Uh-huh! And this is why I've never married. Why does the woman always end up the only grown-up in the house? $hits me to no end. Well...it doesn't always end up that way. In my life, I've found that it's about 50/50...there are times when I'm more the grownup, but then there are times when he is more the grownup. Unfortunately, when you're dealing with someone who does react in a negative way to helping out with getting out of a squalor situation, it does sometimes feel like that's "all" they do. Sometimes, you just gotta dig a bit to find the root causes and be creative in your approach. People often reach their decisions to get out of squalor at different times. Sometimes, you just gotta wait on them to catch up. Ah lumy, and jen, and all the other women who did it - you guys are braver women than I! I don't have the patience. I think I'd end up on the evening news with footage of me being hustled into a police van under suspicion of murder.... Seriously jen, sorry to derail your thread, but I think you must be superwoman! Work, kids, hubby, animals, school..... Amazing stuff. I think anyone who is attempting all that gets a free pass from cleaning!

jenni, I think you are remarkable! I am so impressed with the way you are working through this situation - you seem to see things clearly and have a realistic attitude, so I am sure you will come up with a system that works for you and your family. I'm interested to hear how thing are going!

I'm mean. In that situation, I hid the video games. Then I piled the trash in front of the TV. Then, when my husband came charging in to yell at me about it, I calmly told him that I wasn't the only adult in the house. I showed him what I'd been doing. Then I reminded him that he wasn't the only one working full-time. I had school at that time too. This was when my firstborn was about six months old.
People on this site know my latest cleaning venture. They don't know about the countless times I keep starting, then things get bad, then I clean and maintain for a while, then the maintainance stops, and the cycle starts again. This last time, the house had been neglected for two+ years, and we were at about a level 3 squalor according to the old site. I didn't know about this site until last year though. Hopefully my house will be clean for good this time. My hubby is helping now and I'm trying to teach my kids.

When I do do it, I'll write a book on exactly how it's done, make millions of dollars, get a big house with lots of storage, and hire a maid.
