So I'm bored with my mundane tasks .. laundry, dishes, laundry, dishes... and I'm looking for some way to make chores in general more exciting. I can't come up with any ideas this time so I figured I would ask.
Do any of you have any strategies that have worked for you?
I have done things like self-challenged, wrote things down on facebook, whatever... but they seem to be failing me right now.

You have to find some fun time too. Its hard when you are so busy - kids, hubby, jobs - but you got to. Kids should do some chores too - shouldn't all fall on mom. Yep cleaning is boring for sure.

To be honest I can't think of any way to make it more exciting....it never has been exciting and never will....however when I am feeling like a robot doing the same old chores day in, day out, the only way I keep going is by keeping my mind on things I am looking forward to....for me that is time doing creative things.

Music, music, music!!!
Sometimes, something with a "peppy" beat can be helpful.
Another thing that I have started doing--admittedly it sounds a little weird and "OCD-ish"--but what is helpful to me is to count things as I work.
For example, I may not have the energy to wash the "Mt. Washme" of dirty dishes, but I can wash ten pieces at a time and make great progress that way.
I might think that I can't fold up another load of white undies without "losing it" and screaming, but I can fold twenty pieces before taking a break to go do something else for a while.
Boy! This really sounds infantile, now that I see it in print, but hey!. . . whatever works. . .!!

Why didn't I think of music? Really must start wearing my ipod while cleaning.

I love watching any "Clean Your House" shows while I work. It's like having company.
I still use the time for contemplation; I never expected to get a handle on my squalor.
For unknown reasons, I also like watching "marathons" of any show that I like. I feel like I'm gorging myself.

Sometimes this will work when I absolutely can't make myself start cleaning--I put on a music CD that I really like, and put my portable player in the hallway between rooms (where I can hear it from all rooms). I start song 1 and clean in a particular room, then when the song changes, I have to stop in that room and start in the next room. It turns into a kind of game, and it's certainly not the most efficient way to clean, but it's distracting enough to make me clean longer than I would otherwise. This works best when you are picking up clutter and doing other short-type jobs, rather than major cleaning.

Music, and remember that having to do it over and over is job security.

Yep - music is great. The dice game helps. I know some folks in chat have had challenges that are (for instance) color-specific - clean or throw away items that have red in them, for instance. When I clean something that is really dirty - I love to see the dirt being washed away down the drain - I think about it like my problems, I am washing them away down the drain and am cleaning my mind at the same time as I clean my stuff.
