WTG Unswamping on facing that mail and dealing with it right away, and getting the paper and desk stuff done! wooo hoooo! I have not done all else on my list. My big hindrance is that I am going to make freezer pesto and my freezer is chock full of stuff so I have to empty some of that out first (which will mean tossing old freezer-burned or ancient meats and other foods). I have to also clear out the fridge so the fruit will fit in there. The tomatoes can't go in there so I'm not sure how to keep the fruit flies off of them. Will probably have to do give-away with those. I just got home from a live TV showing magic show done by a local 15 yr old magician - on that show "fool me" - it was at the local movie theater. (nobody on the show fooled them but the kid did great; they all were good!) Now, back to work. Looks as though i'm gonna be up for quite awhile, like it or not. I want to process that basil tonight!

Re-posting yesterday's list and adding to it. I'm paying my friend to help me this afternoon at the storage unit, so I have lots to do before i can leave here and meet him.
Done - write an invoice for work trade and call the person. - DO THIS FIRST> RIGHT NOW! JUST DO IT! done - empty the fridge of old rotten food done - make room in freezer, toss old stuff and empty ice cube trays to make room for pesto PESTO: it's going on two days that this basil has been sitting around the kitchen! Must face the fear and do it anyway. done - cut off all stems of basil to prepare for pesto done - gather containers and label done - peel garlic done - squeeze lemons for juice done - gather walnuts into a container done - melt butter done - add olive oil to butter done - gather cling wrap to put into containers to keep air out while it's freezing done - make pesto in food processor done - pour into containers done - put into freezer done - rinse out food processor and parts (wash later)
The list above HAS to be done before anything else. My back is out this morning, yesterday too. It may be the cooler weather or the fact that i am not doing much garden work, and now am stiffening up.
write up an action plan for the apartment (inspection again on 15th - different guy this time. don't know what he will be looking for but I want things looking OK and not piles everywhere.) deal with the fruit fly situation deal with the fruit and tomatoes sitting out, attracting MORe fruit flies done - pay rent done - pay internet - paid for 2 months pay electric before the 5th - checked my bill - i have credit from paying ahead. may pay more to keep ahead

cc: Try this simple fruit fly trap:
In a shallow bowl, mix together about a cup of water, 1/4 C. cider vinegar, and a TBSP. of sugar.
Drop 2 drops of lemon-scented dishwashing liquid on top.
Leave out on the counter uncovered.
The fruit flies will be attracted to the liquid, and you soon will have a bowlful of dead fruit flies!
When the bowl gets disgustingly full, discard the liquid, and make up a new batch.
Good luck!
Arid

Do you know about the apple cider vinegar in a jar trick creativechaos just put one or two drops of dish soap in there too. The vinegar smells like fruit to them, they land and the it's curtains for them. You can count how many you get everyday.

hiya mynicehome, Arid, Unswamping, and def6 - thanks for all the encouragement and thanks, def and unswampy for joining in with a few challenges of your own. Arid, I just wrote down that fruit fly death trap formula and can't wait to try it! Thanks! you too, def6. It's all out war with those guys right now since it's harvest time... happens every year. My housekeeping doesn't help the situation. just got home from storage. i feel pretty spent. My friend mostly encouraged and amused me and the energy was light and fun - he tried to encourage me to throw things out but i didn't release much. I sorted like with like and have some projects organized now so I know where things are. All helpful if I want to work on the upcoming art show at the bank in October. All I released was a bag of trash and some broken down boxes. Put some things aside for yard sale or donate too. Filled one small box with broken ceramics that i will NOT use for mosaic. We created slightly wider goat trails in big unit on one side, and cleared one of my work tables about 2/3 of the way. Underneath that table and all work spaces, besides massive piles of stuff everywhere, is still FULL of stuff - so I can't actually sit down at the table yet. but i hope to have a work space in there very soon; within a week or two... I can then work on some mosaics again, which is very exciting to think about. I felt that our time together was fruitful. He is going to help me next Thursday too. We are thinking of having a joint yard sale sometime this month too. I wanted to do that this weekend but I'm just not ready. I may just go ahead and put what I have set aside for releasing onto tables, and hope someone will take some of it away! I still have tons of gardening to catch up on in my own garden. Thinking about what I'd like to accomplish the rest of this day and evening. My back is really hurting but I feel I need to keep at things. Will make another list later.

Hello creativechaos I am super excited to hear about what you are doing in the storage unit. I think I'll read your post a few more times before I go out to my garage to make room to park my van this Saturday. My garage is filled up to the gills but there are many things out there that I have already made a mental note on to go. I got a Femorial hernia last time I got serious out there. Dr said I could blow out my other side if I didn't mind. I'll just have to watch myself.

def6 - NO hernias allowed!!!! be gentle with yourself and get help with heavy stuff! being older and with a bad back, what i do now is bring a lot of smaller boxes and tubs to the scene, and pull things out of the big heavy boxes and tubs and load into smaller, easier to lift containers. the stuff i'm keeping or unsure, i sort like with like, and mark and label those so i know what i have. i find, for me, this helps me release more later. it takes more time, but i don't hurt myself as much that way. i have not actually got RID of much at all except for several boxes and some trash! if i could get rid of a few boxes a week i would be ecstatic. hoping that consistent work will help me reduce the amount in there, and here at home.

def6 definetely take care of yourself, no more hernias. I like creativechaos idea of putting stuff into smaller, more manageable boxes. creativechaos you did great! Dont shortchange yourself. It didnt accumulate in a day and its not going to go away in a day. Just keep chipping away at it, like my little guy.

This is an awesome thread! I find the other working threads can be a little overwhelming. Seeing that people are achieving full household chores when I am hopeful just to put something in the bin or clean one plate! Or I see that someone has hoovered the whole living room floor, when I can't even SEE mine! I usually get demoralised and give up. So I think this thread suits me totally! Washing load sorted DD packed off to Grandma's for the day. 1 bag of recycling collected and put out in recycling bin. 1 bag of rubbish collected and put out in rubbish bin. Neighbours interrogated to find out which one reported me to the landlord for the garden being overgrown. Found out who it was! Made said neighbour feel guilty! Guilty neighbour has voluteered her grandsons to help sort out my overgrown front garden! (Can't have them do the rear as it would mean them coming in my house!! Do some HE with DS Collect another bag of rubbish and take out. Put away fridge items from shopping delivery. Clear and clean windowsill. Order new net curtains. (These bottom two are because of having the guys working on my front garden! )

Hi all, nice to see a thread for hoarders/backsliders like me. I haven't done much besides gardening for a few months, so of course things have piled up again in the house and I'm back to dig out. Right now I'm starving. Need to fix lunch.
