Thanks for bumping this up, because I really needed to read this. I've been slowly realizing that my middle name should be "Resists" because I have been noticing this resisting pattern in several areas of my life (such as work, relationships, my apt., etc.). As I've been able to sort out work and other areas, I now need to work on my apt. and just let go of my resistance. As I've been slowly doing that, it is getting easier, even if just a little bit every day.

Thanks so much for bumping it today. I came to the board this morning after a long absence and this thread was just exactly what I needed to hear (and to do!). It applies in pretty well every area of my life at the moment, my home, my work, my spiritual life. I'm a bit awed by the timeliness, in fact. Actually I could only read Arid's original post and the next couple of replies and then I had to go and wash a bowl of dishes before coming back to read the rest!

I like the expression 'submit to the process'. It's so simple, so straightforward. I've always resisted straightening up, putting away, cleaning, etc. It's a hold over in part from the battle of wills I always had with my mom. 'Clean up your room!'... 'No, and you can't make me.' But sometimes understanding the roots isn't enough to put something to rest. I'm getting better with resistence, especially after recognizing it's just another feeling state to accept, experience and move on. 'Submit to the process' melds nicely with that concept. It gives me something postive to move towards rather than something negative to leave behind. Thanks for the bump. edit: I was just outside working and found myself saying 'relax into the process', which seems to suit me better.

This thread was started in December 2008.
It has been one of the biggest keys to my recovery.
Thank you, Arid!

I just now re-read this whole thread . . .
You are very welcome, Lioness!!
Thanks so much for providing a link to it, too. (I'll admit; I was hoping that you would!! I knew that you could find this thread if anyone could.)

Betsymarie - I like that better - being asked to submit has never brought out the best in me.

Arid, thank you for the thread. Lioness, thank you for bumping it.
I read it this morning, and I like it. If I submit to the process and make the process a part of my everyday life, I just might have a chance. Crisis cleaning and telling myself I'm a failure at this certainly haven't helped, but submitting to a process and making it mine... I like that.

I am so glad that I read this post this morning! Thank you for bumping it! It was profound. Willingness and Surrender to the Process. I never thought to put it in those terms, but that is exactly what I am doing. I am working the 12 steps for other reasons right now, but I just never thought about it in the context of my squalor. Thank you!

Could we please put this thread on our Favorites? How is this done?
Thanks, Arid, for starting this thread; so glad you shared these thoughts and what made all the difference to you. This is fresh and uplifting every time I read it. Thanks to those who also posted their wisdom, including Lioness. Thanks, Lioness, for keeping it alive and bumping it several times, so it can help and remind those of us who need assistance, and help others who would have missed the wisdom of this thread otherwise.
