Last tally - 31 items
2 fall jackets to donations 3 winter scarves to donations * 2 books to donations 3 pair of soot-laden cotton work gloves to trash 1 non-working rechargeable screwdriver to trash
* all donations to this point were dropped at thrift store earlier this week. Working on new box now.
New tally - 11 + 31 = 42 items
Welcome hiding! Good work on all those recyclables! I used to keep empty cans (of anything) for DX who would add them to a load of scrap metal he'd take in to nearest big city every now and then. They mostly rusted while they waited though (and fetched literally pennies only) so I decided that recycling for pickup was the better use of the material.
WTG on all those who've reached 100 items or more!

Welcome, hiding! and I resemble that last remark!
I've given up on trying to stop the flow of clothing in. I have embraced my inner fashionista. So I use all kinds of tricks to keep the equivalent flow of clothes going out--one of the more successful one has been to limit the number of hangers. When I run out of hangers, I have to start using my one-in-one-out rule.
I've also been concentrating on *upgrading* my wardrobe with each new piece. The criteria has slowly gotten stricter and stricter. As I have been becoming more conscious of what I actually have, I think about which one I am going to let go, so can ask "is this one better than the one I already have?"

So, my lovelies, I am going to stop playing, at least until I get to GA, because yesterday I released so much so fast (with a little help from my friends!) I could not count. But probably a couple hundred more things are gone!I did not meet my goal of 2018 things in 18 days, but I know if I had not set my bar so high, I would not have made the progress I did. The last actual count was... <drumroll, please>545 Things!

Latest Recycling, Tossing, Donations Tossed 2 Jar Openers
2018 Cash on Recycling Refunds Running Total $01.20
Total for today 2 Items
Isn't it interesting how many jar opened devices are on the market? I haven't paid much for any of them because I (formerly) went to yard sales and picked them up cheaply. One of the ones I tossed was elaborately designed. Not only did it not work well, it also was quite easy to hurt your finger with it.
I got to feeling sorry for the guy or gal who invented it. There must have been the initial excitement of creating a new product. And then there was all the expense and work of securing a patent and finding a manufacturer. I'm afraid that this item did not sell, at least not beyond the period when it was a novelty.
But then I hope, I like to think, that the inventor comes out with something new every month and some of them sell very well.

I was reading on my favorite fashion blog the other day. In fact, it is the only fashion blog I read because I like the author so much. Anyway she said something that struck a chord. She said that she had been buying extra clothes and make-up to compensate for things in her life that had nothing to do with clothes. She was thinking, albeit not consciously, this new outfit will fix what I think is wrong with me.
I think that is part of my problem, if not all of it. Consumer behavior is complicated. I've certainly read enough books on the subject. And yes, I've donated a lot of clothes and other items lately. But if I don't also stop the inflow, I will always have a problem. No, I don't purchase nearly as much as I used to and I have stopped going to yard sales and thrift shops but I do still buy when I don't need to.
