Allwell, think about trying the chat room, we can help encourage you to move and give you feedback and PRAISE for everything you do, one small step at a time. Typically people will "challenge" at :00 and :30 for 15 minutes, then come back and report what they have worked on. Others will cheer you on. If 15 minutes seems too overwhelming, you can work for 5 minutes at a time, or just go do ONE thing and report back. It is great to get the encouragment and inspiration from others. You can do this!
Another wonderful resource that works for people is Listzilla. In the WIT thread (working in threes), you post 3 small things that you intend to do, go do them, then post again what you have accomplished.
Think about trying some of these to help you get started. It really is true that MFA - Motivation Follows Action. Once you get started it is much easier to keep going.
Someone else also suggested that you take "before" pictures before you start. I second this idea. You can use them to show the BOH how much progress you have made. And you can use them to remind yourself just how far you have come!
I hope that you will keep us updated on how things are going. I am excited for you to make this change in your life!!

Since your experience with the BOH so far has been positive, I think you should let them come sooner rather than later (that is, stick with the 12th, whether you have made significant progress or not). It sounds as if they are going to be understanding, so although it will be tough to have them, you will survive. Just think, when this first came about, did you think you would be able to call the inspector or write a letter to your neighbours about your situation? And yet, you have. I just hate to think of you doing all the hard labour alone when there might be resources to help you out.

Allwell, do come into Working in Threes or chat today to get some support while you are working, if you think that might help. I may have a friend coming over this afternoon (granted, not like the BOH), and I have a lot of work to do this morning. I know you don't feel well, plus you are grieving and trying to deal with the anxiety. I will be cheering you on today.

Allwell, like Moonglow & Seashell, I also encourage you to join in on Working in Threes in Listzilla or joining in Chat so you will have teamwork & comraderie to help urge you along & celebrate your successes as they occur.
It is too easy to get off track & too easy to lose the willpower when you try to do it on your own. Let the company of others cheering you on help get you swept up in the positive wave of momentum--TODAY.
You will hear it here often but it really is true, that Motivation Follows Action. You will never 'feel like it'. The only thing that will work is to Just.Get.Started.Now.
The cheers of others & working in tandem with others really does help break the overwhelming inertia. Small steps will get you there. You CAN do this, please take the 1st step & join in!

Hi All, Feeling much better, I just spent 1+1/2 hr clearing the right side of my bed and filling 2 trash bags, so I have started! I listened to an audiobook which helped me keep going will doing something I get tired of easily and I didn't have any problem deciding if something should be tossed or not. I don't think I would have gotten started without your support. I will list all I have done in Listilla, but will continue reporting my progress here.

I, too, find it helps me to be totally distracted by something more interesting while doing these chores. I am looking forward to reading more of these reports! Please keep posting!

Just catching up on this thread. I'm so glad you called them and are being straightforward with them. I know the feeling of just wanting to hide and hoping it will go away.
Good luck to you on your project. I know you can make a great deal of difference. Good job on the area next to the bed. That's a good start. And I bet you'll feel better each day with the infection getting taken care of and making strides with your house.

Woo Hoo!!! 2 trash bags gone! That's a fabulous start, allwell! Be sure and pat yourself on the back for your hard work today, my friend. Guilt often keeps us from enjoying any progress we make and that's a big mistake. Who wants to clean up if you can't let yourself enjoy the results as you go? So DON'T let those thoughts or feelings creep in - banish them! The first thing that you need to throw out is guilt and shame.
I look forward to reading this thread and applauding your victories!!!

This AM I typed up a progress sheet of my daily intentions and accomplishments from today until the 4/12 , it helps me break down my tasks, I don't want to over think but need to have a plan like I do in my job. I filled up 4 more trash bags from my bedroom tossed clothe, sheets and blankets that were gross, they're not worth the time and energy to launder. I also, made my bed with new sheets, a cushy mattress topper, and a new pillow which I bought a few months ago. I had just been sleeping on top of a quilt with just a blanket. Today I worked in a focused way and took a few breaks and I am very happy with what I accomplished. Also took Sammy to the dog park, got groceries and cleared trash out of my car. Going to watch a video and have a good supper, then to bed early. I'm going to church tomorrow but plan to do some more home stuff in the afternoon. I will report tomorrow.

I so wish you the very best. My first thought was I wish I could help you. Second thought: Do you have trusted friends that would be willing to help you?
I have two dogs and they are the love of my life. My concern is whether or not the inspectors would feel the need to call animal control or something because they feel the dog may be in a bad situation. I KNOW you are caring for your sweet baby but they may not know that.
If it was me I would focus on making a space for your dog and making sure your sweet one looks great and is current on vaccinations and then do what you can.
I'm proud of you and what you have accomplished! You can do this. Maybe this call was a blessing in disguise. You are not alone. I could easily have inspectors called to my place. I feel for you more than you know.
