Good morning everyone!
I am trying to summon a positive attitude about today, because I had a very bad sleep night with the dog, and this morning my whole leg hurts, not just my knee--so I have no idea what that's about. And I'm supposed to walk to Walmart in two days.
BUT, the praying mantis posts have cheered me up considerably!
it walked toward me and I was sure it was chasing me
This is so cute, I can picture it!
That sucker swiveled his head around and kept his eye on me
I would be so fascinated by that! Is there another insect with a neck that can actually turn and look around--I never thought about that question before. This makes me think of the chameleons with the eyes that move independently of each other--I could sit and watch that forever, it's mesmerizing!
Although, okay, if a mantis jumped towards me I would probably be startled and jump back.
I will have to keep my eyes open when in the yard, if there's a praying mantis out there I want to get a good look at it. I was waiting to buy the stinky natural mosquito repellent spray until next year, but maybe I need it now--I'm missing out by not being able to spend time out there.
Still in the 80s today and now that I'm used to cooler weather the heat is hard to deal with, plus I'm so tired of my LOUD window air conditioner upstairs--they must have quieter ones available by now. I'm ready for fall to officially be here!

Good morning danny--wow, you have a busy repair stretch ahead of you--stressful, but it will feel really good when it all gets done.
I was thinking about the insect/neck issue so tried to look it up--if you guys are freaked out by insect photos, do NOT look up "giraffe beetle"!

Well now, of course I had to look that up, Diane. Doesn't look too scary but if I had to interact with one in person....... no thanks!

Since it has the body of a ladybug I'm assuming it's very small, but I need to find a video of it, I want to see that neck moving!

danny15 do you have a Habitat Restore near you? They sometimes have more vintage type items I thought I had a big meeting last night. When I pulled into the parking lot I did not see the cars for the "big players".When I went inside the meeting room was dark. I guess my meeting is next week! I took advantage of the free night and met my son and his GF and her DD for dinner. It was my son's birthday. My other son joined us and eventually DH. We made him pay as he was the last one to arrive. Today is work from home and it is a beautiful day outside. I have been super busy all morning - so I am taking a break for lunch and going outside for a few minutes. I think I will use the time to try and empty out my car. I am getting the weirdest piles of "stuff" and I need to deal with it.

Good morning ohblondie! How nice to get unexpected free time!
We made him pay as he was the last one to arrive.
The dog was ready to go out so we went, when I first went out the sun was behind a cloud and it was windy and I thought--perfect, not so hot and the wind blowing the mosquitoes away, I can do something out here. A few minutes later the sun came out and the wind stopped. And sure enough, immediately a mosquito almost landed on my arm. I did see a black swallowtail, that's the only non-cabbage white butterfly I've seen for weeks, I thought they were all gone. No praying mantises, though.

ohblondie that is a great idea, thank you! We have a Habitat for Humanity store about 30 minutes from here. I will go by this afternoon and see what is available.
I showed the handyman the vintage door hardware I saw online. He was not enthusiastic because of the difficulties of getting something, it might not work well, having to return it by UPS or whatever. He prefers to have a few items on hand, see what does/does not work and easily return to the store and buy something else. One thing I noticed that I thought was nice and typical of his integrity ~ when he gets something ready for return he makes sure every single screw is back in the tiny bag it came in and that all the hardware is put back in the box exactly the way it came. He said he doesn't want to return something, have the store resell it and then the next person gets home and finds parts are missing. He said he doesn't want to cause aggravation for the next guy.
Right now he is working on the garage shutters. Apparently, the last people who painted them (many years ago) never primed them or whatever basics need to be done. I remember having problems with those workers and the company owner. So he is taking them down, scraping, and will prime and paint.

Hi, this thread is getting so long with everybody being so productive
so Diane, my customer service story part two: I called yesterday since I was unable to get through on Monday; it was hard to get through again but this time they were taking calls. I had a question about my bill so on the automated thing, I said I want to speak to a person but that wasn’t an option so it just hung up on me. so I called the other number and was on that for a while, actually did eventually get through to a person and I wanted to know why the automated system is telling me I owe just five dollars and my bill is much more? she said the automated system doesn’t show your full balance only what is due today. There is no way to find out! I said how would people know that they owed more? it seems like you’re trying to rip people off by having them just pay late fees and not pay the actual amount. Anyway, I did pay it, but the whole endeavor took me 32 minutes most of it on hold. and the bill had a second late fee on it because when I called last time after I paid the five dollar fee, they said I didn’t know any money but in reality I did a quite a bit more
Yesterday I didn’t do any work at work except attend all these meetings. they weren’t bad meetings because they were with people I know very well, and I didn’t walk out of them with heavy work assignments, but I really didn’t get anything accomplished
I am in my eat-down mode for groceries, trying to buy as little as possible, so I had an unhealthy dinner last night- unhealthy in that it involved pasta but I did have broccoli too-trying to eat my vegetables.
I walked puppy. It was really hot so I took her up to the fountain so she could cool off in that. I’m happy to report a boycat’s-eye seems to be all better and I did not have to go to the vet. I usually can’t walk out of that place without spending at least $180.
Talked to DD last night. She is still struggling with this year, so I still have a heavy heart.
I work productivity is really low. I just don’t wanna do anything. I know that’s not good and I’m trying to plow through stuff. I’ve got plenty to do I just feel so stuck.

Danny, your handyman does sound like mine. I hope you guys can figure out how to save the door.
Good afternoon bree!
this thread is getting so long with everybody being so productive
Some people are being productive and one of us is being too chatty. I've been doing 5 minutes of work and 15 minutes of sitting down. My leg actually feels better, the pain is back to just being in the knee and is better than yesterday--this morning when I woke up it hurt from hip to ankle and I couldn't understand what was going on. It's possible that the night time dog issues are making me sleep in a state of tension, when I'm even able to sleep.

good morning everypony!
the bug stories make me smile. there is a reason that martial artists studied the praying mantis and copied her moves!
when I was little my dad had a book about invertebrates that terrified me. living in Georgia forced me to get over many of my fears. I am grateful I moved after the joro spider invasion, however. there are no predators and it loves the environment and the webs are so big and sticky they will trap a hummer.
the washing machine seems to be okay, but I guess I will do the quilts and blankets at the laundromat. fortunately there is one on the corner.
I got most of my errands run. it was great to have groceries in the house! I stayed up late catching up on late night shows and snacking.
DONE: DVD made brekkie checked online balance transferred $ checked email checked calendar checked notifications
so much to do but I think I am going back to bed. I want to stay well. well-ish.

danny15 is a house built in 1979 considered vintage? Yikes I am getting old. My door is 84 years old! I followed this discussion because I think if I replaced it it would help with keeping the heat in but it is a solid wood door so prob pretty $$$$

I got a load of jeans washed and my bedding washed - even the mattress pad as I spilled some coffee........ I got most of summer clothes packed up and the bins stacked in the corner. I have way too many summer clothes. I did pull some out as I packed and stacked. I think dishes are next as work day is done

The joro spiders are fascinating, scholar, their coloring and size. From what I'm reading they don't think they'll be a particularly harmful nonnative species but I guess you can't tell until they've been here a while. I wonder if they'll make their way up to the midwest?
