So I have a few large baby gear type stuff that I want to store for at least another year because we may decide to have another baby next year. A high chair, basinet, swing, bouncer, changing table... that sort of thing.
Has anybody had to store that type of stuff? How and where?
We have a garage, but it's humid, hot, and infested with rats. I'm not convinced that covering those things with huge garbage bags is toing to protect them. Any suggestions?

Sometimes there is no one perfect storage space. You might have to disassemble what can be taken apart and put some in the back of a closet here, some in a corner of the current child's room, etc.
BTW, I hope you know that the best way to guarantee you will have another child is to give away all of the baby stuff ! Actually, it guarantees two more, because who is going to rebuy all that gear for only one kid?

Is there anything that you can do about the rats? Rats can carry disease. Even if the garage is not attached to your house, I would imagine they could find there way inside. I think I'd sell the baby stuff if I had to, to pay for the rat-proofing. Except for a crib and high chair, babies can survive without baby stuff. I do understand that they are part of the countryside in some areas, so perhaps they are unavoidable?

skitter, i think the rats get in thru our garage door and dryer exit. can't really fix either until we clean out the garage.
messy mimi, i'm so afraid that's going to happen, which is why i'm holding on to those high ticket baby gear items. I'm not fixed yet and neither is my hubby. I actually do want to have one more baby before we close shop.

If the basinet folds, stick it in the back of a closet or behind a large piece of furniture near the wall. Cover it with a sheet to keep the dust & cobwebs off. You can re-purpose the changing table for a year or so, by putting it in the room where you sew or your office and keep office supplies, sewing supplies, gaming supplies or whatever in it/on it. Cover it with a table cloth is you want to disguise it. I had a folding high chair that I kept in the garage, but if your's doesn't fold, is it possible to hang it from the rafters in the garage? We used to have a rats, too. They were more interested in food sources and nesting material, so if you clean it thoroughly it won't be as attractive to them as old clothes or old books that are probably in the garage. In fact, if you have a spot in the garage where you can hang a high chair, (like we hang our bicycles in the winter), you can probably hang the swing & bouncer, too. Or, you could sit some of your daughter's (I may remember this wrong about you having a daughter) dolls in the bouncer and in the swing, so that they could be kept out for her to play 'mommy' with until you need them again.
