I bought a pair of boots. I was in NYC for work and I was wearing a pair of classic black pumps to wear with my suit. the shoes had "I love comfort" on the inside. they were padded and a comfortable and wide heel.
They were the most uncomfortable and hard to walk in shoes that I have ever owned!! I might return them. I was walking down 7th ave like I was drunk. I could not take normal steps and I kept falling into the buildings. People were looking at me funny. It was all I could do to take a step. I thought I would run into a store and grab cheap sneakers or flats. THere was a DSW in sight so I stumbled in.
I have wide calves so it is hard for me to find boots. I found a nice pair of flat boots that go to right below the knee and they fit nicely. I am not crazy about the piece of silver chain but others say it looks good. they were also below the price point I had wanted to spend.
I needed a pair of boots as I like to wear boots and tights in the winter. so I got that item off my list and I was able to walk to Penn Station to get my train without falling!! I do not have an old pair of boots to get rid of - but the shoes are headed out the door!

Well done ohblondie on getting boots that fit. Are the ill-fitting shoes gone? _______________ I have been quite acquisitive lately. Mostly clothes, a book, and some yarn. Clothes (all either from thrifts or free): An organic cotton long night-shirt Fleece lined Uggs slippers Brown corduroy pants Tweedy brown wool sweater Cream/off-white winter coat (a friend of my mom's was in line behind me and she offered me her 30% senior discount so I got it for $7, woo hoo) Bulky knit tweedy cream colored scarf (was in the craft section, all but a few rows finished so I got it for super cheap) Sage green fleece pullover (for barn wear) Navy blue turtleneck (for barn wear) Plaid forest green jacket, with blue and gold threads Matching forest green heeled suede shoes (with these two items I look slightly like I was meant to be an extra on either "Call The Midwife" or "The Bletchley Circle".) A green shawl type sweater. I don't know the name for this type of garment, not a poncho...a long rectangle with a slit up the middle halfway, then the pieces go over your shoulders. Book: "The Casual Vacancy" J.K. Rowling Craft stuff: 3 spools clear nylon thread (This is a lifetimes worth of thread, it makes the very best carry-along thread for sock heels and toes. Also, dyeable with the same dyes as wool/mohair). 2 cone yarns, a green and a brown (I use these for spinning projects) 3 little spools of vintage novelty yarn, again, used for spinning or for knitting trim 3 skeins dark brown wool DK yarn I passed up some aqua rayon crochet thread though I was sorely tempted. Rayon has a shine to it that cotton crochet thread does not. I think I'd better put a stop to my zoning out thrift store wandering. It is a two week old habit and needs to be nipped in the bud.

I have been wearing the boots 2-3 times a week. They are so comfy! Shoes are in a bag in the car. My black heels wore out.... the patent leather was peeling and the plastic taps on the heels fell off. Very dangerous as it made the heels slippery. Found a nice pair on clearance and tossed the bad ones.
Trying to get more out before any more comes in.

Good job ohblondie. It works out when we actually use and enjoy our acquisitions.

Two purchases today, which pretty much wipes out my pocket money for the month already. First, a new pair of sunglasses that look GREAT on me! I usually look terrible in most frame styles, but these are kinda 1940s-ish and very flattering. Plus the frames are a beautiful honey blonde color similar to my hair. I am very pleased. Second, a set of 3 notebooks for my Italian project, which is a meditation written in Italian on the subject of Flaubert's masterpiece, the French novel Madame Bovary. I hunted through five stores and hundreds of notebook/journals until I found this trio, which I think would please Emma Bovary immensely. The pattern on the left stands for Emma's humdrum bourgeois life... the right pattern for the flowering of her sexual passion... and the middle pattern of tears for her tragic end. The Italian meditation on Madame Bovary (titled Cercando Emma / Searching for Emma) was written by the great Dacia Maraini, who wears eyeshadow in these shades of blue as her trademark. So you see, it simply had to be these notebooks... no other would do.

i have to pipe in on the acquisitions, although i don't WANT to. need to get back to getting honest about the acquisitions.
free stuff: one dark green mohair sweater, turtleneck, in great condition; looks handknit. if it scratches around the neck i will either cut off that part or get rid. a piece of magenta organza ribbon a really amazingly painted realistic watercolor painting on heavy paper - interesting subject; a bookshelf with a window to another room and part of a painting. the titles of the books are what got me - already a friend has said if i don't keep it, he wants it.
bought stuff: i went on etsy - i KNOW better. there was a listing for 4 pieces of Phillip Jacobs fabric, and i also bought a yard of Alexander Henry sugar skulls fabric. a storage thingy with 3 wire shelves, wheels, and is covered by blue nylon and zips up - has 3 drawers. hoping it can be for clothing but not sure how much weight the drawers can hold - 5 bucks only a mosaic book for beginners (thinking for art in the schools eventually if i get some older kids than kindergarten)
now, what is going to go OUT?

I thought I was doing better, but that was last month when my money ran out. Yesterday: 80 pieces of paper (copies of old deeds) that will eventually go to the historical society archives; 3 books from the 70's published by a neighboring county historical society (to be gleaned for newsletter ideas and then passed on to the archives) 1 economic history of the US in the late 1800 and early 1900's (research material for the book) and a Justin Wilson Cajun cookbook. DH, dd and I used to watch Justin Wilson on PBS every Saturday and since dd shares her love of hot pepper with her daddy, I thought she would like this, plus the memories. The cookbook will go out of the house tomorrow, the other stuff, hopefully soon.

Went to a yard sale today. Got 4 very heavy stainless steel pans with lids, a bread knife, a utility knife, a stainless steel scoop, 2 stainless steel spoons, a expensive leaf cookie cutter, 5 cookbooks, a 4 drawer unit and a very nice leatherette covered box that I have wanted for years for $20.00. Part of this will be given to Fence Guy, part to dd and part to the shed/room/cabin I'm working on at the farm. Very little will stay in the house.

Went on a research trip and came home with 70+ pieces of paper to process. While there I checked out an antique store and BOUGHT NOTHING!!! Then I went to a thrift store and bought a handbag with really nice leather handles for $1.50. The handbag will go in the trash, I really bought the bag for the handles.

Acquisition accountability: The clothing I've gotten for fall is working out very well. I have basically two outfits of matching corduroy pants, sweaters, belts, coats, and shoes. One set is cream colored, the other is rusty brown. I do also have a clothing set in dark green and black that I haven't been wearing as much but still like and will probably wear more during the holidays or into January. I wore the cream colored set the whole time I away last weekend. It all worked very well. Several layers that could mix and match or removed according to the weather. I had forgot to report that I machine washed the wool coat I got at Value Village for $7. I know how to wash wool. I sure wasn't going to spend $$'s on dry cleaning. A couple of wash cycles, a couple of rinse cycles until the water ran clear (it was REALLY dirty), hung up straight to dry. It worked out great. I haven't worn the new-to-me green heeled shoes but I have worn the matching plaid jacket. I could have done without buying either. I haven't worn the blue and green plaid jacket yet either. It's dressier, office type clothing so I haven't had the occasion. I have worn the gold colored poncho type sweater to church. I thought it looked nice with my outfit but I didn't get any compliments. I haven't worn the green one yet but will plan to this week. I really like it and it's plenty warm for going to town. I haven't worn the nice, low Clark's boots I found at the local thrift, nor have I worn the full length boots. I have a lot of really nice clothes but really no occasions to wear any of them. I don't really care to dress up at all when I do my town days. I usually go the food bank and the women's homeless shelter and I don't want to stand out too much. I'm glad I've gotten new-to-me barn clothes. The 2 pullover fleece tops are warm and very comfortable for outside work and are easy care. _____________ Acquisitions this week: Pack of new underwear Shoe weatherizing spray Box of hair color (cheap, and I'm not entirely sure I will use it, but I thought it would be nice to look a little better for the holidays). Fabric at a local fabric store, on sale Skeins of vintage Aunt Lydia's Rug yarn. I covet this stuff and buy it when I see it. It's thick cotton or rayon yarn in great vintage colors. I love the stuff. There is nothing like it on the market currently. Embroidery floss 2 jar candles on really good sale. They were already half off the regular price then there was a coupon for 1/2 off a second candle when you buy one. Sale items were NOT excluded, hooray. I have one burning now called "Fall Festival". It's a spicy, cinnamon-y scent and very cheerful. I love jar candles, they last a long time, and seem safer to me. Warm red cowl neck pullover top. This is a trade out for my red ribbed turtleneck that I downgraded to barn wear. I like wearing red in December and have all the matching accessories for a nice outfit with a red top. This one has two seams down the front and a slightly flared shape which is much more flattering than the turtleneck I downgraded. _________________ I've got to go cold turkey on the craft supply acquisitions again. I've made a habit of going to the thrift stores when I go into town. It's a way to both amuse myself and to numb out. I need to do my business and go straight home. _________________ I hadn't reported these acquisitions because I was ashamed but here it is. I acquired two free chickens from Craigslist a couple of months ago, a Blue Orpington rooster and Blue Orpington hen. I love them both. The lady that owned them had bought them for $17 each when they were day old chicks. They are a rare show breed. The rooster is huge, I've never seen such a big boy. I bought 2 more parakeets from Craigslist to replace the 2 that I had that died this year. They came with a cage too. It cost $20. I will release the cage for maybe $10 on Craigslist. I already reported that I bought the angora buck rabbit. I got a fantastic pen for him last week but I think I had already reported that. I will talk a bit more about the whole critter thing on my blog.
