I have been keeping my kitchen sink empty. I've been washing as I cook and preparing a hot, sudsy sink of water to slip the dishes into after we eat off of them and scrape them out. For some reason.. I don't like to stand at the sink and scrub hard food off of plates. I have actually boiled a kettle before to boost my ability to get hard food off of there. ( then, making gloves a must) I've been following Fly Lady's Baby steps videos for 23 days with the lady from Copenhagen. On day one ,she washed and sanitized her sink and then dried it with a towel to make it shiny. Everyday after that she has been encouraging everyone to at a minimum get the bits out of the bottom of the sink and dry the sink every evening. I would have considered drying the sink to be overkill for me but it really does shine it. DH commented on it .

My pet hate is dirty dishes in the sink. They have to be taken out before you can fill the sink with hot soapy water. No nice.

So last night I washed my small pile of dishes that was waiting to be done. Then I made popcorn, which has become my regular snack lately, so today I have a few more pieces to do. They are piled on top of my stove because my empty, shiny sink looks so lovely!

Made a late dinner with enough leftovers to last me a day or two. Washed up. Didn't wanna but got it done. Sink clear, surfaces swiped, leftovers in fridge. Just left one pan to soak overnite.

Dishes washed in 4 minutes. I was happy until I looked down at the floor and realized that I had a leak under the sink. I pulled everything out, wiped it down and put the drain back together. I've had two major under the sink cleanouts in the last few years, so this time it wasn't too bad. I just have to let everything dry out before I put it all back.

Washed up after dinner.
I made up a spray bottle for mossies and sandflies. 500ml (2 cups) water, 1/2 tsp teatree oil, squirt of detergent. spray it on self and clothes to keep insects away. I've been spraying a little on the sink when I want to clean the draining board in particular, and it seems to have a good effect.

I have found that keeping my dishes washed, dried and put away.... (Having a clean empty shiny sink) Makes My Day A Happier, More Relaxed Day I feel much better about me, my home, really Everything! (It's not always kept up this way.) But it Is Most of the Time. (Now) Dishes washed and put away And Making my bed Are things I TRY to do - Each and Every Day !
