I left a cauliflower on my dining room floor for weeks. I don't know why I didn't just pick it up, but I didn't. There was lots of other mess on the floor, so I suppose it didn't stand out. When I finally disposed of it, the sludge had seeped into the floorboards and stained them. Sludgy messes on wipeable surfaces are definitely preferable!
How is it going?

When I finally disposed of it, the sludge had seeped into the floorboards and stained them. Sludgy messes on wipeable surfaces are definitely preferable! How is it going? It's going very slowly. Sleep deprivaation isn't helping, and I just found a huge pile of garbage I'd "hidden" ages ago and forgot about. You'd think there wouldn't be that many hiding places in a small room like this. You'd be wrong. That discovery was disheartening. The bathroom is by and large finished, except the floor will need another going over. But the sludge is removed, finally. I'm cleaning surfaces now, which are all coated in sticky grime. I also seem to have lost an entire grocery bag of cleaning supplies. It's entirely possible I accidentally threw it away. I empathise with the cauliflower event. When I was anemic, my brain moved as slow as my body. If I dropped something I would stare at it forever trying to figure out what I needed to do. Most of the time I just walked away. Okay I can't let the extra garbage get me down. I've taken out ten times as much garbage over the week, I can handle this.

I think we probably have all been our own harshest judges though. I'm determined to stop kicking myself, and reading everyone's posts here is helpful with that.

Update: Desktop and luggage tabletop cleaned. Vinegar and water works wonders on grimy wood. (and my handy scraper). Bedside table is next. That'll be a tough one.

Surfaces done! I'm not sure why that makes me so happy, I guess because they were so awful. And because I can tick it off my list.
Tick!
Now going to bag up the "hidden" garbage, and start picking up the small garbage.

So it's just the last sprint to the finish now. You can do this!
If you just have a couple of hours left, you could just bag up everything that's left to be dealt with later and move it (and anything else that's not rubbish) to your new room. Take all the bags of rubbish out. Now you can look at the empty room and see where you need to focus your cleaning for that last push. Do you need to factor in a nap before you work tonight (the two alarm clocks suggestion made earlier in the thread is good advice)?

I wish I could factor in a nap. I'm so exhausted I want to lie down and quit but I can't do it.
Right now getting more garbage out. After that there is still garbage left. It seems the garbage never ends.

I spoke to my boss and told him flat out this room is horrible and a health hazard. Admitting it is a step I suppose. I'll finish getting the garbage out and do as much as I can before having to get ready for work. I've done a lot but some things I just am not going to be able to do. I really wish I'd asked for help when I was sick, but I didn't know how sick I was. But my boss said the past is the past and we'll do what we can going forward, and I really need to think the same way. I'm ready to maintain my new room.
Thank you everyone for the pep-talks and the cheering. It has helped sooo much. Of course, it's not over yet. I'm still going. But I feel less pressure now. I'm okay with doing my best - it doesn't have to be perfect.
