Lion, I have a message in at DA to subscribe to their online meetings. I hope I hear back from them soon. I'm very confused and hurt. My application was rejected. They gave no reason. I'm sitting here with tears in my eyes. I don't understand. Hi Misc, some of the online DA groups are actually connected to *phone meetings*. Once you attend the phone meeting, they share the information about applying to the online group and then you are usually allowed to join. Yearning4Order has a good hypothesis. I bet she's right. Some of the phone meetings have email lists that are supplements to the main phone meeting. Those lists aren't the meetings. Everyone is allowed at the phone MEETINGS. Another hypothesis is that you may inadvertently tried subscribing to a meeting-organizational-planning-session list or something like that. Something that isn't an actual MEETING. There are actual meetings online, via email, via yahoogroups, and via chatroom. Those are open to all who wish to avoid debting. The ONLY requirement for membership in DA is a desire to avoid debting. That's in the founding principles. If that's what you want, they can't turn you away ... from a MEETING.
You don't have to be in debt to join!PM me which list you tried to join, and I'll see if I can figure out what happened. -

I swear Target must pump some kind of hypnotic gas into their heating/cooling system because I almost cannot think logically about buying things in there. The only thing I can say is to set aside some fun money every month, and when its gone, its gone, that what I do. It doesnt help that Target has all kind of funky and cute cute things.I am in love with all of their Liberty of London things.

I have to chime in again here about Target. I cannot express in words how much I LOVE, yes LOVE, that store. I think woolyburger was making the funny when she said they must pump some kind of hypnotic gas in there, but I am justthisclose to believing it!
I go there about once a month for things like Kleenex, paper towels, detergent, etc., but I always find other treasures---sox! kitchen gadgets! towels! fans! cat food dishes! make up! and and and and....
Resistance is futile.

O.M.G. Target is the crack cocaine of department stores. If I won a million dollars, I'd probably spend half of it at Target. In fact, I'd probably just buy a Target. I grew up in a small Southern town where Wal-Mart was the center of the universe. When I moved to the big city to attend college, Target was much closer than Wal-Mart, so I gave them a try. From the minute I walked in the door, it was as if I had joined a cult. The light shined down, the shopping angels sang, and Wal-Mart became a distant memory. What's so sad is that I've even gotten my mom hooked on Target and she works at Wal-Mart! (She started after she retired from teaching a few years back.) Every time she comes to visit me, the very first place she wants to go is Target. That store should come with a warning label.

I know what it is, not sure why you couldn't brew tea and then refrigerate it? Works fine here...

One thing that Target does to make everything look more wonderful is the brilliant lighting: Bright white lights and an overall white background. Very effective. Compare to Wal-Mart, with its dingy grey lighting and dismal grey background. Look up at the ceiling next time you're in the two stores. All visual merchandising begins with the lighting.
You even feel more beautiful in Target. In Wal-Mart you feel like a schlub.

I agree that Target is much more positive shopping experience, with the lighting and design--cleaner, sleeker, more space, just a better feeling. However, I must say that I really don't like most Target design items--too pink and lime green for me! I have no problem resisting most of their stuff.
However, put me in a book store and my hands reach out to stroke the merchandise with no conscious direction from me.

After reading this thread I came to the realization my downfall is Petco and Pet Supply Plus. It seems I go there for dog food and end up spending over $200 a month on non food items. So I went on-line to Pet food direct and ordered the brand I use from them. Granted I had to spend close to $10 for the shipping charge but that $10 is way cheaper than the extra $100 I spend on items that aren't really needed. Thank you MiSC for starting this thread and allowing me to realize I'm right there along side of you and many others. SNM

I can't even go into Petco or Petsmart -- so I can add them to Target .... my list of places I don't dare go into. But I have hope that someday I can once again go in those places So don't feel bad you're definitely not alone.

Thus, I don't go there......

I went to the grocery store to get some chicken, and came out $106 later. Now, I will say this about that: We will eat all this food, and probably within the next week / week and a half. But it was still not planned or expected, so... I did it again.

Nope. The owner thought my login "sounded like" a spammer. She didn't bother to put that or anything else in her rejection email, but that was her reason. There was another terse response from her when I sent her a snippet of a discussion I had this morning that indicated how bad my money problems have been. She's either a brief person or a very rude person. I'll decide as I go on. But I am subscribed now, so at least I'll be able to make that decision later.

In fact, there's one that's about 5-10 minutes from my apartment and another one that's about 15-20 minutes away. The nearest Wal-Mart is 30 minutes away, so I end up using Target just because it's more convenient. But every time I walk in the door, I feel as if I should just surrender and hand the folks at the customer service desk my entire wallet.
