I didn't know where to post this, doesn't seem like it decerves a topic of it's own, but I accidentally found a interesting way to fold a t-shirt: I even tried it and it works! The minus that I see: It might work just for short sleaved or sleavless shirts? If so it feels silly to have many different ways to fold many different types of clothing. While it looks impressive I propably will stick to my own method because it works for me and I don't have to take time to smooth the shirt I'm folding onto any surface, I can do my method easily without and they look neat enough. Other neat trick I found a while ago was to use drawers to sort of vertically file your shirts into, you can then see with one glace what you got and the organization is easier to keep up than if you fill the drawer in traditional way (horizontal piles). I don't use drawers to clothing storage so can't test that myself, but apparently you can even fit more in same space with filing method. www.darkroomanddearly.com/2012/03/diy-organized-t-shirt-drawers.html

Hi all I'm in maintenance with laundry but it aint always been like that-no way I threw out a ton of clothes. I have 5 kids 4 teenage sons and little 3 year old daughter(6 including childhubby) I tried all the usual get the kids to do their own laundry but the machine would be clogged up with one teenager washing two t shirts while there was a queue etc etc. So..... I tackled mount wash me a bit at a time. I concentrated on that wash only. I hung it up instead of putting it in the dryer, this way I had to handle each item and could see if there was any tears or damage-if so out it went. Same with things that didn't fit-out they went. A bit arse to elbow washing things then throwing them out but that way I could see if something was permanently stained. I threw out all the socks-pairing a million socks was no fun so bought packs of exactly the same socks in plain black and plain white, all teenagers and hubs wears the same adult size so lucky! Pairing is easy now as every sock is the same, so has a mate! I bought four laundry bags for the teenage boys(not baskets) Like huge fabric shopping bags that can be folded and put in a drawer in the kitchen. I kept washing, line drying and tossing. kept items were folded into the laundry bags of the owners-I lined them up at the bottom of the stairs. Every time someone passed the bags to go upstairs they would have to take up their bag and put their clean clothes in their drawers and bring it back down empty for the refil. I kept doing this for a few weeks and the washing mountain has gone. I do a laundry call in the morning and everyone has to bring down any dirty clothes-I do a check now as before I would ask, "Any washing?" I got No, no no no and would not check but there would be stuff under beds, lying on the floor etc etc. so now they call me (fondly) the gestapoess! I do the same for dirty dishes, rubbish and clothes. I am not tackling upstairs at the moment as down stairs is curently being done and is almost in maintenance, but if I make sure there is no dirty plates, rubbish or washing, it won't get any worse upstairs until I'm ready for phase 2! I've managed to keep my kitchen and laundry in maintenance for approx 4 weeks now but not getting too complacent as I know only too well how easy it is to slip back. I have hopefully established the routine of including my washing in my daily chores. For 4 weeks I've had an empty washing basket with everything folded and put away by the time everyone is in bed, I'm always last in bed. I have to keep on at the teenagers to empty their bags and bring them back down for refil but it's worth it. I'd like to keep posting here as as I said it's so easy to slip. Especially having 7 people in the house, one missed day and the mountain could creep back although throwing out a ton of clothes makes it not so easy for it to rear it's ugly head. I tend to waffle on Hugs xxxxxxxxx

I had a few shirts on the line and luckily bought them in before going to work, it poured down in the evening. So I put the clothes on the clothes horse to dry in the dining room and just folded them this morning. I have couple of days worth to put away today and the pile size is a small machine load. ( I hand wash clothes) for those who don't already know. So again I am in maintience and okay with that.

i cant do the stairs anymore to do my laundry and i luckily found a portable washing machine, but i need to wash every day or so to keep up with clean clothes. i have very few clothes so that is not a problem but washing them often enough means i should do them maybe every second day. i have about 4 shirts. the loads are small which i like. i can do my sons special shirts togethere and without any thing else . what i wantto do is kind of approach it like a dishwasher. every second day i will hook up the washer after the evening meal and dishes are done. this means that at least one sink has to be clear. this will tie in with my doing the dishes daily.

Great ideas serendipity
Woohoo for portable washing machine. I'm the same as you, I don't have too many clothes.
I often wonder, if the women who had the same struggles as us in years gone passed, coped with their chores?
Did they have the same struggles as us? Maybe before washing machines and dish washers, standards were a little lower, maybe wearing clothing 2 or 3 times before they were washed? Only having a few dishes to be washed that kind of thing-interesting isn't it. Think I'll be adding washing machine and dish washer to the gratitude list-I really couldn't do without mine!

This weekend, between the water at DD's bday party and overnight guests I had two loads of towels, both have made it through and put away since then, I did my daily goal changeover, but need to get some extra done today, as the kids are going camping with my dad this weekend.

I'm pretty good about helping the kids put their laundry away, because it's too frustrating to get them ready for school or camp when I can't find their clothes, but then I burn out before putting *mine* away, and I just live out of the clean laundry basket for weeks at a time. So far no one at work has mentioned the wrinkles. But I will force myself to put my clothes away today!

I did touch some laundry yesterday. Didn't have mountains and loads of clothes though so not too much to deal with. And of course I dropped from exhaustion from the lack of sleep this week and slept 11 hours last night .... from 4 pm to 3 am today (alarm goes off for work then.) Yesterday's laundry TA DA'sFold & put away clean set sheets & comforter belonging to #1 daughter Washed & dried load of coats Washed & dried sheets So today I need to access what clothes need to be washed and put away those non-clothing loads which should take roughly 5 minutes.

Wow! People are making real progress here! WTG!
My washing machine has been in place for a couple of days. I have an enormous back-load of laundry to catch up on. Yesterday I started a very full load of light colored items, they have been dried and mostly put away. Today I did a load of random dark items. They are in the dryer now. I just started another load of DH's jeans and some other odds and ends, mostly dark.
I'm heading back to deal with the remainder of yesterday's load and the first load from today.
I still have several loads more loads to run, but will do them a load of two a day.
