Cando - yesterday I was reading your posts about getting the house cleaned up before the daughter's new boyfriend came to visit and I related the sense of shame when he came to pick her up the first time last week. She admitted to me last night that she was very worried when he picked her up on Sunday because he would see our yard in daylight -- it was a mess when he picked her up but it looked much better when he brought her home....if he noticed the mess, I hope he noticed the improvement. I jinxed myself with the thought that I was glad I wouldn't have to worry about him coming into the house because she is as anxious about it as I am; although strangely unwilling to do anything to address anything other than her room. Low and behold, at 10 o'clock last night -- long after I could do anything about it -- she begged me to let him come over for a couple of hours tonight. I get up for work at 5:30 so there was to be no staying up all night to clean. I originally said "no" but after a conversation with hubbie, we decided "okay" so long as she spent an hour this afternoon after school picking up the dining room/living room area like she was supposed to over the weekend -- it's not in too bad shape just needs a quick vacuum and stash the stuff routine.
How do I convince my kid that the mess in our house is not the result of being "poor"?

: How do I convince my kid that the mess in our house is not the result of being "poor"? The other day, Sean (6), was wistfully staring out the front door and said, "I wish we could buy more money."

HONEST ACCOUNTABILITY:
I've kept up with exactly one thing for these last few days. The dishes.
I'm going, right now, to get my bear something to drink, and I'll catch up with today's dishes, and then come back here and do SOMETHING on my list!
That's it. My honest accountability. (And pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeease don't say that it's okay or that I'll do better tomorrow. I'm one of the ones who's done the mental/emotional work on the squalor & hoarding, and just needs a swift kick. I should put that in my sig. In fact, I think I'm going to do exactly that.)

So, Misc... did you get dishes & anything else done? I'm hopin' so... CD Of my 7 daily goals, the only ones I didn't touch were BOXES and OBVIOUS TRASH. That obvious trash thing -- that's just stupid. This house isn't that bad. Yes, it'll take some sweeping and sorting, but it's just stupid for me to leave the papers around the trash bin when they spill over. I have a strong mind to dump the trash bin into a white bag right now. I also have a mind to just sit here at 10:45pm and take my freakin' meds. (Echo! ) I'll finish the meds and then get the bag. If anything goes into the bag tonight, that'll be good. Aw hell. Okay, I'm going. Okay. Trash bin emptied into the white bag. Back to the meds. (The white bag is sitting behind me, but it's not going anywhere tonight.) I'll go mark it on the list, which is in this thread: takeonestepatatime.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=action&thread=9896&page=1. Question, when do we check it off? When it's touched, or when it's completed?

I'm getting a LATE start today. I didn't take my meds in time last night, so I slept too little, and after getting everyone out the door I went back to sleep. I totally forgot to make any lunch for Sean and sent him to school without any food. So I promised to take him for a milk shake later, but still. You don't send your 6yo to school without lunch.
The moral of the story is: TAKE MEDS ON TIME!
