Creative chaos, I too am an artist and I do a lot of boxes a la Joseph Cornell!! That means I have a lot of little pieces of junk that I WANT to put into my art work!! It makes it really hard to get rid of these pieces! A while ago I had picked up a $1 bag of little toys that I wanted to put in a box, and then changed my mind. Cleaning yesterday, I found the unopened bag, and donated the whole thing!! My husband shrugged when I told him, but I know you will appreciate the effort it required to give away the " art potential" !! I also get inspired and sometimes do really big pieces! I have a 5ft x 4ft 3-D floor piece that I don't know where to store!! It's not my only large piece!! I also made a ceramic tree-woman 8ft tall!! She sits in two pieces on my couch, in a room I can't get into yet!?! Not that everything is an art project saved, I have tons of other stuff that has nothing to do with art! That I need to get rid off!! For now, I have the control not to bring in too much. Especially, since I am focused on eliminating!! But, figuring out what to keep for art and what to let go??!?! I can't seem to put a perimeter around the art " necessities " !! Thanks for listening/ reading! Renee

hi renee; oh how i can relate to your dilemma as an artist! assemblages and junk art are my favorites. wow, you donated a whole bag of little toys? that is impressive! how did that feel? the ones i hate are the discards/releases that afterward i fixate on and regret. doesn't happen that often but sometimes it does and it's stressful!
i love joseph cornell; never knew of his work until a few years ago when i saw a book on him. his work is amazing! do you take pics of your art and do you ever post them or have a website?
i'm not doing too good on the items released. acquiring more than will be released . huh. what to do. hope you and w8ting can keep me company here. maybe msdare will join in again too!
luv, cc

This post will be used to list acquisitions made the week of September 11 through 17. Sunday 9/11/11 Bought web cam setup for DH so he can skype with DD at college. This was supposed to be a birthday present, but I gave it to him a few weeks early. Also purchased some blank DVD's for backing up stuff on the computer. Monday 9/12/11 Bought some fuzzy warm socks to add to DD's next care package. Asked her to donate any items she does not LOVE to her school's Exchange. Tuesday: Only bought food I will eat over next few days. Wednesday: 9/14. Went to Mennonite quilt shop with scraps of fabric from the quilt I am making for DD. Found a bolt of fabric that I think will be a good accent color and hopefully pull the top together visually, bought 1/2 yd. Then I looked for backing fabric. After almost giving up, I found a bolt of 108" wide fabric, that was just the right shade. It was also exactly 2 yds long which is about the minimum size I can get by with. It was only about 1/2 the price of the other fabrics in that section too, so hopefully that was a good buy. I also bought a spool of thread that will match the backing color. This is all stuff I needed to finish the quilt., although I may have been able to get by with a smaller piece of the accent color. I am thinking that when I get done piecing together to top, I could bundle up all of the scraps and sell them on ebay, (if there are enough left, that is.) I'm still playing with the layout, and now, since I bought that backing fabric, I know the maximum dimensions. Now I need to purchase the batting. Thursday: Nada. Did donate some money for bridal shower at work. Friday through Sunday. Went away to a retreat center, got some much needed rest. Food and lodging package deal $165. Didn't buy anything. Earlier this week (forget which day) got my haircut at the neighbor's cost $11.

Dear W8ingnomore,
That was smart to have your daughter donate to exchange because she is bringing socks in! Teaching wise ways of desqaulering! WTG!!
Creativechaos,
I do sometimes have regrets of things that have gone, by my hand or no, but... I am sending some of these things into the universe and counting on the universe to get them to the right people/places ! It takes awhile to adopt this philosophy. I have been strong, and passed up many things that I felt calling to me; if I don't have the time or room to use them now, .... Then they are meant for someone else! When I am ready they will reveal themselves to me, at the RIGHT time. The universe I give to, will give back when I need it.
By the way, did the book on Cornel reveal he was a hoarder?! He was!
I do have some artwork pictures on Facebook. Renee Buckley: is that all you need?
I don't know how to upload pix on this site from my iPhone but I can to Facebook. No other computer working at my house.
That too the universe will take care of at the right time!
Keep striving for the home and peace we all want and need!
Renee

I'm going to give this a shot, but may snail out: Splurges this month: * $5 for 2 containers of bleach wipes, one for cabin, one for house --- I already have containers of lemon-scented wipes I should have used up first * $2 for new robust spray-bottle for cabin, to spray bleach-water over moused areas --- I have spray-bottles at the house that could have worked * $2 for silicone hair ties and headbands --- I have enough hair ties, and plastic headbands work ok * $1 for wire basket to hold bottle brush on sink * $6 for wire sink rack * $12 for lunch with friend: I said, 'someplace cheap' and she suggested the place we went as their lunch menu wasn't bad -- I didn't have the juice to say, no, that's still too expensive...... * $6 for Sunday breakfast Today: nothing yet (that is, I've consumed only what I have at the house, nothing new purchased) *ew, don't know whether I can do this

No purchases today.
The other day I bought zip-loc bags for containerizing, and garbage bags as well. Ok, relative size is not my best thing. So today I exchanged 3 things: two containers of garbage bags for two containers of LARGER zip-locs, and one storage container for another package of silicone headbands -- they do work better.
So, I've put a whole category of hair ties, plus headbands that don't work 'cause my head is so large, into the bag that I'm taking to my friend's tomorrow -- she has granddaughters!
So, I broke even!

September 18 through 25
Sept 18: Nada Sept 19: Groceries, nothing else Sept 20: More groceries along with snacks + hot cocoa mix to mail to DD. Sept 21: Gas... yeah, my car was on "E" Sept 22: Nada Sept 23: Nada Sept 24: Today I was a little bit bad. My cousin posts coupon codes on her blog and facebook. Today she posted that a certain catalog, was offering 40% off of all of their already reduced clearance items, and then another 30% off and free shipping with a coupon code. I ordered 3 jackets, a necklace, a pair of pants and a skirt for $137. It would have totaled somewhere between $400 to $500 before the sale. I justified this because I am getting a raise and a bonus at work in my next check, however, I already spent my bonus money a couple of weeks ago on a new computer, and I REALLY do have to reduce my spending because of DD's college tuition... so... there goes another impulsive spending spree. I have decided that any of the items that I don't LOVE, I will return to a local store for a refund, ASAP. As a justification, I do NOT regularly spurge on new clothes. I promise to get rid of some old clothes to make room for the new.

Yesterday: $1.67 dinner @ BK Today: $4.19 breakfast at McD's; $13.61 for coke, milk, ensure, and a composition book only slightly different than the one I use now. One of the categories I have a problem with is cleaning supplies. (Ironically.) Well, today I accepted that the lemony pretty spray cleaner of which I have two (kitchen/bathroom) makes me cough. That's a clue. So, I poured them out & I'm in the process of taking the labels off the spray bottles. It's taking quite a bit of time & vinegar to do this. More than $2-worth of my time to get a couple more spray bottles? No. BUT I'm not throwing out 2 things only to replace them with 2 of the same things. When I'm done I'll be 2 spray-bottles ahead with the universe. Aaaaand: $199.37 for prescriptions

This is a great thread! I have definitely slowed the influx of stuff coming into my house, but this really gets me thinking. Yes, whether it's stuff I buy or free stuff, it all eats up space from my house. I don't even go into stores anymore unless I must, because I know I have no willpower. I passed up a shopping opportunity with my dds last week, and one said to the other, "Is the world ending?" I am MINDFUL of stuff.

You guys are doing great. I have to let you know that even though a group of us did explore Galena, a real shopping opportunity spot, I did not bring home a single item. Not even consumable food. Yes, I did graze the samples in one shop and my taste buds were tempted, but I departed empty handed and don't regret not spending the money and pleased that I am able to resist temptations such as this more and more frequently. What I did acquire were memories of good times with friends. Celeste and I browsed a couple of art galleries, one of which is run by her favorite artist, and from whom I would definitely taken lessons were he still teaching. A wonderful water colorist is he! And such a nice gallery. He even has 'granddaughter art' available for viewing, which I entirely enjoyed being so inclined myself. And another gallery of the most exquisite photographs, which fortunately I couldn't really afford anyway, was a delight to meander through with Celeste. We learned a bit more about each other and what we find pleasing to the eye and to the soul. These kinds of acquisitions (of memories) are priceless and take up so little space in our minds, but give back so much.
