercise, and calories and wt etc, that I have been able to carry over for the past 9 months. I also do the same to keep track of my daily Bible readings. But so far that is all.
I have started a new bullet journal for 2017 - nothing fancy - basically a spiral-bound notebook, with graph paper as the sheets, and I use 2 pages to do a month - along the top it is dated 1-15 for the first part of the month, and the facing page has dates 16- 28/30/31 whatever is needed. Then down the side I put whatever it is that I am monitoring.
So I decided to try again with the cleaning tasks - but hopefully simpler this time. I just decided to go by the front of the apt again, and the back. That includes dailies as well. A blank means I did nothing, a full X means I completed it, and a part X (/) means I only partly did it.
So here is the current categories I set up:
FRONT OF APT.: Dailies PM Water plants Kitchen Dust Vac Mop Paperwork Groceries
BACK OF APT.: Dailies AM Clean bird cage Change linens Bathroom Dust Vac Mop
LAUNDRY: - whites/ lights - darks - coloured - linens - pool stuff - other
DEEP CLEANING or PROJECT of the week:
I will be making up another schedule/ page to track the actual deep cleaning or project tasks - this one only tracks that I put in time on it.

I forgot to add that on the page, I put a line down the grid after every Saturday - that way I can more easily monitor what I did that week just by looking.
