Good morning everyone! Thanks for starting the thread, lennon!
I am back from Walmart. The walk was easier than last time since it hasn't been so long since I did it, but I have the usual post walk aches and pains. I left the house just as it was getting light, but it never really got light--I think we already have clouds from the storm that will be here later today. It was lighter when I came out of the store but not much.
When I got home I fed and medicated the dog and offered to take her out, but she's not ready yet. I put away the frozen and refrigerated stuff and I'm now sitting resting. Now I am fully stocked on everything so my only nervousness about the next week is the furnace--I think the fan is making a different noise than usual and I really hope the furnace guy will get out here for the annual check. As long as I know the furnace is okay I can deal with the cold, I will just have to watch the pipes to make sure they don't freeze.
Cando, I see you're mom's sick, that's another worry for you--I hope she gets better soon.

Hi lennon and Diane! Cold and snowy here. Yesterday was church and football. Watched the game at my sister’s house. My niece was home for a visit - she lives far from home. So fun and we liked the outcomes! I did get to church and two grocery stores Puppy was so happy with the snow in our walk. She was jumping and nose diving. Joyful girl I did my little chores before bed. But I have not tackled my dining room table I am nervous about walking puppy tonight be it will be dark and icy and she will be highly energetic. Diane did you ever use those cleat type things to put on your boots? I recd some for Christmas but have not tried. Today I am using my lunch to go over my debt and pay bills I weighed myself today and ugh. Must get on track. Work today has been quiet for the most part. Puppy was the alarm clock today barking away. Prob an animal or a dog Walker… last night five deer were in our yard. Little bird is back again! Oh Diane from your note in the weekend thread, I actually really enjoy running errands. I love to have the freedom to drive from place to place. I think it is because raising a child alone calls for much planning and errands can be challenging to do. And I am pretty much stuck at a desk most of the day m- f. So I love just the sheer freedom of driving around. Though when my back hurt, I was very grateful for insta cart!

Good morning bree!
I did try cleats for my boots when I first started dog walking, but only used them a few times. The problem was that I was walking on neighborhood sidewalks and some of them were unshoveled and icy but lots of people would shovel. It was weird walking on a clear sidewalk with them on, plus I figured I would damage them on cement. It seemed kind of silly to be looking only for icy surfaces to walk on so I didn't ruin the cleats! Then about the third time I used them I was walking in an area with soft snow and one of them fell off and I didn't even feel that it was gone until I had walked a while--so I had to backtrack to look for it. So, they weren't really practical for where I was walking. Bree, I think you have more open space to walk instead of sidewalks, so they might work better for you.
I'm trying to figure out if it would be better to be walking with cleats or without if you're on a slippery surface and a dog pulls you really hard--cleats could help you dig in and stop the dog, or they might stick and make you fall. But of course, you could also slip on the ice with regular shoes on. I remember only one time when a dog pulled me along a totally icy sidewalk--he saw a rabbit up ahead and I couldn't get traction to dig in and stop him from pulling me several houses. All I could do was move my feet as fast as possible to keep up with him, and I was able to, I didn't fall. Thank goodness the rabbit ran under a fence or we might still be running!
Okay, I have rested for a while, I need to do some work.
TO DO:
10 minutes on first floor Take dog out and feed her Put downstairs groceries away Change furnace filter

Thanks Diane I think I’ll give them a Try tonight though I am a little nervous. Puppy especially lunges to rabbits!
I just tallied up my debt. Ugh. I only use credit for internet purchases for online orders which I pay off. I pay any of those new purchases off and I pay the interest and I pay a chunk to go to the existing balance. And it is still such slow going. I have decided I can’t retire unless this debt is paid off!
Despite my weight today I did some emotional eating as a colleague brought in these baked goods.
I need to get a grip! Fir the rest of the day no snacks just a low carb dinner
I am tired and feeling blah. But I need to be productive

Good day scholar!
I can't quite figure out how to permanently cover the air conditioner outside for the winter. I don't remember if I mentioned here that last year I had a cover for it, but this year I was reading online that it's not recommended to cover them tightly, partly because it traps moisture inside, and also because it makes an inviting place for wildlife to shelter, which would not be good for the unit. When I called the furnace guy I did ask about it, and he agreed, that just the top should be covered to prevent snow from piling in and freezing. I asked if I could use the cover I have but fold it up towards the top and fasten so it wasn't all the way covered, and he said that I should leave the fins uncovered. Well, the fins start an inch below the top of the unit and that doesn't leave space to fasten anything. But I also read a tip a few days ago that said I could drape the regular cover over in a loose way before a snow, put bricks to hold it down, and then remove it as soon as the snow is finished falling so any trapped moisture can dry out. So that's what I'm going to do, until I can talk to the handyman and ask what he thinks. Another suggestion was putting plywood over the top and weighing it down, but my unit has a raised metal grill in the middle of the top, so plywood wouldn't sit on top.
Next I have some cuttings I want to put in soil, partly because they have been sitting out for a long time and if I don't do it now I don't think they'll live, and partly because today is my challenge report day and I want to report some kind of progress on my big plant goal.

I have to work, but no appts to get up on time for. or as my DM would correct me, for which to get up. which sounds archaic these days. Quote from Winston Churchill about not ending sentences with prepositions: “This is the type of arrant pedantry up with which I will not put.” Apparently this rule came from scholars of Latin, who thought English should follow similar rules. Stick to your guns!

The cardinal just called me to put food out. She's getting braver, she started flying back before I had the door shut!
Well, now I hurt all over. It was not good to do laundry on the same day I walked to Walmart, but over the next two days a lot of the precipitation from the storm will be in the form of rain and I don't like to do laundry on rainy days so I don't overwhelm the sump pump.
And speaking of that, I had no idea "sump" was a separate word that referred to other things. In the fascinating book about caving that I read recently they talked about sumps, which in caves, are long, shallow passages through the rock that are filled with water, so if the caver wants to keep moving into the cave they have to dive through them.
Okay, clearly my mind is wandering, I think I'm mostly done being productive today. Even my neck is hurting, when I walk pushing my cart I've noticed my shoulders tense up and hunch so that I'm constantly telling myself to relax my shoulders.
I will still have one more trip to the basement to get the dry laundry, and I still have to post in the challenge thread. And of course, take care of the dog, and the birds. And make dinner now, which will be something easy.

Okay, I have reported in all three challenge threads, I had dinner, and will soon start getting ready for bed. As I just said in the challenge thread, this is the first day that I will not be at baseline at any time today. Last night getting ready to shop today, and today shopping and a few other things have made messes and I'm too sore to clean them up. Hopefully tomorrow I will be back to uncluttered.
I also cleaned the seed pool tonight in anticipation of it snowing overnight, it'll be easier to scoop snow out of the pool if there aren't a lot of seed hulls in there.
I will have to pay attention to the forecasts for the rest of the week--currently it says it will snow tonight and then rain tomorrow, which should wash the snow away. However, we have a chance of snow all week, and starting Friday it's supposed to get freezing cold--which means any snow or slush remaining anywhere will freeze solid for several days and be treacherous to walk on. So I'll have to be vigilant and shovel anything that doesn't get washed away.
Good night everyone, see you tomorrow!
Diane
