I liked the latest episode of Hoarders. The two people they focused on were not as severe as the past couple of episodes, even though Dale had an infestation, and it felt like both made progress. Watching this show and Clean House helps me deal with my ghost-squalor... I can look around and objectively see that I'm not living anywhere near as poorly as I did before. And yeah, it helps get me to vacuum

Good episode last night! I thought both Chris and Dale were nice, interesting people! All in all, a great episode, not bleak at all, much more upbeat, and I thought both people made great progress.

I'm glad that we've finally had an episode of Hoarders this season where they didn't have somebody whose house was in such dire physical shape and so full of filth that they had to bust out the shovels to deal with it. Like I say, there's filth and there's clutter, and both these episodes were more about clutter than filth.
DH and I loved some of the artworks we saw hanging out at Dale's house, and we completely understood how his creativity was tied up in his problem -- all these neato objects he'd pick up, meaning to make them into even neato-er works of art. Only he had 3 lifetimes worth of potential project material.
As for Chris, DH and I both think that hers was a classic example of how you can have an event that breaks your heart and sends you over the edge. Her story was a very good illustration of how depression + DIYperfectionism can lead to things becoming so big that you need a lot of help figuring out where to get started and some new ideas on how to tame the chaos.
And I hope that all ends well for both Chris and Dale, because anybody with a brain could see that they're both wonderful, creative, and loving people.

Well, that is the general consensus about most hoarders. OCD is a mental illness, depression is a mental illness... most hoarders are really not completely mentally healthy.
Which is NOT a "value" judgment, any more than saying a person who has asthma, or diabetes or cancer is not well. They are all different forms of physical illness.
