Diane, if you got mice you could probably do the same thing I am without the neighbors knowing exactly what you are doing. You are right, what bothers me so much is that they have been inside mice their whole lives (for the most part they have been babies, not many large ones) and I can tell by their total confusion that they are clueless as to where they are or where to go when they are released from the humane trap. They often don't want to leave the trap, I have to shake them out. Then sometimes they freeze and I gently touch them before they scoot off. For awhile last winter I felt so badly when it was a cold rain I wouldn't set the traps because I didn't want them to be in the traps too long but I didn't want to put them out in the cold rain either. Reminding myself that they do not belong in my house doesn't help much; I still don't want them to suffer either physically or mentally with stress. I have no idea of course, if the same ones find their way back in. I don't think it is possible to keep them out completely around here.

Danny, if I could euthanize them humanely I would be fine with that, there isn't a good place for them outside in winter, and no one wants them in their house! But poison is a painful way to die and snap traps are instantaneous sometimes and other times, no. And glue traps are probably the worst of all. So I just hope that I don't get any in the house but I know I won't always be so lucky.
I'm going to stop for lunch but first I'm going to place a Walmart order. I saw they have a really cute bat tray for Halloween and I want one. So much for not spending so much money--but it's a bat tray!! I can buy toilet paper and bird seed to make up the free shipping cost.

Yes, Diane, there is no ideal way to get rid of the mice. I was ok with the cats catching them (when they did) because it seemed like natural consequences. DD1 just told me she caught 2 more babies during the night. She is usually up most of the night with insomnia. When I told her of my plan she laughed and said, Mom you really don't need to go to all that trouble, the outdoor cats will get them anyway.
Finished the lower half of the front stairs ~ walls, wood edges, carpeting. I wore my close-up glasses and headlamp; what a HUGE amount of dirt, cat hair, bits of cat litter, dust bunnies! At the bottom I vacuumed a little of the wood floor. Still need to do the landing. There is so much stuff on the stairs, sorting, dusting, throwing away, putting away, setting aside for donation, is taking a lot of time.

Hello scholar, I'm not surprised you need a nap, that was a busy weekend.
I stopped for a reading break and took the dog out, thankfully the Halloween sounds stopped a few hours ago--I wonder if the picky neighbors are out for the day--I can't believe they wouldn't have come over and complained.
I need to steam some veggies for dinner, it's a little early but I hope to be in bed a little early too. I need to mow tomorrow, unless it's rainy in the morning, I don't think it's supposed to be but suddenly the sky is very grey, so who knows.
I think I'll have most of the house decluttered by tonight except the kitchen downstairs, that is always the hardest room because everything I don't know what to do with ends up there.

I still need to eat dinner, but I'm going to post in the challenge because today is report day--I want to keep on schedule for report day this month.
Good night everyone, see you tomorrow in the weekday thread!

You all have such kind hearts for animals, it's very sweet Today I've been focusing on getting the ground floor ready for the bathroom installer coming back. He said he would come tomorrow if the weather wasn't too bad as he needs to cut things in the garden and can't do that if it's raining. Hopefully this time tomorrow I might even have a finished bathroom. That will need lots of cleaning though before I can enjoy it! Done: Dusted entrance hallway Vacuumed downstairs bathroom Cleaned sink Cleaned toilet Load of laundry Laundry from machine to dryer Cleared, folded and bagged some clean laundry Achieved coffee table zero Achieved dining table zero Emptied dishwasher Stacked dishwasher Wiped down kitchen tops Cleared out my handbag Make packing list To do: Try and apply mould removing gel to the washing machine seal Tomorrow: Take laundry upstairs x 2 Put laundry away x 2 Pack for my trip on Tuesday
