Wow PM you've done so much in there. My garage is the worse mess I've ever seen. I was hoping to do it this summer but the house needed it more. So DD and I decided in the spring we'll rent a dumpster and just go through it in a week. My Raynauds limits me as to what I can do in the cold so it has to wait for the warmer weather. Hopefully I'll have a digital camera by then so I can take pics of the progress with before and afters. SNM

SNM, I think that making the commitment to get it done, and renting the dumpster is a great idea. It's important to go into it with the right mindset. Be prepared to purge things that you've hung on to for years.
What I've learned from doing this "garage project": I'm not a hoarder so I thought it would be easy as pie going in to empty the garage, but it wasn't. On the first day I realized that it wasn't as easy as just renting a dumpster (which I wanted to do too, btw) and shoving everything in. I had to look at every thing and decide on every little thing if it should stay or go. Some things needed a 2nd and 3rd pass before I could decide finally throw them out.
Make rules going in to it. Memorize them. Go over it and stick to your guns. Second BIGGEST MOTIVATORE YET was to have a picture in my mind what I wanted the garage to look like in the end. I had/have a picture of what that garage would have to look like in my perfect world and keep asking myself if keeping item X would help me achieve that vision. If not, then it had to go.
This is a small house, so I would love to have a space for my treadmill, big kids toys, and a big table they can play at with their dollhouse (which was a gift and they hadn't been able to play with in more than 1 year because of the lack of space). And I want it to be safe which mean things like mower and pooper scooper can't just hang around anywhere in there. Tools need to be contained, chemicals out of reach, ...I could go on.
So create a vision that you want, stick to it. Make it happen. Persistence! I thought this would take me 3 days. I'm on day 16, and still have work to do to get to my Vision.

Last update: I'm done! ...with the video that is.
I still have some very minor things I want to get done like take all the christmas stuff out of cardboard boxes and put them into plastic bins (I may do that today), then in a few days I'll send a lot of the old paint and other chemicals to the dump. But I think I have shot the last of my garage pictures to finish the time-lapse video.
I was too exhausted last night to do it, but I'll have it done and uploaded on youtube by tonight. This was such a fun project I think I might do this for other projects!

Strangely addictive to watch. Even with the weirdly quirky music.
I thoroughly enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing.
