SAD
(Seasonal Affective Disorder - undiagnosed for at least 10 years, and combined with other personality traits..."Disorder" certainly sums up the mess and spring/summer never seemed to provide enough compensatory energy or time to completely undo the mess from the previous autumn/winter(s), and in fact increased activity sometimes led to even more mess...)
I didn't post an Introduction, thinking I might later on, but definitely meant to mention the "winter blues" as there must be others...

**Apathy**
I think apathy arises from many different situations, but I think this was a major cause for my squalor.

"Ambivilous"
That's a word coined by someone who used to live with me ... regarding why I was messy.
The person said I was oblivious to my surroundings and ambivalent about committing to cleaning up.
(Ambivalent in the sense of "not caring". NOT in the sense of "being undecided".)
Oblivious + Ambivalent = Ambivilous
Didn't see it ... and didn't care when it was pointed out.
Very accurate.
"Ambivilous".
***********
What word would I choose for myself, as to why I lived in squalor?
Irrelevant
I thought cleaning had no relevance to my lofty philosophical ponderings. No relevance to a "woman of action". No relevance to anything that interested me.

OCD/depression I know that's technically two (well, technically four ) but for me it's all the one reason.

Worry
(or Doubt... Kind of related though not the same thing?? ... Closely linked to Indecision...
Which is ironic, when you notice that I can't even decide on one single word without second guessing myself).
But definitely...
WORRY....

I think I'll change mine from invisibility to protection. Related but different. Hey, if script can do it, so can I!
It's so very sad that I agree with everyone here, however. :*(

What a great thread!
I am going with depression for me and I really think Trauma for Hubby's hoarding
The two add up to our squalor.
