thank you larataylor
Today i took advantage of a break in the rain. I weeded around the deck and the walkway in back. Filled half a paper lawn & leaf bag with weeds, plus compost bin is totally full (thats not all from today, i just topped it off then used the bag). Also mowed a teeny bit, just two areas i didnt mow last time. While i had the mower out of the shed, i thought it was good opportunity to get and toss some stuff. I filled half of a 96 gallon trash can with stuff from the shed. The best find was a box labeled "garden cleanout 2009", dont know if its stuff that made it through that pass or stuff i mean to get rid of. Alot of old stuff for things i havent owned in ages. I did take everything out and look at it, which was great. I found the missing strap to my gardening knee pads.

Yesterday I got rid of a large bag of metal/glass/plastic recycling.Just to help take the sting out of getting rid of things, there's a game where you get rid of one item on the first day of the month, find two items on the second day, three on the third and so forth. By the end of the month, there is nearly 500 items gone. I like that game! And you can start it on any day of the month. I might try to get rid of 23 things today. I need to do something!!!

creativechaos that is great work! outfromundah i hope you can find stuff to let go of.
Its trash and recycling day and im working on getting that together. One thing thats already in the recycle bin is the newspaper i picked up on Wednesday. Its a free weekly paper and there was an article i wanted to read on the front page. So i brought it home, read it and put the entire paper in recycle bin. Thats a major victory for me. (Last summer i got rid of newspaper clipping from the 1990s, i tend to be an info hoarder)

So, yesterday I got rid of 48 magazines. And a section of my hometown newspaper from November 1965 that was in the stuff that was passed on to me by my mom. No discernible reason why it was there! This is the kind of thing that drives me bonkers.

In the trash pickup this week, I finally got rid of a very old, large holiday decoration. It was one of those reindeers made out of reeds. Rattan like. This type of decoration is common around here, but most new ones are poorly made. This one was quite old. I had purchased it at a yard sale years ago. But it had become damaged with a very crooked leg and antlers. It would no longer stand on it's own. Last year I put it in the front yard, and had to stake it up to stand straight. To rejuvenate it would have taken time and it never would have looked great. And storing it was always a problem. But I really liked it and did not want to see it go. But it had to. And I had delayed for a very long time. But on Tuesday, out it went. Bye, Bambi! Thank you, I had enjoyed you very much.

I live in an area where you have to pay a bottle deposit, so I'm going to round up all my empties (from POP, people!) and take them back to the store. I'm sure there will be a least two kitchen trash bags full.
I ordered three pairs of waterproof hiking boots from Amazon, and since I have really hard-to-fit feet, none of them really worked out, so I'm dropping them off at UPS so they can go back. Based on what I learned about the fit of this particular brand, I ordered a fourth pair, and I hope to have warm, dry feet when I take my dog out this winter.
This is going to take forever, but I'm trying to sew through my shamefully huge fabric stash. I finished a little quilt that I want to donate to Project Linus, and I'm going to drop it off at the collection point this morning. I'll have to be very disciplined, however---the collection point is located in a really nice quilt shop, and I will have make sure I don't walk out with more fabric than I just used for the donated quilt. (!)

hannah - I also have a fabric stash, and I haven't sewn anything for years. But there is just something about the pretty material... Fortunately I haven't acquired any new stuff for years either. Today I finally went to the landfill and got rid of the electronic waste I'd been collecting. Free drop off. I got rid of: 2 old small tv's 1 ceiling fan 1 old lamp 2 dead microwaves 2 dead fans It's good to have all that space now free.

well, it was sunday but i was so proud of it i'm counting it! i got rid of many garden plants, some potted up already, some were dug by a young gal who came with the offer of "free plants - you dig!" her other young friend carried in some bags of soil and compost for me as i had put my back out of adjustment earlier this week. i can fill in the holes she made digging things out with that.
today i brought about 1/2 a garbage bag to consignment - but i weakened, and got a few things on credit. one is a reversible fleece jacket - one side is a light aqua. it has no pockets - its only flaw. i may look in my scraps and see if i have anything suitable to put on as patch pockets. the light aqua color on the other side would be good if i resume walks at night. i don't have anything light-colored to wear out on the roads at night. the other 2 pieces of clothing i will try on and see. if i don't like them, i don't mind losing the "credit" - back to consignment they will go... or the freebox.

I don't walk at night myself, but I so appreciate being able to see people. Dark-skinned people wearing black can be almost invisible.
I remember walking to school in the dark with reflective armbands on.
I got the trash and recycling to the curb this morning, and I hope metal scrapper will take a lot of the metal I piled up.

There is a pair of shorts I just hated... Hated. They were made from very stiff cotton and because of that were mildly uncomfortable. They did fit however, so surely I must keep and wear them. It was time to wash them again, but instead I decided to toss them. And they are in the trash now. Gone... gone... gone...

That's where the "spark joy" concept is good to keep in your mind. Let's not keep things we hate!

great work on getting rid of the uncomfortable shorts, BetsyMarie! 1) i tossed a pair of sweats into the trash. they were warm, perfectly good, and too small to the point that the elastic was gone and my stomach was so big it kept pushing them down. NOT gonna buy suspenders or be someone with too much "crack" showing (sorry - TMI ) - got sick of "pulling them up" - the geometry of my "figure" is all wrong for these hiphugger sweats! 2) went through my myriad tubes and jars of acrylic paints. i gave about 12 tubes of acrylic paint to a mom to give her dd for her birthday. i had hoped to be more ruthless with the paint but feel happy i got rid of ANY! i can always go through it again. also tossed about 6 -8 tubes of dried up or almost gone tubes. 3) tossed some papers into recycle and took a small amount more to the consignment store late last week, including those items i brought home that just did not work for me what i like about our consignment shop is if they can't use it, someone picks stuff up for goodwill and they will just donate it for me. i'm trying to have more go OUT than comes in, in my revolving door o' stuff. so grateful for this thread.
