We have a very long repair list here H2H. I have decided to replace the carpet in the living room and down the hall with new carpeting and replace the linoleum in the kitchen with new linoleum. Doing this will make the house fresh and easy to clean. I want to paint every room except the two children's rooms , they have been painted recently.

Get someone else to do all of your work H2H your talent could be/should be used on a radio talk show or something of the like. You need to go on air: you are smart and witty.

I'm with def6. You've got a skill for writing/communicating. It wasn't a cheerful topic, but the way you wrote it was compelling.
I would recommend finding a handyman who's maybe a retired contractor or something. It's cheaper than a contractor. That's what my aunt is doing with her household repairs. Of course, they won't be bonded like I'm guessing a contractor and their employees would be. So it's kind of a trade-off. But, that's my two cents.

Is there room in the GBR to put some shelves against a non-defective wall for storing the stuff you definitely want to keep?

halfway---My husband used to say,--"catcat, sometimes you win a few,you lose a few." Not sure how this wise saying fits your situation, but it comes to mind-----A shame about your findings about the foundation, the land, etc. I agree, it makes little sense to pretty up the inside or make any non-essential repairs unless you know the situation you face with the foundation.Hopefully, when you get it checked, it will not be in dire shape. I hope it is better than "worser",but I would have it checked soon, so you can solidify your plans & maybe kick your worries to the curb. Good luck. catcat
