Hi bree yes flooding is forecasted. At first the temps were supposed to be 57, then 58, then last night the guy said 66 and I couldn't believe it! Flooding won't be awful. Rain is expected but the snowmelt has already started so it won't be as rough as it could have been. I'm so sorry you are experiencing so many deaths in a short period of time.

Ugh ohblondie, furnace trouble is my next big fear after frozen pipes!
I've been trying to work on my fridge seed project but I'm wondering if some of the seed I have is already too old. Seed will germinate even though it's a few years old but do I want to plant up a bunch of it to only have a couple germinate? Maybe I have to buy a couple of packets of seeds. I also took some coleus cuttings from a plant that is out of control, I will get rid of the old plant and root a couple of new ones from the cuttings.
Time to feed the dog and see if she wants to go out.

Good afternoon scholar!
Every time I do the self checkout at Walmart they ask if I want a paper receipt or to receive it by email. Sometimes they want to see your receipt as you walk out the door. I don't have email on my cell phone, and I always wonder what they will say if I get the receipt via email but can't show it to them on my phone. Or better yet, just say I don't have a cell phone. They couldn't stop me from taking my groceries, so is that a way people could scam them? Or is there a way they could take you to a desk and look at your receipt by scanning the credit card you used? What if you paid cash?

Good morning! I'm waiting for the library to open and hoping it won't be raining when I have to go.
The dog woke me up in the middle of the night with what looked to me like restless leg syndrome. This is only the second time I've seen her do this--she's totally awake but will jerk one of her legs out suddenly, like it's involuntary. It lasted about 45 minutes then she fell back to sleep and I did too.

Furnace is working - hurray Meeting was long as we had an executive session after and Iam hoping people's feelings didnt get hurt. Not at anything I said but we had to discuss a contentious issue and people have passion about what they do and what they believe in
Up and at it EARLY today as I had to work with the office attorney on a matter And the person that works for me is making stupid mistakes and I really have to call her out on this esp if I am leaving
I reheated my leftovers from Monday and I turned my back for one minute and Callie absconded with my toast!
OK - time to find a secretary who is in the office today......

Good morning ohblondie, great news about the furnace!
I turned my back for one minute and Callie absconded with my toast
It was drizzling when I walked to the library but very lightly so it was okay. As long as I keep the mail and library books dry, it's fine. It feels SO much warmer today, it's 37 degrees!

The dog wanted to go out about half an hour before I usually feed her--I think she's learned that if it's so close to lunch time I give her lunch a little early.
Next I'm going to repot a plant, and then stop for lunch.

Diane, I want to give a gift to someone with a new office. There is a small reception area with a west-facing window and a separate L-shaped working office with a couple windows, mostly light from the northeast. The person is not great with plants and may not be in the office every day. What would you recommend?
Or maybe no plant? I like them because I feel like a plant softens the atmosphere, helps clean the air and the touch of nature is uplifting. I wanted it to be a surprise but maybe I should ask first? A living thing is a responsibility. Your thoughts?

I defer to Diane as the expert but I think a plant is an awesome gift. Some stores have some realistic looking fake plants....
DH and I managed to get the big recliner out of the house and to the habitat re-store. Jenga can begin

Oh dear the system didn't let me put in your quote about considering receipts at Walmart... ....you've reminded me of a video of the late Queen Elizabeth trying out a self-service till, and the most wonderful grin when she realised the very same that it would be super easy to cheat the system (though these days cameras and weigh scales at the tills mean you have to be able to run fast enough away to get away with a life of crime😁) I always ask for a paper receipt, mainly to check the shop haven't diddled me...

Good morning danny!
Wow, interesting plant question--it depends on which window it will go into, because west has nice light exposure while northeast is weak. I always recommend spider plants to beginners because as long as you water them regularly they usually grow well under varying conditions. They also grow quickly and produce hanging baby plants, which are fun to see. However, hanging plants are a little annoying because it's easy to overwater and have water dripping onto your floor. If there's a big windowsill, you get a drip tray and they can do well there instead of hanging in front of the window. Spider plants do okay with less light but if they're the variegated striped kind, they will turn more green with less light. There are other plants that don't need constant attention too, but for an office you kind of want something larger so it's easily seen. It kind of depends on your source--if you're looking for a plant in a store, your selection will be limited, so it's better to see what's available and then decide. If you want a mail order place, there are more options but shipping something is more expensive.
I, of course, think plants are wonderful gifts!
As far as asking first, I think most people like plants, and if it's an easy care plant, most people don't mind just watering. Your question reminds me of my shopping friend though, who never had a houseplant in her entire life. One time years ago an office mate of hers gifted her a 4 inch high Christmas cactus. Well, you would have thought an infant was left on her doorstep! The next time we went shopping together, my friend gave me the plant, looking agitated and said--the last thing I need is a plant to constantly be worrying about! Please take it! However, I would stress that she is VERY quirky, I highly doubt anyone else would react the same way. Oddly enough, this friend had some cats during her lifetime, they were well cared for, well loved, and lived a long time. So I'm not sure why she had that reaction to caring for a plant!
