yesterday ended up being quite busy I baked those cookies and dropped them off with DS I got my car inspected while I was there I stripped, washed and dried and remade two beds (and I had to go to the laundromat to wash them) Washed the jeans cleaned two bathrooms Tried to organize under the sink but ended up just putting things back under. I was working in a very confined space. Next time I will combine half full bottles and weed out what I do not use. I did get the random bottles back under and the new sponges pulled to the front I went and picked up my mom's meds I helped my mom shower DH and I went out to look at decking materials, Our deck needs repair or replacement We decided to get something at Applebees and discovered the appetizers were 1/2 price.
Today is a lot of running as well Went to get discount waterpark tickets (a union benefit) Realized I needed to rejoin the union to do this (retiree's join their own union) drove to the union building to drop off my application (fortunately just a couple of miles away) They are processing my application today and I can get the tickets tomorrow I had better get gas on my next trip out I took my mom to visit my dad and we joined the exercise group
I dropped her off and went to two different home improvement stores to look for the decking material. Struck out twice
Now I am catching my breath and planning the next thing to do
I have some empty boxes and will use them to start sorting out the back half of the kitchen.

Hi ohblondie! A new deck! Is that something you guys can build yourself? I keep looking into vinyl flooring material that can be put on porches--my upper porch has small spaces between the boards and the bird seed that I feed falls through. I know there are vinyl materials that can go outside, but I don't know if they can go right down on a painted porch with small spaces between the slats. I will be asking my handyman.
I went outside for another 45 minutes. I wanted to water the dill I planted this morning, and the zucchini. I also cut 2 more bucketfuls of tree branches and brought them out to the can at the street to fill it up to the very top. It's still hot out, there's a small chance of rain overnight so I'm really hoping for that.
I'm finished for the day, I'm pretty tired.
I think I will read until it's time to eat dinner.

Diane - it sounds like you could put a piece of vinyl flooring down or you could get a rubber backed mat. There are often remnants of pieces of left over flooring. A rubber mat would be $20? I actually have one that I am trying to give away!
We already have a deck. Two boards were taken up to fix something - I think where the hose connected to the house. We need to either repair (sand and paint) the deck or replace the boards with an engineered material like trex (or a cheaper alternative). So we wouldnt need to build, just pull up the planks and put new ones down. THe frame and footing is fine. It would add to the value of the house. There is so much to do - so many little things but a couple of big ones too!
DH came home and I was outside trimming a few bushes. I decided I had better water the plants as it will be hot the next few days.
Tomorrow am I will run to Aldi. I am so hooked on their potato salad! I also want to grab some lettuce - I need to focus on salads (green lettuce salads) for awhile. I will also pick up the discounted water park tickets I tried to get today. And gas - I must get gas!

Diane, the main thing to watch out for with decks is that water is trapped next to the wood. This can be hard to fix. There are materials designed to go on top of decks. There was an evacuation called about an hour north of here. A small fire, but apparently near homes. Got to make it through a couple more days. Heat + low humidity + wind = red flag warning.
I discovered DVD was out in the garden when it was 102*F. He came in. took a cold shower and is at his mom's for trash night.
I got more done than I realized

Oh I’m afraid of fire. I’m very sensitive to smoke. stupid lungs. Hope they out that out fast. No more accidental or forest fire for anyone.
Well I’m a night owl in a group of early birds, I see. I walked various dogs and ate pizza and salad and gelato and fancy sodas with friend. We decided not to go see a live performance of “whose line is it anyway” because the tickets are rather expensive. And it’s a big venue which seems like a point against the experience.
Had a music lesson. That was good. Some new stuff. She laughs at my jokes. She laughs at everyone’s jokes, but I still like it.
Fed the big white cat. Whose name is Kilo which is funny. He is a big white brick of a cat. A kilo is 2.2 pounds. He is more like 10 kilos
I think I’m taking the night off of house task, BUT This can’t be the start of going back to daily sloth. You must all demand more from me tomorrow please.
PS I saw a bunch of fireflies

Good morning womble and everyone!
The weather forecast is depressing--today it'll be 90, then the next 9 days will be mostly between 85 and 88. It's better than a week in the 90s, but still not good. The possible rain last night did not come, another chance today but I'm not holding my breath.
I spent an hour outside this morning, weeding, watering and cutting more branches--I squeezed another 2 buckets of stuff into the yard waste can and they still haven't come to pick up--usually they're here around 6:30.
Yesterday I saw a cicada exoskeleton on my back porch! So it's true, the annual ones are starting to arrive--I did hear their sound a couple of times while outside on Monday. Everything is accelerated this summer--the milkweed in the back part of my yard already has wilted flowers and I saw seed pods starting to form--that usually doesn't happen til August. So I assume the monarda flowers will wilt any day now--they are covered with bees any time I go out there, so nice to see. I forgot if I mentioned that I saw a butterfly on the "puddler" for the first time, it was a Red Admiral. I have seen exactly one orange butterfly this year, don't know if it was a Monarch or Viceroy--I'm mostly seeing various swallowtails, which are my favorites, but where are the others?
Ohblondie and scholar, figuring out what to put on the porch has been a problem--vinyl flooring has to be the kind okay for outside use, and even that, my handyman says would be slippery when it's wet. He keeps suggesting indoor/outdoor carpeting, and I will never agree to that, I hate all carpeting. I found something called "Econodek" which is meant for this purpose, but you have to order it directly from the company, they don't tell you how much it costs until you call, and the installation process sounds complicated. I'm guessing that even if we found a flooring that wasn't slippery, it would require some kind of waterproof barrier in between. It would probably cost more than I want to pay at this point, but it sure would be nice to keep the bird seed on the upper porch instead of having it fall all over the whole porch area. I wonder if a rubber mat would be dry enough--I imagine there are large ones that would cover the porch in one piece, I know if I had more than one up there I would be tripping on them. And would I like them better than carpeting? I don't know, I have to keep looking, there has to be a solution.
Puppybox, there is a monthly challenge thread that you can join, it can make you feel accountable. Or, it can terrify you, since a lot of people don't like challenges or even making lists. Or else just challenge yourself here to do something, we will be waiting for you to come back and report!
I'm trying to figure out if I need a Walmart order this week, if so I think I need to lock in the delivery day of Friday today, since it's a holiday weekend. I just hate this holiday. Even though I no longer have to worry about the dog being afraid of the noise, it still really annoys me. Besides all the fireworks, the village had a parade on Saturday that involved every emergency vehicle in the area continually running their sirens and beeping their horns for 20 minutes straight, half a block from my house. I just don't see what's appealing about loud noises.
Ohblondie, the next time I'm at Aldi I will try their potato salad. How is their coleslaw? I've had a craving for coleslaw, if I do order from WM I will get some coleslaw and hope it's good.
Today I hope to work on my July challenges to get a good head start on them.

Good morning TT! I hope you can figure out a motivating game for today. Lately I've been playing a 3-4 minutes of Plants vs. Zombies and then setting my 10 minute timer to work in between games. That lets me sit down and rest my back every 10 minutes. I keep wanting to use dice but some days are more conducive to that than others.
I haven't had breakfast yet, I will do that now.
